  1. Per multiple sources. I am hearing lil Barnett is getting bad info

  4. yeah, regardless of how you feel about him, having Mack on board with UNT can only be considered a W for the university, since his last interactions with UNT, he has become a brand, and based on his betting, he has more money to blow. I view this as a positive, and would assume his influence is tied to the dollars he spends.

  5. Mattress Mack can go stuff a mattress! He has done nothing for NT since holding it hostage and requiring the practice fields be named for his likewise crony friend DD.

  6. If you guys hated dealing with the BMDs and Lovelaces when it came to Littrell, you are in for a f’ing nightmare if they center this hire around Mack’s approval.

  7. More like Smatress Mac if we make this hire, amirite?

  8. 1. Fuente 2. Riley 3-9. Some other guys 10. Gillespie 11-100. Some other guys 101. Keeler 102. Perry

  9. Mattress Mac spent the last 15 years shitting on NT, and using his money to support cougar high, and NOW we are supposed to believe he gives a shit about NT and has our best interest in mind?

  10. I mean can you recall a worse hire going in? I know the results after the fact were bad for Dodge and Mac but at the time they seemed like noteworthy hires that got positive press. Seth got tons of buzz dialing up plays while UNC was competing for the ACC title. Now, we grab the running backs coach off of a team that had the same regular season record as us? Not even a real coordinator? Come on. This is awful.

  11. I cannot agree with this more. If NT hires ANY coach just to woo a booster (especially a fickle one like Mac), it’s incredibly short-sighted & reeks of desperation… which I don’t think we are. It can’t be Keeler or Perry. Any of those other names will work as long as the right assistants are hired as well. Dont blow this Neal & Jared!

  12. Y'all, How the hell do we go from Justin Fuente as the lead candidate, and almost a foregone conclusion to Kenny Perry? How does that even happen?

  13. Look embryo. We ALL learned from it. I remember first posts on message boards.

  14. Emmit Jones hiring would be a slap in the face of Patrick Cobbs. Kenny Perry is respected by HS coaches, but the schools where he coached were never outstanding, nor were the colleges up until TX Tech, and the jury is still out on McGuirre and Tech. Very underwhelming hire if he is the one selected.

  15. Plot twist... Maybe he was never on the actual list.

  16. “On 3rd and inches, does your QB generally go under center…..or do that stupid f%€#ing $hit where he’s five yards back in the shotgun, hands off and expects the runningback to make up that five yards plus, despite it not working the previous several times?” Rick

  17. This whole list - other than Fuente - give me the underfunded vibe. This is an absolutely awful list.

  18. Man this is an underwhelming list. Outside of Fuente and Riley, I’ve got zero interest in the others.

  19. Hey bud, I'll be as constructive as I can about this. There are tons of high-level production sources out there. You need to get used to the idea that the next generation of coverage is going to involve a ton of amateur/grass roots level efforts. Podcasts. YouTubers. Blogs. Guys that are perfectly fine in their sweats and entry-level microphones sharing a passion with an audience that is willing. As mean Green family, we need to encourage all of this. Formal news coverage. Grass roots coverage. Coverage in your sweats. Right coverage. Wrong coverage. We should welcome all of it. Don't be a jackass and shut people down just because it doesn't' fit your mold. You can say you don't like it, but to suggest they should quit is dumb. Especially Brune, who is doing a ton of good things.

  20. It is literally a bowl game. As much as any other. Are you mad cause it’s….. close? Cause you know a guy who wasn’t kicked off Fry St.? Most of us haven’t been tbh.

  21. I hope to God you are right, I’ve been walking around like this for an hour. I am sorry about my Fuente pushback, please, please, please don’t hire this Perry joker.

  22. The aforementioned donor has pledged 7 figures to UH men’s basketball just a month ago. Now after 15 years he cares about us again?

  23. I’d take Fuente over all of them. It’s a no brainer with that list, imo.

  24. Don't ever write him a letter, ever, or even a postcard. Just let him be.

  25. Live look at Littrell and I have to say I agree with him.

  26. Not Carthel? I've been told by multiple people he's Nick Saban 2.0. Surely a massive oversight by the AD 🙄

  27. Well for me, firing SL to hire a guy that has only been a position coach for the last decade isn't it. The only way I could rationalize it if its a young (ish)up-and-coming coach that could inject excitement (ex. Emmett Jones). If the standard has gone up and that's why we fired SL, then hiring Thomsen contradicts that.

  28. Glad to hear that. We don’t need a rush job, we need a good job.

  29. Seth Littrell’s past/credentials should not cause NT to exclude good candidates. Littrell never won a Broyles award either!

  30. I assumed bottom less failure for Dodge as soon as we found out he was bringing in a staff of HS coaches because "football is football." I clearly remember being at that press conference and looking at @Harry with sheer terror in my eyes. No matter who is hired, it won't be worse than that unless their staff is also unqualified.

  33. If I'm Riley and I just won the Broyles, why would I leave an OC spot on a team that's primed to win the Big12 for the foreseeable future to move laterally under a HC that is notorious for controlling everything offensive on his team? He'd basically be taking a backseat to a control freak when he has been acknowledged by peers & ex-coaches as the best assistant coach in the country. Makes no sense for him.

  34. My favorite of those listed is Justin Fuente. He might cost a few bucks more but I believe he's worth it. He's only 46 and would still have the energy to motivate the team. As an ex-quarterback maybe he could restore Gunnell to his old form. I don't remember who was on his coaching staff at Virginia Tech but hopefully most are gainfully employed and he will keep Cobbs and Clements and hire a couple of our exes as position coaches. The only other candidate on the revealed list that would move my needle very much is Riley. I could live with that.

  35. I’m sorry but the idea of hiring Kenny Perry gives me the RV poor little old underfunded UNT vibe.

  36. Mattress Mack better back that brinks truck up for us to hire some All star coordinators (ehm, bring Emmett Jones with you)

  37. Same story as with GCU again? Thats annoying. They need to stop scheduling those pseudo-neutral games immediately. If they canßt get good teams to Denton, then NT needs its away games to at least count as away games for its NET. GCU is a Q3 instead of a Q2 because it is counted as neutral, while it had all the disadvantages of being an away game. UMass on neutral ground is likely to end up as a Q3 game, and Q2 is the max if UMass goes on a roll afterward. As an away game it'd be certain at least Q2 and Q1 if UMass goes on a roll. That could really help UNT. The way it is UNT can pretty much only lose and has little to gain.

  38. Sorry to hear about Mike Leach. Nice guy. When I worked a short stint in sports radio we had an interesting 5 min conversation about rain. Prayers to him and his family 🙏

  40. Mattress Mac was in a recent interview and mentioned playing for the University of Texas, not North Texas. Yes, he is a wealthy donor. However, I think he doesn't give a crap about our school or who we hire. I will be really shocked if Fuente is not the guy. I have no inside information, this just seems to be my gut feeling.
