  1. Congrats to Wren. Definitely left UNT in a better place than he found it.

  2. Can we table the coaching change talks for just a little bit? We're playing for the conference title in 4 days. We've hit the same talking points AD NAUSEAM and we all know where each other stands. It's time to set that to the side for now and start thinking about how insane that we're even in this position. This is a HUGE game for the program to go out of CUSA on top and I'd rather be getting pumped up for that rather than debate the same tired points. See y'all in San Antonio! GO MEAN GREEN! BEAT nUTSAck!

  4. He may not deserve "Player of the Game"/MVP, but his play on that last punt (both in handling the ball and getting off a good punt) may have saved the game.

  5. Yeah Wren, give him what he deserves. The chance to coach for his job for the next two games.

  6. Dude who cares. It’s got to be exhausting to always find a reason to be unhappy with the team. Enjoy your night, brother.

  8. The scoop on this was that he was happy here but was offered the WVU job. UNT countered to entice him to stay but then WVU backed up the truck with a large raise. My read is that to get his dream job at Ok State he needs to have some P5 experience and this is that at a high level. The candidates we draw in from the upcoming national search are going to be great, they were awesome last round and this time we are in a much better position.

  9. UNT hired Todd Dodge on Dodge on December 12, 2006. Alabama hired Nick Saban on January 4, 2007. Why didn't we just hire Saban instead???

  10. What a bummer for us. Baker was an incredibly kind and caring individual who really wanted to see the students grow and be better people, not just athletes. @meanJewGreen and I went to the women's soccer NCAA tourney at UT a few years back, and Wren, out of the probably 500 UNT fans there and not knowing either of us, spent 30+ minutes just sitting with us and chatting about the athletic programs, the direction of the school, his own life, etc. Great person, great leader, great AD. He'll be missed for sure. Also, I guess I have to change my signature now...

  13. This is terrible news. Wren was the best AD we ever had. This is the worst possible news and timing we could have.

  14. If any of yall think Wren would be fired if we don't win in the AAC next year or even 3 years in then i have some ocean front property in Arizona to sell you... Wren has got us into the AAC, hired an unbelievable basketball coach, hired a great softball coach, got an indoor practice facility built, a golf facility built, not to mention overseen a great athletic program (outside of football) and even that, based on history has been one of our best football funs in our history. Wren aint getting fired anytime soon.. PERIOD!

  16. It is kind of shitty that heading into a championship game, the majority of threads on this forum are about firing the coach.

  17. Wren leaving is a loss for UNT. Best of luck to him and his family as the move on to their next chapter. The silver lining of Wren leaving is that he was rewarded with a P5 offer based on his body of work here. This development helps frame UNT as a career-builder rather than a career-ender for motivated athletic directors. This factor paired with the facilities we have in place should help improve the candidate pool. Cheers to hoping that Smatresk & Co. will hire an experienced AD who will elevate UNT to the top of the American Athletic Conference.

  18. This. 100%. My time on GMG has dropped 60% - 70% because of the Chicken Littles on this board. We're in the CUSA championship game for the 2nd time ever and 90% of this board if they're being honest didn't have this team with a winning record at the beginning of the year. 4-8, 3-9, 5-7 if we're lucky, etc. But instead of enjoying a surprisingly good season, I feel like I'm taking a time warp to the Todd Dodge days, McCarney with Andrew McNulty, etc. I stayed on the board and commented back then cuz bitching was clearly deserved. And I'm not saying constructive criticism isn't warranted here, but dangit, we have got to be the bitchiest fan base that made it to their respective conference championship game if I had to take a guess. Been a season ticket holder for 20+ years and I'll take a season like this over the many other seasons I've had to put up with over the years.

  19. I'll chime in on this. I don't care about down votes. They don't deter me from posting what I think, and I don't think they should go away. But, I do respect when someone posts their counter point and tells me they gave me a down vote.

  24. 0 marketing. 0 before or after game marketing strategies as done in the past. Terrible game day atmosphere/setup. Terrible logistics 0 communication from the AD when the fanbase is clearly in a frenzy or close to one. My guess is that he's been putting his ear to the pavement for sometime. And, he clearly has.

  25. as I was telling the wife last night.........The weather was nasty. I know it didn't rain heavily throughout the game but there was certainly drizzle most of the time. I remember a game way back when our fourth team walk on running back from Sanger went off for like 150 plus in the rain. The weather was for sure a factor in this game. Ask the Rice deep snapper....Those missed field goals looked like the ball skipped back to the holder. In short, with weather like that, you have to be happy to walk out with win, regardless of the uglyness.

  26. Did you look back at all those replies to your previous two threads - your only content - and think, "Yep. I've won them over. Time for this third post"

  27. I think it was Rodriguez. If he doesn’t make that one handed catch on a bad snap, Rice has the ball deep in our territory or takes it in for a score. He saved this game.

  29. Wren did a lot of good for UNT. I also understand people's immediate fear that Wren will try and poach McCasland. While Wren would probably love to have him, make no mistake about it, McCasland is here because of Mosley. Mosley identified him for Wren...just as he had done at ACU when they hired McCasland. They had/have a very solid relationship, even with McCasland leaving Abilene without ever coaching a game. Mosley followed that departure up by identifying another young up and coming coach in Joe Golding. All he did was lead ACU to an NCAAT win over Texas before taking the UTEP job. Mosley also hit a home run in hiring Chris Thomsen while at ACU, who led the Wildcats to 6 straight NCAA D2 Playoff appearances which were the only 6 years they ever made the D2 playoffs. Mosley has an eye for coaches.

  32. I am seeing less and less fans at the games, even the season ticket holders are not showing (tell by the green chairs). The two people in front who were also at games have not been coming the four seats next to them said after the SMUT game he would not be back and he hasn't. My friends who have been season ticket holders for years hardly come to any games and usually leave early. they are not SL fans. We don't have great attendance to begin with. I am always so disappointed when I get to the game and the crowd is small. Yeah I think some won't be back as long as SL is here. So yeah I am saying we will lose fans.

  36. I think the reason the UNT base is freaking out so much is because whenever people have left UNT before, it's been due to extreme negativity or poor performance on or off the field. This time is different, UNT is a much better place than when Wren found it and I think we're all just not really used to that. Honestly, this is a great day to be proud of UNT and what it has become

  40. This is true, but this seems to be the way conferences are going to determine the teams for the championship games. Divisions are going away. We really didn’t backdoor in any more than Washington in the PAC 12 or KSt. in the Big 12.

The place had energy. Attendance was increasing. There was excitement. Recruiting was decent. That night the bubble did burst, imo.
