  2. Will be interesting to see where that line goes this week. And @Brett Vito this may be the biggest prediction of your career. We will be watching. You know what you need to do….

  3. Seth needs to win out to get extended. Conference championship and bowl game included.

  4. Well I wasn’t one of those individuals wishing ill on our team. I’m actually proud of this team and think they have a real shot at a championship. That being said Littrell’s track record suggest he loses both the title game, and the bowl game. Not my opinion, history supports that notion. Why people get up in arms when I say that is beyond me. I honestly want the best case scenario to play out where he wins out and is called to a P5 job. What I don’t want is for us to extend Seth 3 years and then end up floundering in our new conference. BTW if Seth is here next year I’ll still cheer him and the team on.

  5. "The win was UNT’s sixth, making the Mean Green bowl eligible for the sixth time in seven seasons under Littrell. The milestone is a significant one considering UNT has only played in 13 bowl games in its history." .............................................................. Another slight from Vito. Bowl games are aplenty now and almost half of FBS teams get one. NT played in a Seth Bowl in 2016 with only 5 wins and 2020 with only 4 wins! NT had 30 seasons in it's history with 6 or more wins but didn't get a Bowl invite because of fewer Bowls back before Vito's time. Some seasons included 8, 9, and 10 wins, yet no Bowl. So, to imply Seth is the gold standard of Bowl qualifying is not telling the full story, nor history. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_North_Texas_Mean_Green_football_seasons

  6. Underachieved to what standard? He’s been much better than the two coaches that preceded him. A better W/L record than anyone since Hayden Fry. Listen, I understand wanting a new coach just for the simplicity of trying something different. But to say Seth Littrell has underachieved at North Texas, of all places, is asinine.

  7. A coach can't recruit or hire assistant coaches with last year of his contract. You will have to give him at least a 2 year extension. He will either get an extension or be fired. I would imagine a new hire would want a 5-7 year deal.

  9. Man....Littrell is an enigma wrapped in a riddle, covered in snuff. I don't know why his teams play so poorly against OOC competition. UNLV is not THAT much better than what we're playing in CUSA, and he just gets absolutely destroyed by them. Same thing with our bowl game last year. Does he just really focus on conference games? Thing is, I really like Littrell. (Again, I don't understand this issue with "personality" makes no sense to me) Two things he's done in his tenure here that I think are exceptional. One: His players DO NOT QUIT. How many opportunities have they had to quit on him the past several years? There's something to be said about that....you know the last guy that had such a great personality and told wonderful stories and could just command a room? His players quit on him. Two: The other thing he has done is completely change this offense to fit the personnel on the field. What he did last season with all of our WR injuries, changing this offense into a rushing attack is one of the most impressive coaching moves I've ever seen....How many stubborn coaches wouldn't have done that. Which tells me LIttrell really is a smart coach, he's a creative coach, and he adapts well. That's actually really rare today. I think what we're seeing this season is the offense clicking the way he wanted it all along....now our passing game is coming on and with our OLine and run game, it's difficult to stop, which leads me to this 2021 CUSA run. Littrell is absolutely destroying most of this conference. (Can't wait to see what we do against UAB) The challenge I have in my little brain is can we take this point and time and say "NOW....we're going to get what we expect moving forward" Keep him....risky, replace him.....risky. Could his replacement be worse? Absolutely. Could his replacement get us to NY6 level? Absolutely. Could Littrell get us to NY6 level? Oof....I just don't know. History says no, but.... I've been on the replace Littrell wagon for 2-3 years now but the next 3 (hopefully 4) games are the biggest stretch of his career. I'm not convinced that Littrell is the guy to take us to the AAC, but damn, he's making his case late....the next few weeks will be telling. I did NOT expect him to do what he did to WKU. If he goes out and beats UAB like that and then beats UTSA in San Antonio, he will have done what he has never really done...those 3 games will probably be the most impressive wins he's had in all the seasons he's been here. You never do anything until you do something. Then it will be up to Wren to make that decision. I'm still not convinced, but Littrell is making it more difficult, let's just say that.

  11. If you read this article, it is painfully obvious that Brett reads this board. To recap: - North Texas is bowl eligible…that’s a real accomplishment for a program like lowly North Texas - SL lost bowl games because he magically drew the 1985 Bears in each one of them - Aune is unfairly compared to Mason Fine…and did I mention he’s thrown for a lot of yards and TD’s (with no mention of the INT’s)?

  17. WKU raised an eyebrow for me. Especially seeing what they did the next game winning by 50. (I know Charlotte isn't good but they still beat them by 50 a week after seeing their own conf championship dreams go bye bye) Then in what could've been a trap game...they took care of business and looked like a team that is clicking. We can argue about strength of the opponent and I get it....we were 21.5 point favorites and I thought that was crazy....then he goes out and treats them like a bad FCS team. None of this erases how consistently bad he's been in these situations in the past, but I would be dishonest if I didn't ask myself (did he turn a corner? Is this thing about to get cranking? Finally?) The trick is predicting what's next. History says (and 6+ years is a pretty good sample size) that he should get beat next week @UAB. Vegas says we should, UAB is talented, probably bigger and stronger (they have been the past few years) Littrell doesn't beat those teams. He hasn't. But what if he does? Then the game vs Rice will probably be meaningless (unless they win out but not likely given their schedule). Then we're in the CUSA Champ game, on the road against a better (on paper) team. History says not only should Littrell lose that game, he should get creamed. What what if he doesn't? Littrell is making my brain hurt right now because I don't know what to believe. I don't think I'm overrating the WKU game...given his history, he had no business beating them as bad as he did. I'm going to assume that if Littrell wins out....beats UTSA in the champ game, he has an extension offered before the bowl game. The only question is what the structure will be. 2 years? 3 years? 5 years?! I'm just glad there's meaningful Mean Green football to watch in November.

  19. I applaud you for trying to use Dan "our biggest loss to FCS in history" McCarney and Todd "dodgeball" as the standard for success, but that's a horrifically low bar man. Sure, Seth did better than them in the same way I could probably win a fight against an errant raccoon eating out of my trash bins.

  21. UNT is in serious need of campus beautification. Whether it's the streets that tear through the core of campus, or the lack of creativity and beauty given to the car centric, sprawled out landscape, I feel that most in the UNT community could get behind some sort of beautification project here at UNT. Before you think I am crazy, look at the University of Louisville. They were able to take a hideous campus surrounded by major manufacturing plants, and turn it into a lively, beautiful, and desirable campus. Students nowadays make their first impression on the beauty of a college's campus. While UNT has spots that are pleasant, I still feel like the campus leaves much to be desired. I am an urban planning student here at UNT and I have been gathering feedback on a proposed movement that I am trying to implement here on campus. I understand not all of these reactions will be positive, but I would love to hear your thoughts on my idea. Here it is...

  22. I often read that the major complaint with our current coaching staff is that they can’t win against OOC teams. These are played at the start of the season. I then read articles like this and see honest quotes like this “The game isn’t faster, but the players are far better,” Richards said. “That was something I overlooked. “There were some growing pains, but I have adjusted.” So many of our transfers are from JUCO’s and Div 2. Many have turned into good players and some like Mazin are excelling. But there still is a 3-4 game adjustment period before they are truly excelling. Many of our rivals (SMU, UTSA) are getting transfers from P5 programs. They are already used to the current game speed and have very little adjustments to make. I hope if we can keep winning, maybe we will get more consideration for P5 transfers that are used to the game speed and then our OOC performance will improve. Your thoughts?

  24. Not yet. What happens in the championship game? What happens in the bowl? Can’t be blowout losses. I don’t think they will be. This is the most optimistic I’ve been all season. GMG!

  26. I wish they'd give him more options to throw the ball. I get he's in there for a specific package, but mixing it up with a pass or two on those drives could really catch people off guard, especially since he's already running a bunch of read options. Pull the ball and throw a pop pass or a quick slant to keep em honest

  29. Right. I don't think there's a way Littrell returns under his existing deal without any kind of extension at all. That's not smart. However, I don't believe he's earned a big 5-year deal just based on this season. Hopefully just 2 years in addition to his last year. Prove he can do what he's done the past 2 seasons in the AAC against SMU, Tulane and Memphis instead of LATech, FIU, & WKU... and pretty-please win some OOC games! If so, then roll out the 5-year extension because he's "turned the corner". If no, we're not roped-in for 5 years.

  30. Ideyi and Shorter would both be huge losses. Adeyi is averaging an amazing 8.0 yds/carry this hear. And, Shorter is no doubt the best WR on the roster.

  34. Coach often talks about overcoming adversity and I admit it can sound like a broken record and uninspiring after a brutal loss. Well to the surprise of many, the man has his team walking the walk (again) at just the right time. I’ve yet to see Seth’s players quit on him during a season or in a game. Especially considering last year with our awful start and the drubbing by SMU and UNLV this season. I’m not privy to the locker room talk but from an outsider perspective, it appears the players will run through a brick wall for the guy. I like that about Seth and have no doubts on his ability to teach and lead men. IMO this deserves a tip of the cap from the Mean Green Faithful. Coach also preaches that in order to win, our team needs to be: Selfless, Tough, & Disciplined. Yes it’s more redundant coach-speak but it’s also awesome to watch it take hold and the players actually embody the mantra. (And let’s applaud him for not giving it some corny-ass title like the Triangle of Toughness.) I’ll end by saying that at the start of every season Coach hammers home the point that it’s all about winning championships. Well Coach, the next few games will tell us everything we need to know. To borrow a line from my favorite golf movie, Tin Cup: “I hit that shot again because it was a defining moment, and when a defining moment comes along, you define the moment… or the moment defines you.”

  37. I always thought once WE become bowl eligible that was like winning the national championship if you were at another program. He must’ve been shocked that our players would actually want more than that. Because as he pointed out for the 1,000th time….our history and stuff….

  38. I think there are four types of players that go into the portal. 1. The career backup that can’t break the 2-deep, sees his eligibility running out and wants to play (anywhere). 2. The graduate that has 1 more year to play, wants to start grad school at a different school and would like to have a year paid for. 3. The player who blows up and wants (or is told he needs) a “bigger stage” to show NFL scouts what he’s got. 4. Other - all other player situations that don’t fall into the first 3 categories. I think the only one that’s a realistic target for retention is #4. Once the first 3 get to the point where they seriously consider or enter the portal, have made up their minds and will be hard to turn around. I realize that’s what happened with KD, but my guess is that was a unique situation.

  39. Mayor Hudspeth did a great job of speaking at the Unity Plaza event yesterday at 1:30 pm. He is a well spoken mayor & he is a Mean Green supporter. They say in politics you have to be all things to all people & the World’s Largest University Predominately For Women just happens to be in the city he governs so obviously he can show no partiality. I hope Vito will post his coverage of this special event sometimes today. I say about 300 fans all spread out were in attendance. I got to say hello & hug the great Abner Haynes. At age 85(?) he brought up a 1985 Mexican lunch in Fort Worth with Mean Green great Ron Shanklin, himself & I had at Dos Gringos. 💰That was 2 hours of Mean Green gold for this fan & it was the first time I had ever heard “the train to UH incident” when the Houston hotel management said “no blacks allowed.” That particular Jim Crow era story did have a happy ending—others in the U.S. did not. Shank’ told me at that Ft.Worth lunch how a prominent Arkansas Razorback called him years later out of the blue & told him: “You do know North Texas actually won that 1968 game, right?” (You who were at that game will know exactly what Ron Shanklin was talking about). •••BTW, veteran college football fans will remember that it was the very next year that Frank Broyles’ Arkansas hosted DKR & the Longhorns in “the Game of the Century.” ⭐️️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️ The quality of Mean Green football in the 1960’s was unbelievably astounding. Wish I could have seen it, but I was in high school. Below are 2 pics I took at Unity Plaza yesterday. •••RIP, Ron Shanklin Below are Abner Haynes, Joe Greene & Leon King. This pic taken by the FIU beat writer on Saturday shows location of the Unity Plaza in proportion to surrounding venues.

  40. When Hayden Fry left for Iowa, he recommended Brashier be given consideration as his replacement. The administration (who at this point hated Hayden Fry) responded that Brashier can "get in line and apply for the job like anyone else". He instead took the job of DB coach and eventually DC at Iowa. I think he had some level of success there. I remember thinking at the time "you guys have taken the term "petty bureaucracy" to a new low". Although I think they were probably very proud of their pettiness.

  41. I don't think you read the part of the article you quoted. Read the whole point one and you see the "for UNT" is because we started the season poorly with two blowouts and many people doubted this team would be bowl eligible at all this season. The "for UNT" has absolutely nothing to do with anything before other than the first five games of this season!

  43. I love our team and college basketball, but the unmonitored, constant recruiting of players that are currently on another university's roster pisses me off to no end. This is meddling that is prohibited in all professional leagues yet the NCAA just lets it go. We aren't the minor leagues for the more well known programs. I know it is the equivalent in waiting up for Santa Claus, but the NCAA better get this under control or it will ruin the game. This is why I love Perry: https://dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/mean_green/tylor-perry-s-return-has-unt-men-s-hoops-team-confident-it-has-the-foundation/article_07bdc5ea-54f4-5549-9811-bfc107f664f3.html “People try to throw a lot of things at you to try to get you to chase big-school names or NIL numbers,” Perry said. “For me, it wasn’t about that. It was about loyalty. The guys here were calling me when the big schools weren’t. “For them to be loyal to me made me feel like I owed them the same loyalty to come back. I love it here in Denton, love the fans and the community. It meant a lot what North Texas did for me.”

  45. Does anybody know what kind of promotions UNT runs for city of Denton employees? SMU offered 4 free tickets to this past game against Houston to every City of Dallas employee (I believe there was a $2 processing fee per ticket). It was the second time this season that I know of that SMU offered every CoD employee 4 free tickets. A flyer was sent out via email with a Fevo link. After that you just needed to put in your CoD email address and you got the tickets. I don't know how many took the offer but at least they're reaching out. Does UNT do the same for city of Denton employees? SMU frequently gives free tickets to Dallas first responders. Does Denton do the same? I honestly don't know but if they don't, the definitely should. Got to start doing more to get butts in seats. Maybe cut the price of tickets? I don't know but clearly something needs to change to get more folks at Apogee on gamedays.
