  1. I know that some have complained about the fact that we had more earlier commitments last year with Coach Dodge. My sense is that the entire staff is being very selective about every offer that they are putting out there. While this may put a bit of a damper on our boring off season, I do think it will payoff with this next class. I also think that part of the delay is that they are focusing on linemen and the best of those typically take longer to get on the dotted line.
  2. I am not trying to jinx Giovanni but after watching him play, I don't see him getting injured. He's too damn tough! I would hope that the coaches are able to convey to him the importance of not putting his shoulder down so darn much though. He reminds me a lot of Scott Hall from a toughness perspective. I think that if at all possible you redshirt Riley for the future.

  4. I can't tell you the exact date but historically it is like Aug 8th or 9th.
  5. My post was not meant to be an incrimination of the Exas, rather a starting point for some creative ideas on how we could promote the Rice game in Houston with the many alums we have there. With print media advertising rates dropping it would seem like a good chance to get the word out in Houston. It needs to be done farily soon though so we can get people to put it on the calendar. Speaking of which, when is the last time we had a game in Houston? It seems like it has been a real long time to me.
  6. Could we create a mailing list or put an ad in the paper? There were a bunch of students from Houston when I was in schoolat unt in thr dark ages surely there still is. I know there are a ton of alums there.
  7. Could it be that draylen ross shows up at 6-3 300 and the protypical defensive tackle we need so desparately. And could it be that Joe Miller adds another 15 pounds of muscle and finishes off his career as a unanimous all sbc selection. And could it be that finally Ike thomas is healthy and plays at the level we all know he is capable of? And could it be that Lonzie Horton plays as the top national prospect he was when SECteams were recruiting him? Its questions like this that make this season so interesting to many of us.

  9. McK - I appreciate your reports, but isn't pathetic a little strong word to use on a high school player in an all star game? Tone it down a little there chief.
  10. Couple of thoughts. I think Dooley is the real deal as a coach. He is similar to Dodge in that he is destined for greater things IF he can get things rolling at Tech. Tech does typically recruit a higher caliber of athlete than does our Louisiana Sun Belt bretheren, althogh that is more of a percpetion issue than anything else. The biggest issue they have to overcome is Ruston. Ruston is like El Paso, its not where kids typically want to spend 4-5 years of their life.
  11. To echo Gangreen signing quality players from DISD is a major coup for TD! That has long been a bone of contention of a lot of people and this staff is doing a great job in what should be a stronghold for us.

  13. I am real interested in Williams. He could really be something special from the reports I have received. God knows we need help at that position.
  14. Welcome home CMJ! Love to share a brew with a great fan like you.
  15. This is good news. That's a pretty solid signal and I like the fact we have some consistency going with them.
  16. We gotta a helluva young QB in Vizza and another one waiting in the wings (Riley). We have a solid RB in Micah Moseley and in my opinion an electric one in Dunbar coming on board. We have the most talented stable of receivers I have ever seen here. We have an offensive line that is more experienced and deeper although surely not deep enough. We have one defensive tackle that has proven he can play fairly consistently but needs to put on size (Joe Miller). That's it folks and that aint enough. We have two talented defensive ends that are streaky (Gilmore) and unproven at this level (Horton). Very thin and unproven behind them. We have one proven linebacker Craig Robertson that is a stud. Penson and Davis are waiting in the wings but not the proven group of the past couple of years. We have a ton of young talented athletes that are fighting for the 4 DB spots of which probably 3 are wide open. Should be the best battle of two a days. We have an amazing punter and a juco kicker that looks like the real deal. We have a brilliant offensive mind and a very respected defensive mind in the coaching spots. We have a pretty good amount of redshirt types that showed some promise in the Spring at all positions. Should be a damn interesting season! Thoughts?

  20. I think that's a very fair assessment SSJ. My only concern is that they have not done well in terms of recruiting the defensive line and they knew that was an area that needed improvement. I think they have addressed the other areas pretty well. This program had gotten fairly "light" from a size and weight perspective in Dickey's last couple of years. I hope that in 2009 Dodge will spend at least half of his schollies on down linemen (offensive and defensive).
  21. Fouts with a full house is not that bad a venue - if you have a good seat. The endzone seats stink!
