  1. Boy is he going to feel foolish next year when UNT wins the NCAA tournament.

  2. I don’t recall the City of Denton ever making such a single vibrant commitment to support North Texas more than this. And hats off to Ryan Peck and all involved for nailing the color spot on. Absolutely bad ass! Rick

  3. It was a great turnout. I'm guessing 500-600. Anyway....the area that it was in....was jam packed. Abou and Tylor were both there. Tylor, Kai, Rubin and Aaron all spoke. There was no surprise "I'm staying" comment from Tylor....but he and Abou both got nice rounds of applause. The women's golf team was there...and they're awesome. So is Coach Akers. And one final thing............WAIT TIL YOU GET A LOAD OF THE MEAN GREEN FIRE TRUCK. Coolest thing I've seen in years. Someone will post photos I'm sure.

  5. We have a new Green Brigade director, Amy Woody, who has just finished her DMA coursework at UNT. She looks to have fine credentials including a Master's from Eastman, one of the nation's leading music schools and was previously the director at Denton Guyer before entering UNT. Welcome, Ms. Woody! https://greenbrigade.music.unt.edu/green-brigade-director-announcement?fbclid=IwAR1ec3iSm-rS9X2aB6fjG9IC8JWrKFJ_q5pW5c4JvmPvA_RJP0teUudDT4Q

  7. We can thank Mayor Hudspeth and Councilman Jesse Davis (a former Student Body President) in particular.

  8. Not gonna lie, the city rarely makes supportive moves like this. This has potential.

  9. Looks like a great pickup! As an aside, I hope whoever wrote this article/press release is retained by the AD to continue writing these types of pieces because this piece in particular: Tells you what you need to know about Buggs in a concise and compelling way Capitalizes on the recent success of the program by letting people know we're winning Has a direct plug to ticket sales at the end of the piece Thank you!

  10. I think you will notice that most of the disdain is towards players like Gumms that haven’t conducted this on a completely honest basis. Goes on a NT podcast and says he is staying only to enter the portal a week or two later, commits to Arkansas after shopping himself around and then bails on them. Be a man of your word and learn how to conduct yourself instead of being wishy-washy.

  12. That is by far the coolest fire truck I have ever seen.

  13. No it is not my ideal as I would prefer giving to NIL but I decided that giving a little today was important. The reason? I feel like we have a LOT of big donors who are looking at the normal fans and wanting to see us hive before they decide to write big checks. I imagine a lot of them would be willing to match donations if they saw we cared and were willing to step up and give. Even in bad times.

  14. Let's please play a wider variety of music. The past director seemed to play 3 or 4 songs in the stands max.

  15. Folks, DFD Station #3 on McCormick Street near campus has been referred to as “THE NUT HOUSE” and has had a squirrel on their T shirts and logos since I was in high school 38 years ago,…..long before the University of Texas created the Albino Squirrel Society, and way before some of our uneducated leadership of the past chose to start copying them with their own ASS association. The squirrel in that sticker on the truck is white simply because the background of the sticker is white and it’s cheaper to have the fewest colors when ordering graphic logos. If you haven’t seen the truck yet you should go by and see it. Coolest thing I’ve see since the Model A got restored. Rick

  16. I don't think that's the UNT albino squirrel. Mayor Hudspeth let us know that that particular firehouse is known as "The Nut House." I think that's their own personal logo for their firehouse.

  20. So much pride seeing this fire truck. I have seen the professional ones in Frisco at the Star for the Cowboys and FC Dallas. Dang sweet. That Denton pride for our their University makes me think there is a marketing plan to be had: Denton County Pride. Make it a competition give the participating businesses and organizations small blocks of wing tickets to distribute at their desire. When we win the community is going to seek out those tickets. Inexpensive entertainment for local families. GMG

  21. Originally from Keller, had offers from Buffalo, Incarnate Word, and a few D2 schools. Based on his size, I imagine he will be used a lot in coverage. 44 tackles over 9 games last year. Honorable mention all conference LB. 6'1 210 pounds https://www.buccaneersports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/garnett_chakka_-cj-_kcv6

  23. Out of all the potential destinations he was going to go to I'm glad that he picked Kansas State. They really came on late this year and he stands the best chance of advancing far into the tournament next year with this team.

  30. It was the best and most natural fit. Tech is rebuilding, Ole Miss & Florida are just ehh. At K State, they have their foundation built and there’s familiarity there. Tylor is smart and I’m glad he weighed his options for as long as he did.

  33. I guess it depends on how you look at it. Many here have envied the Arkansas State’s and Boise State’s of the world as being stair steps for successful head coaches, what if we could be that for both players and coaches? If we could win the AAC every year while still having the retention of a JUCO, would that be acceptable to most? It would be acceptable to me. My loyalty is to the program, not the player.

  35. UNT comes up with a day of giving that gives people a chance to come in at whatever level they feel comfortable coming in at and it meets hostility here? I just don't get it. This campaign is a good thing for the university. It's been done at other universities around the country too. Athletics even came up with some unique ways to bring in this year's accomplishments, honor Mean Joe, etc. All these things help people learn about this program and gives them an opportunity to dip their toes in the water. Once people are in, even at $9.40, they become new leads who the department can cultivate and hopefully bring on board at higher levels. That doesn't even mention they found some donors (AD, head coaches, anonymous) to commit to matching some of these gifts. $'s in are good for this program no matter how they come in.

  36. Gone: Shorter, Nixon, Jackson, Gunnell, Johnson, Gumms, Robertson, Lyles, Gaddie, Neville, Landis, Roberts, LeBlanc and Alberding Of those above, Shorter, Nixon, Gumms, Robertson, Gaddie, Roberts and Alberding were starters. Shorter, Gumms, Robertson and Roberts were all-conference level, maybe Gaddie. Honestly, the ones that hurt the most, IMHO, are Robertson, Gaddie, Alberding and Nixon, in that order. The remainder rarely, if ever, saw the field and one was a walk-on. Arrived: Rauschenberg, Cleveland, Miner, Hill, Moore, Vaipulu, Rogers and Yougblood. I expect all to contribute, many to start and all to be on the two-deep. We still have spots to fill. The sky isn't falling.

  37. Honestly, I’m not sure how much the Morris offense is going to be like the Leach Air Raid, but part of the beauty of the Leach Air Raid is that it tends to put up huge passing stats no matter who the receivers are. I’m not that worried about losing Shorter. I expect the passing game to get their stats and score points either way.
