  1. I know that there have been a lot of questions pertaining to UNT Sports media lately and I wanted to help clarify a few items that I am hearing about from sources: 1). KNTU re-formatted this summer and they no longer wanted to carry sports. That said, their coverage map is almost identical to 95.3 FM. KNTU is what is termed a non-commercial station which makes it difficult to sell sponsorships. So in a way this new set-up is good for us. We just need to get more people on board with the change to 95.3. 2). We also need fans to learn about and take advantage of the Varsity Network App which you can download onto your computer and phone. It is free and can go anywhere you are in the country and the world that has internet. Just go to thevarsitynetwork.com and you can download the app for free. There is a desktop version available as well as phone. It will also house all of the podcasts and coaches shows and broadcasts etc. 3). The AD is taking steps to improve on the ESPN+ product. As UNT moves to The American, a seven-figure investment has already been made to improve cameras and control rooms that create those broadcasts. Starting in 2023, no football broadcasts will originate in-house. All will come via truck through ESPN. 4). The UNT social video team has never been better. The people complaining about Youtube video is coming from the video board show which is largely managed by students and will soon improve. The students working on the video board show are under management of full-time staff, but both of them are in their first fall in their respective positions. They are developing a new training program in conjunction with the academic side. Some examples of the higher level social video are here: 5). UNT has also added a full-time athletic photographer for the 1st time in it department history. See his work here: Good news is that the department is increasing coverage and content for all sports, not only football and MBB. So you will see improvements in all sports. Still work to do but I wanted to get some of the positive things that are happening behind the scenes. More to come. GMG.

  2. 3rd all time in Texas High School Football? If only we had the guy who was FIRST all-time on our roster. Oh wait! We do! Previous experience means nothing if our coaching staff can't do anything with them.

  3. We already have an Andrew Body and his name is Stone Earle. Step back from the keyboard fellas and take a breath. If we try to pick up every quarterback that makes our secondary look bad we won’t have any room to add more bad secondary players.

  4. No also based on last year and his high school career. Do you read links? 2021: Finished the 2021 season as the TSU single-season record holder in total offense with 265.9 yards per game while finishing second in the SWAC and fourth-all time in single-season passing at TSU with 2,017 passing yards...was a dual threat as he rushed for 121 yards and one touchdown while passing for 271 yards and four touchdowns en route to national honors against Arkansas-Pine Bluff...rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown while throwing for 163 yards on 13-of-25 passing in season finale at Alabama State. HIGH SCHOOL: Ranks third all-time in Texas High School Football passing history with 13,000 yards…led an offense which averaged 56 points per game in 2020..threw for 4,344 yards and 48 touchdowns in his senior season…passed for 4,389 yards and threw for 47 touchdowns as a junior…had two games with 400-plus passing yards and seven games with 300 or more yards passing…rushed for 1,506 yards and five touchdowns in 2020…led his high school to the state quarterfinals which was its longest run since 1963…named a finalist for Mr. Texas Football High School Player of the Year Award by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine…earned Texas All-State, District 15-4A MVP honors…named All-South Texas MVP…2020 Whataburger Super Team Honors.

  5. Do we really care if the new coach is African American, Caucasian, Oriental, or Indian, etc.? Makes no difference if he is qualified for the job.

  6. Thought I could add a positive topic to the board. Hope I added the screenshot in right. Jeff Wilson Jr is now RB1 for the Niners. They do seem to have a running back by committee, but hopefully he gets a chance to shine on Sundays.

  7. Mountain West is a good conference. Glad they have this option readily available. Can't wait to be in a real conference where we don't have to watch our games on ESPN 8 The Ocho Premium+ Do Not Go, Do Not Collect $200 brought to you by Clown Emporium, the one stop shop for all your clown needs Network.

  8. Compare his stats to what he did against PAMU. His success has a correlation to our defense. That is unless you think that PAMU had that much better a defense than we do.

  9. It doesn't appear he's entered the Transfer Portal. I don't remember the details, but there are serious penalties for encouraging a player to enter the transfer portal. Is there any reason to believe he wants to leave TSU?

  10. Impressed with the quality of this video done in-house with the new video staff at UNT.

  11. Better than any QB on NTs roster right now. Sign him up.

  12. We are trying to carry the stream of the game at the ChopShop Sports Garage in McKinney. I'll post something if we get it worked out. Watch parties are fun, but the streamed games take a little more work. And remember...

  13. I’ve always had great respect for him ever since his puke and rally between snaps in our bowl game against Army. An amazing game we almost won - beating Army twice in a season is tough.

  16. Through 3 games we have defended against 111 passes and don’t have a single interception to show for it. Really not even any almost interceptions. In 2021 we had 6 interceptions (2 by LB Kevin Wood and 1 by DT Dion Novil) In 2020 we had 7 interceptions (4 in one game off of UTEP’s backup QB) In 2019 we had 4 interceptions I get that we seem to play a bend don’t break defense, and maybe don’t coach our DBs to be as aggressive, but at some point you need guys to make big plays.

  17. Notice that, even when the article talks about something App State is doing well, the author has to throw in this little disclaimer to let the P5's off the hook for the loss.

  18. Raise your hand if you believe we will never see Earle or Ruder on the field in Denton.

  19. Hmmm, I believe that that is what they used to say about Scott Davis too. I was impressed with his performance against us Saturday night. But so far, just about every QB we've faced has looked good passing against us. On a related matter, #17 on your program looked a little less.......tentative. But, "body language wise", he still didn't look as confident as Body.

  20. this shows how bad our Secondary is and also shows how desperate we are for a QB to do more than drive the bus.

  21. On one hand there's an advocating for hiring Patterson, including a positive sentiment for hiring Patterson and a reinforcement statement for hiring Patterson. Yet the conclusion, which, no less is seemingly a statement-of-fact, renders the advocating, sentiment, and reinforcement redundant. Interesting take.

  22. Normally it's the backup QB that is everyone's darling player. In classic North Texas fashion we have taken this to a whole new level.

  23. https://theathletic.com/3589746/2022/09/13/recruiting-app-state-michigan/ Emphasis mine in bold: They recruit a particular type of player, develop them into their system, and are well-coached. None of these things are new to previous discussions here on GMG about how North Texas can make the magic happen, but in my experience, it sometimes helps to see someone outside of the Mean Green Bubble talk about something that maps to our struggles and a way those struggles could potentially be fixed. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that any serious discussion of establishing a system, recruiting players into that system, developing those players, and those developed players being well-coached isn't going to happen with Seth Littrell as head coach. Besides the Fine years, SL's Mean Green teams have struggled across all phases, sometimes struggling at all phases at the same time.

  24. The coverage map may be the same, but there's an issue when the school's own radio station does not want to carry the school's athletic events.

  25. This type of process requires incredible patience and discipline which we're just not wired for anymore. We want instant results or we run you out of town. I'm not familiar with his work but I looked at his record year-by-year. In '89, App State finished 9-3 and a had first round playoff exit. They wouldn't surpass 8 wins the next 4 seasons, including a 4-7 record record in '93. Many programs today likely would have cut ties then. Instead, they finally got back to 9 wins in '94 and made it past the first round for the first time of his tenure. It would take 17 seasons to win their first D1-AA championship in 2005. Admittedly, I don't know if I have the patience for that. The biggest concern IMO is you never know you have the right guy until you accomplish your ultimate goal, whatever that is for your program, and that can be a while - nearly 2 decades apparently. One has to wonder, would we be doing better if SL didn't know his clock is up at the end of the year, if not sooner? I doubt it but that's also where this gets tricky. You have to be patient and give somebody time to establish that program. Getting a new coach every 5-6 years doesn't allow that to happen. Too much success and your coach might get poached. Interesting tidbit I learned reading about this guy. His first college headcoaching gig was here at North Texas. One has to wonder...

  26. I know he wasn’t a Reffett recruit, but Nate Brooks was someone I kind of took for granted here. He had 6 picks at cornerback his senior season in 2018. All of our cornerbacks in the 3.25 seasons since then have combined to total 3 picks. And beyond that, it’s a pretty clear reflection on how closely covered (or not closely) they have been on opposing receivers.

  27. The only problem with this is the lack of cell data when at the games. But... we know that. Hopefully they get some WiFi in the stadium as a part of their AAC money move.

  28. Jason Bean Austin Aune Will Kuehne Cole Johnson Kason Martin Amani Gilmore Luke Gombert Greyson Thompson Bryce Drummond Jace Ruder Stone Earle JD Head Grant Gunnell Now, I suppose it's POSSIBLE that none of these guys could provide better than we've seen since Mason Fine left, but what are the odds? I don't see any reason to believe that this random specific QB is going to solve the problem simply because he beat up on our defense. We need a real OC and a real QB coach. And then, Seth isn't going to make a change at QB regardless, because he cares nothing about the FUTURE of North Texas. If he doesn't win games today, he's gone. So he's gone into PREVENT coaching, hoping he can use the run game to get his 5-7 wins in a crap conference to keep his job.

  29. So you're saying get the QB to transfer here and announce the PAMU DC as our next headcoach? Got it.

  30. meh. Why would he transfer? He doesn't need to transfer to be on a bad team.

  31. They’ll be an OOC FCS spare game for us very soon. We have played Texas Southern, Houston Baptist, Abilene Christian, and Incarnate Word. Texas A&M Commerce will be just another Texas FCS for us to play, just like SFA.

  32. Completely agree. After all the upsets Saturday, I was looking at our drive breakdowns so far this year and was seeing 10ish play drives being ran in 3-4 minutes. 3-and-outs have been taking less than 1 minute. We've got great running backs, tight ends, and offensive linemen. Sprinkle in some screen plays to our receivers as well to get the ball to our playmakers in space like other teams are doing. We definitely have the personnel to do this successfully, IMO. We're lacking offensive identity right now and this could be it instead of setting up the play action and missing open receivers down field.

  34. Yup, people constantly talk about how this is not a desirable job because of a history of lack of winning, but winning changes all of that. Get some forward momentum and it breeds more winning.

  35. I think we all need to consider that Patterson is not wired for the NIL/Portal era. If you have a counter-argument to that, I'm all ears.

  36. You lost me totally with the first word of your argument. Is that really necessary?

  37. This, this, this, and this. @El Paso Eagle you know full well you aren’t talking about Kason’s stats just to say nice things about a former player. You are using it to make the case that he is better than our current starter and the only reason he didn’t get a chance to start here is because the coach is bad at assessing quarterbacks. Our coach may be bad at assessing quarterbacks but don’t act like Kason performing well at the D2 level is some proof of them missing out and making a mistake on him. Kason is a good player and an even better human but he doesn’t have FBS arm strength which is why he chose to come here over Commerce and only had D2 offers in the portal. He has fantastic touch and accuracy on his deep ball but if you want him to drill one into tight coverage the arm just isn’t there.
