  1. There is no comparison. And we seem to be too worried about coaches leaving early to actually hire a coach that can win something significant here. Getting your coach hired away because he is successful here is a problem you want to deal with. Actually makes the program money when he get bought out and coaches with rising stock want to come replace him. My main concerns with any former NFL coach are can he get good coaches familiar with recruiting our state, can he build relationships with DFW area highschool head coaches, and if those things are true; can we promote/retain one of his assistants when he gets hired away.

  2. 2019: worst loss was by 22 to ND in bowl game. Next largest deficit was 7 points. 2020: worst loss was 17, next largest deficit was 6 points. 2021: worst loss was 10. 2022: worst loss is 7. I’ll trade with them.

  4. Agree, but the difference between McCarney and Campbell (looking at them from a Mean Green lens) is that McCarney was completely shell-shocked when he came to Lil' ol' UNT and couldn't figure out why there weren't donors lined up around the corner to fund any projects he wanted, or why there weren't more than 25K showing up to Apogee on gameday (despite UNT having more students than ISU), or why recruits weren't knocking down the door to play for him in C-USA instead of the Big12. The chasm is real. Whereas, Campbell saw all of these same struggles first-hand when he was at Toledo, yet he still could succeed there. I really feel like if NT is going to take the retread route, it's OK, but the coach should have success at the G5 level somewhere in their journey. A guy like Campbell, if he were to become available & consider NT, would be an absolute Grand Slam.

  5. Probably unpopular opinion, but I'm not interested. Even before the flameout in the NFL, I thought this dude was overrated. People ignore what Al Golden did at Temple before he got there, or that he left Baylor before establishing anything sustained or sustainable with his own recruits. He just smells to me like another Littrell, except he actually left after two winning seasons.

  6. Yep. Almost zero chance that we could land him. He just needs to wait until the right person comes knocking.

  7. Matt Campbell could at least win a bowl game. Seth has won nothing

  8. Might need to re-evaluate that statement. We beat both super bowl teams despite our backup QB and hobbled offense

  9. KU’s success with Leipold (multiple D3 championships) leads me to believe we need a known program builder that can translate that success to a higher level. I’ve soured on “up and coming, young energetic coaches” with no prior program building experience (Littrell). I want a coach that knows what he’s doing, not constantly changing things every season to see what works.

  11. OK, so I was wrong about the game last Saturday, but I got a great parking space and zero traffic ! This weekend, I got the latest NORTH TEXAN magazine. Among other things, there was an article about one Charles Langford, former football player and cheerleader. In 1923, unsatisfied with the selections of "college songs" available for North Texas State Normal College, he wrote what we call today, "Glory to the Green." The original song had 2 verses in addition to the chorus that we sing today as the entire song. There are very few alterations from the original to today. Singing glory to the green, singing glory to the white For we know our dear old college is forever in the right. Down the corridor of years, we'll forget the joys and tears, But the Normal, the Normal, we love. Feel free to sing either version Saturday against La. Tech. (there is a game this weekend, isn't there ?) GO MEAN GREEN

  14. Yep. First time I attended a game and my Dad took me down to the restrooms. I looked at him, and he said, "Just pee on the wall". Greatest thing ever in the mind of a five year old. They were later replaced with troughs. Funny thing is that I thought I would never see another one until I attend the debacle at Rice during the Dodge era.

  15. We had the pee wall for awhile, not even troughs.

  16. This. SMU kills us early in the season, we lose half of the fans that show up for that game, then we scramble to find anyone who will go watch us play whoever we host the rest of the season. The NIL and transfer portal are close to dropping interest here for many G5s. I hate NIL so much that I won’t put a penny toward it, on principle. And many many people feel this way. I get the transfer portal more, as it gives kids a second chance for many reasons, but I also know a lot of folks who hate it. If someone is a fan of NIL, it’s because they want their P5 team to buy away talent or they are fans of some pissant school that is rich but will never get to move up because they bring nothing to the table.

  17. Injuries are seldom funny, I do ask how you would know that our strength and conditioning program is a joke. It would take a very heavy analysis with access to lots of data (that you can't get) to determine how different programs compare. Injuries are an unfortunate and unavoidable element of football. Every program suffers injuries including Alabama, Georgia, and Clemson. I wonder if their medical staff are also incompetent.

  22. I think I've heard of those before. It's like when you win 6 games like UNT does sometimes, only, if I understand right, you win even more games after that. So, like, you're not actually losing more games than you win. It's like ghosts, Santa Claus, & unicorns. Not real.

  23. It is strange you make this argument because the majority of college football fans not closely following our program would say the exact same thing about Littrell. He turned the program around when he got here and then had a tough few years. He may or may not be coming out of that tough few years but like McCarney we may not see a bowl for some time after him and outsiders may say we deserve it. Some on here would say good for Iowa State for wanting more and firing McCarney while others say they brought the crash on themselves by overestimating where they stood as a program in the college football hierarchy and that 7 win seasons were the ceiling at ISU. Where is North Texas outside of our bubble? Every one of us has a skewed view, what does the sports world think outside of Denton?

  25. The dude definitely doesn’t get blown out, especially against ranked teams where he’s good for an upset win at least once a season. Already a massive upgrade

  26. Campbell is a solid coach at the G5 and P5 levels. Littrell is a below average coach at the G5 level. But, they are both white men who are head coaches that also breathe oxygen, so there's that for commonality.

  27. Crickets, lots of crickets in the early part of the season...a concrete field covered with a very thin green rug, and a stadium of bleachers that was 33.33 yards away from the field from the BEST seats in the stadium. That place was such a dump. The visitors' locker room would make a 6-man stadium look acceptable.

  32. I completely agree with the second point. Up to the TEs and WEs being talented, they're definitely a great group. There's nothing wrong doing like Leipold does, using his QB/RB option game to open up the passing game. Having watched the Kansas game, early in Bean's snaps, the defense was biting on the run nearly every time. Two of the his TDs actually came off that if I remember correctly. The receivers were wide open. An efficient option game that the defense were forced to respect completely opened up the passing game. Like others have mentioned, it would be nice if Aune would keep it and run a bit more often. Later TCU began respecting his arm a bit more so he just had to create plays and force the ball some. Despite attempting 8 less passes per game than us, they're completing just 1 less pass per game. We could be getting our receivers the ball just as often as we are now with less passes by running a more efficient offense.

  33. Ha! It’s more historically (Quincy, Bledsoe, Vinny, Cunningham, etc). It’s like my dad told me a few years ago…”When I die, I want the Cowboys to lower me into my gravesite, so they can let me down just one last time.” 😂😂

  46. Just like the NCAA BB Tournament, there are a whole lot of people that want to see the upstarts beat the perennial powers. For me and many others, the first 2 days of the NCAA BB tourney are the most exciting. Outside of the powerhouse teams alumni, I think the rest of the country would like to see someone new take them down. Frankly, I think most of the nation is tired of the same P5 teams winning every year.
