Jeff is currently the starting running back in San Francisco. Darden is the starting returner in Tampa. Guyton is in the rotation of receivers on the active roster in LA. What does any of their present success have to do with Mason? Darden didn’t even catch national attention until after Mason graduated.

Late post, but wanted to join in on giving the Alumni Association a thumbs up on a nice, away game tailgate. They had a solid breakfast spread, the drinks were plentiful and the staff and other fans were welcoming. Thanks!

Nice to see student journalists getting this story and shining a light on what happened. The truth should never be "hidden" or prevented from being known. The desire (requirement) to keep this agreement secret is a massive red-flag of some potential wrong doing.

Has any UNT coach ever had a good relationship with Denton schools? Surprising that year after year there are so few Denton players that stay home, or even today want to transfer back home.

Memphis - 51 UNT - 27 This will be a wash, rinse, and repeat type of score for most games this year unfortunately.

That is really, really disheartening to hear but not surprising. I know a fair amount of people and owners of businesses in Denton and they never see Seth at the mall, restaurants or any local events. It's like he doesn't even live in the city.

Really proud of how the alumni association is being run these days. Just seems like there is a lot more planning and spirit than in past years. Shout out to big Mark Miller for all his hard work on the planning committee.

I wonder if they got Brett Favre to help find the funds.

I go to nearly every Denton Ryan game…I’ve never seen Seth there. But I’ve seen Stoops, Gundy, and Sarkesian was there last week.

It's more systemic than that. We all love Mason Fine. He'll be a UNT legend forever. He was the QB. His persona and charm underdog persona was as likable as it gets. He also played with THREE NFL caliber WRs. An NFL caliber RB. An NFL caliber LT. Mason Fine was surrounded by likely the best overall collection of offensive talent in UNT history, or damn close. This is no way a slight to Mason Fine; he was the engine that made it go - but the point is that "upgrading from Aune" or developing a QB in house is great and all, but it's gonna take much more than that. We need to get some DUDES in here. We love a lot of the guys we have, and maybe some of them can end up being that.... but we need even MORE than a nice QB to take this thing where we wanna go.

The University of California Board of Regents will meet soon to make a decision. Yes but the African-American community has a lot of pride for HBCUs. The same can't be said for the DFW area and UNT. Many of my co-workers went to HBCUs, a few played football at Southern, Mississippi Valley, one played basketball at Florida A&M, and even if they have an FBS favorite, there's always love for their HBCU. I've been around the Grambling/Prairie View festivities every year and really is something else. All that to say, the pride in building an HBCU to be a national power is much different than building UNT to be a national power. If a guy like Deion were to have success here using similar recruiting points, he'd probably have to go back to Leon King and Abner Haynes integrating Texas college football at North Texas and prop up our place in the history of integration of college sports. Other than that, it's not the same message.

Seth was a hot property in the OC world we know when he got here. Sometimes OC’s become great HC’s and sometimes not - some are great recruiters and some are not. We saw Mason’s producing go down when Graham left - so the value of Mason combined with Graham was epic. Agreed we’d have been where we are now sooner without this combo. Have there been some good guys run through the organization, yes but not enough to win 8-9 games and win a bowl game. Seth has another good run it’s just not probably here. I got a few votes and a few detractors on my coach picks needling TX roots, and I agree with some of the debate as it’s not like it was 15 yrs ago but I will say if you look at our richest recruiting classes by their performance they came from Dickey and Dodge (Todd was a terrible college coach) both with great TX coach ties. Dan had no luck and Seth has been 50/50 JMO. Traylor is grabbing good local talent and Mc in Tech is starting too. Now Sark ain’t local but he has the power of unlimited funds and a school that’s still top ten all time. Patterson who also wasn’t local but had unlimited funds behind him like Rhett now at SMU so to me our needs and connections need still some old school ties to build as our funds are tight. Lastly the Portal is a goldmine and is a tool for kids that used to ride the pine on a stacked teams now have a chance to escape and play - we do need a guy that can embrace it! Sorry went off topic.

The new stadium looks like about 3 miles west of the UNLV campus. The old Sam Boyd Stadium looks like it was about 10 miles east of the campus.
