  1. The main difference between UNT and teams like UNLV, UTSA and SMU is the quality and amount of portal players coming from high level FBS programs. Most here will agree, Seth was very late to the game in terms of setting the stage for being a portal destination. Sonny figured this out sooner than most. But so did Traylor and Arroyo. Signing lower level portal transfers is not going to cut it against transfers from Alabama, Arkansas, Ole MIss, Oklahoma and Texas. The lack of bringing in a quality QB other than Mason Fine is also a huge red flag. Again, if this was year 2-3 maybe you swallow your pride and hope for better.

  3. Conversely Mason would’ve been a walk-on running scout team at a P5 Oklahoma school if it weren’t for Seth and nobody would’ve known his name. Also, old Grey Goose should’ve been on his hands and knees thanking Todd Dodge’s last recruiting class and John Skladany for him having any success at all in Denton.

  5. Why would you doubt that? Last season was the exception and not the rule since Mac has been here. The two seasons prior we played at a much faster pace…last year we just had a roster that didn’t lend itself to getting up and down.

The boys also discuss the UNT coaching situation and where that stands at this point in the 2022 schedule. direct audio link: https://traffic.libsyn.com/gomeangreen/ringr_181646_184046.mono.mp3

  8. Hmmm... NIL Effective date was July 1, 2021. Just over a year ago. SMU was recruiting the heck out of Southern Dallas County for much longer than that. Do you not remember getting torched by Danny Gray, Reggie Roberson, & Roderick Daniels over the past few seasons? How 'bout Tre Siggers deciding to leave UNT, only to be on SMU's roster about 1 week later? SMU signed all of these dudes because of a person on their staff with "ties", not NIL money (pre 2021).

  9. If we have paid the fee I would sue them for some money back. Lets see the guys who left early get a better deal than the guys who met the obligations? Makes since to me. Has anyone sent this to WB? Judy has some explaining to do. Do we get any of the money from them leaving early? I hope we did not screwed off the field like we did on the field.

  11. Mason's coach was friends with Seth and told him about him. Harrell visited and offered him. That being said, Littrell owes his entire HC career to those two people. Only reason he had any success here worth mentioning

  12. How much confidence would you have if you were given 2nd team reps all off-season and then saw no opportunity to play even when the starter is clearly incapable of game to game (or year to year) progression. And that’s not just a SL issue, Mac did the same.

  13. The other programs -know- they are struggling. We just came off a bowl game year. So there's no struggle, right? /s

  14. Please, please, pretty please, give me 25 straight Mason Fines at QB for the next 100 years, and watch what happens at UNT. The Josh Allen-like, once-in-a-lifetime QB rolling through UNT cannot be counted upon. But there are certainly diamonds out there like Mason Fine to be found. Don't throw rocks at the throne:

  15. Yeah, we lost all of our starting DL from last year, but it’s not like Jackson & Brown aren’t very good players! And we replaced Grayson with Trieb, who is bigger. But I feel like there’s a pretty obvious reason why the DL has taken a sizable step backwards, despite those good players being here… and it rhymes with asswaters. Littrell is not the only staff problem.

  17. Leaving member forfeit their conference payouts, so no we don't get anything from the 3 that left. That will be split by the remaining teams. And no, I don't think UNT is paying anything outside of forfeiting their payouts, since we followed the bylaw and gave CUSA the appropriate amount of time.

  22. ...In the past I and others have pointed out how hush the athletic department and director is when things are going poorly. The apologists usually rebuttal with the notion of that being unprofessional. So, I've been purposefully paying attention to other struggling programs. They almost ALL send out formal Twitter releases asking for continued support and/or vowing to see improvement through. I'm too lazy to go grab all the Twitter links to post, but go ser for yourself. Yet, here we are, 3+ years of incompetent football and....crickets.

  23. We have two mindsets floating around Denton. Either you... 1) Acknowledge things aren't great, but no immediate action is necessary because - relative to our pathetic past - we have been doing some great things. I know that Vito is firmly planted in this mindset. This, or you... 2) think things are awful. You don't care about the past because you only see our current spending, you see what other programs are doing, as well as worry about our future in the AAC, and how we are not meeting these new expectations. Neither mindset seems to want to empathize or relate to the other. As far as our AD, I like the idea of keeping this in house and professional, but I also realize this makes it seem like you are also of mindset 1.

  26. Changing from Baptist to Christian to extend their reach is a clever move. Although it's still a limiting tag...I mean why wouldn't they call it Houston Religous University? Or, Harris County Religous University. My apologies, it's a slow Thursday and 10 hours 'til Thursday Night Football.

  27. Man, we are terrible against anyone with FBS talent. And if it’s on the road, forget it…we turtle hard in these games against anyone with talent, much less an AAC team that isn’t far from being in the Cotton Bowl a few years ago. Y’all are light years better than UNLV, a team that won 2 games last years. We lost to them by 31 points. I’m being generous by suggesting y’all only beat us by 30, as I think y’all will play it conservative in the second half and will let us score some garbage points. Aune is our QB and our defense is a sieve…we will only get wins the rest of the season against spares from the worst conference in FBS. Very pathetically, it’s still possible that we could beat enough of them to have our head coach keep his job and get an extension. It’s that bad here…if Memphis can’t beat us in Memphis by something similar to what UNLV did, y’all are gonna get to squeal like Ned Beatty in conference play.

  29. I miss Evan's Music. I am so depressed about this game, I think we will get shellacked and embarrassed this weekend. I hope Memphis is looking past us so we can make a game of it. BTW https://www.actionnetwork.com/ncaaf-game/north-texas-memphis-score-odds-september-24-2022/126667#trends On this site they are showing 86% on Memphis as of tonight.

  30. Much faster pace, the 20-21 team averaged 69.8 a game against last year 65.1 The defense of 20-21 held teams to 62.3 a game, a lot I guess compared to last year's 55.7 Your definition of a much faster pace is just different from mine. The stats from Mc's first year were offense 71.1 and defense 63.3, hardy a run and shoot offense As long as NT continues to win I don't care what they score, I just don't see Mc changing a winning formula just to score more points

  36. From the BB social pages the guys are looking good and fit. I'm very excited to what the additions can bring. Imo Sissoko will be a huge key to this season. If he can make an impact and give Ousmane some rest it's going to be huge having 2 viable big men.

  37. Texas roots aren't essential. Gary Patterson was 38 before he lived in Texas. Matt Rhule didn't live in Texas until he was hired at Baylor. Mack Brown won a national title and first gig in Texas was at UT. Hire good coaches, give them what the need to the extent of your checkbook and focus less on clicking off a magic box on a checklist.

  38. I don't think this is correct. Wren already knows the guys he wants to interview. The search firm just acts as an intermediary between the schools and the coaches' agent.
