  2. To me, the thought of Yet Another SMU Game, in a different place, is not that exciting. The whole point of bowl games should be to play the teams you don't normally see.

  3. This being the day of remembrance coming out of WW 1, my family's participation in this "event" was my grandfather "Ira F. Lane" Corporal, Company H, 359th Infantry, the Texas/Oklahoma division "The Tough Ombres". He was inducted into service at Wolfe City. From "Wiki"........World War I The 359th Infantry Regiment was constituted for World War I at Camp Travis, Texas, on August 5, 1917, as a unit of the National Army. It was organized in September and assigned to the 180th Infantry Brigade, a unit of the 90th Division. After completing individual and collective training, the regiment served in France during the war, including duty in the Villers-en-Haye, Battle of Saint-Mihiel, duty in the Puvenelle Sector of Lorraine, and the Meuse–Argonne offensive. The regiment remained in Europe for post-war occupation duty following the Armistice of November 11, 1918 and was demobilized at Camp Bowie, Texas on June 24, 1919. When my grandfather was discharged (honorably) it was noted on his form "729 A.G.O" that he was "slightly wounded". My mother said that that "slight" wound was him being gassed. He never discussed his "war adventures" with his daughters. The ones who (as the Patton character said in the movie "Patton") "felt the sting of battle", rarely did. An excellent movie to watch today would be "The Best Years of Our Lives" It is being featured on TCM at 7PM tonight. Have a "reflective" day.

  5. Had no idea my thread about CUSA’s new media rights deal would turn into a dick measuring contest but I guess that’s internet message boards for you

  6. Well, it’s obvious the coaches read this thread and got some great coaching tips. The season turned around soon after this thread first appeared. GMG.

  9. I'm afraid of this, too. Biggest nightmare is Bahamas vs 6-6 MAC Sweetest dream is Armed Forces vs Air Force. The place would be packed.

  11. We're going to see which rushing attack reigns supreme in C-USA after this one (UAB's rushing attack ranks ahead of ours at #6 in FBS, while we're #14). NT is pretty banged-up. UAB playing at home where they're 4-1 on the season. I don't like how this one is lining up. UNT: 27 UAB: 33

  12. The decision to play or not play our backup QBs may be situational this year. We are making a run at a conference championship...this year. Aune is our starting QB and is our best option for winning this year and if many of the posters on GoMeanGreen are to be believed, isn't a very good QB. So, he stands to benefit and improve his skills too with more game experience, right? So, if he's our best chance and additional experience will make him better, then it makes sense that he stays in. Now, if we were out of the conference championship race, then sure, let's start building for next year.

  14. I didn't spend too much time on this, but of the teams currently sitting at 2 or fewer loses(UTSA 0, UNT 1, WKU 2, FAU 2 and Rice 2), I believe only UNT, UTSA and Rice control their own destinies. I haven't considered a scenario with a two or three loss UTSA and a bunch of 3 loss teams - too many permutations. Heck, I've probably messed up even the simple scenario below. UTSA (5-0) remaining games with LaTech, Rice and UTEP - win at least 1 of three finishing at 6-2, 7-1 or 8-0 (winning out). If UTSA loses 2 and one is Rice and Rice wins out then UTSA and Rice finish at 6-2 with Rice owning the tie break. Championship game at Rice. UNT (5-1) remaining games with UAB, Rice - Win both and finish at 7-1. Lose to UAB and beat Rice finishing at 6-2 owning tie break over any other team that could also finish 6-2. Beat UAB but lose to Rice and Rice wins other two games, then UNT and Rice both finish 6-2, but Rice owns the head-to-head tie breaker. Rice (3-2) remaining games with WKU, UTSA, UNT - Must win out finishing 6-2 eliminating 3 loss WKU and owning tiebreaker over UNT. WKU (4-2) remaining games with Rice, FAU - Must win out finishing 6-2 eliminating 3 loss Rice and 3 loss FAU. Needs help from both UAB and Rice dropping UNT to 5-3 as UNT would have the tie break over WKU if both are 6-2. FAU (3-2) remaining games against FIU, MTSU, WKU - Must win out finishing 6-2 eliminating 3 loss WKU and avoiding a third loss themselves. Needs help from both UAB and Rice dropping UNT to 5-3 as UNT would have tie break over FAU if both are 6-2.

  15. Normally, I’d agree with you. We’ve had guys out all year. Davis, Trieb, Addaway, Shorter, Brown, etc and have seen the next man up really take hold. I think this trend continues.

  16. We pull a closer game out, UNT and Vito pump up how we will have won 11 of our last 12 conference games, and the AD will sell alumni side tickets against Rice for $11.12. UNT 34 UAB 24

  17. I hope some of Blair, Shorter, Adeyi, Isaiah Johnson will be good to go, but I’m sort of expecting all of them to be held out Saturday. Winning this one without 3 of your 5 opening game OL starters, 3 of your 4 rotational backs, and your receiver who has 8 TDs would be very impressive.

  21. Beautiful area of the country. Enjoyed the people and scenery up there. Had the best seafood I've ever eaten in Oregon and at a little place just inside Washington at a town called South Bend. Talked to a server at Deschute's Brewery in Portland that was from Denton and went to Ryan HS. Small world. Prices are ridiculous. People seemed super friendly. I won't get into what I thought of the downtown areas of Portland and Seattle, but they are what they are now, and hopefully they will rebound, because both are very cool cities to visit, and good launching pads for exploring the natural beauty of those states.

  22. if we play SMUT again don't extend any contract until after the bowl game. See if we made any improvements or if we get bitch slapped again. If it is the later been nice knowing you and good luck.

  23. NT needs Rice to win against WKU, so we have some cushion for 2nd place. Yes, NT needs to take care of business and beat UAB. Totally agree as UTSA will beat La. Tech. I am predicting a Rice upset over WKU, despite this being a very tough road game for the Owls. Rice plays a man coverage scheme that WKU has not seen all year. Rice dares opponents to throw over their coverage and if you don't, makes you pay. Rice is big and physical on their defensive line and the weather forecast in Bowling Green is snow/rain/cold which plays into Rice's gameplan even more. I really think this could be a long day for WKU if they have to shift to a running game due to foul weather. The Rice defense is "Jekyll and Hyde" for sure, but Rice matches up with WKU like they did against Houston.

  34. I really don't understand this sentiment. It's shared by a lot of people here. Sorry I'm singling you out MGNation92, but it's definitely not just you. Any time a backup QB comes in outside of an injury to the starter, it's because the game is out of hand in a positive way. The playbook shrinks to simple run plays that kill clock. That's universal, not just here at UNT. There is never going to be a time when a backup comes in during mop-up duty and runs the normal playbook just winging the ball all over the field. That never happens. It's too risky. You don't want your backup in possibly throwing interceptions allowing the other team to get back into the game. So what good are you guys looking to get out of this? What kind of leg-up on next year will a backup get when he comes in and hands the ball off a bunch of times? I just don't get it.

  37. Besides from the recent spike in homelessness and crime, Portland and Seattle are awesome cities! I love how walkable and dense they are, and I wish cities in Texas would embrace public transit and urbanism the way those cities have

  38. Great part of the country. Nice people too. Underrated area out that way = eastern washington. Back in my undergrad days I went up there for a road game against Idaho that we played in Pullman at Wazzu. Stayed in Spokane. That drive from Spokane to Pullman was just gorgeous. Beautiful place.
