I was wondering about the schedule. Right now Memphis and SMU are on our schedule for 2023 as noncon... does that mean we have 2 fresh new dates opened up ?

Funny that smut fans can’t seem to stay off our board when they don’t consider us a rival. There are many more of their fans than fans from any other school.

Last year? How about the last 3? That UTSA game shouldn’t have saved his job especially since it was followed up by a convincing loss to powerhouse Miami of Ohio in a basically a home game. I still say if the weather was dry and not extremely windy UTSA is close in that game minimally and they like win. He is under 0.500 now with an opportunity to post his 4th consecutive losing season. Any hope is just regular fandom wishful thinking. We all hope against logic that this is a great season. But I can’t fault anyone for being realistic about a team whose high water mark appears to be 5-7. And that ends up being the case EVERYONE should fuming mad they brought Seth back to essentially waste time but “save” money. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Without knowing what we’re getting from the QB position, game by game predictions are tough but I’d agree with this except WKU. Rice may depend on what’s on the line that game. Here’s my over the top prediction- everything depends on the UTEP game. We show we can go on the road and beat a decent team I think it sets a tone. Lose and we’re staring down five wins max.

@UTEP- Loss SMU- Loss Texas Southern- Win @UNLV- Win @Memphis- Loss FAU- Win La Tech- Win @UTSA- Loss @WKU- Win FIU- Win @UAB- Loss Rice- Loss (Littrell is fired the following week and we prepare for our bowl game with interim HC)

Hopefully we'll now be able to play SMU much later in the season with something on the line. Have enjoyed the series, but never really liked it as the first or second game of the season.

This was a good listen. Interesting points made by Dixon, he thinks the scheduling will be 8conf -4non conf format for the forseeable future. Said they want to keep contracts already in place with Oklahoma State, OU and Arkansas. Mentioned Memphis would want to keep Ole Miss. Spoke highly of NT and the new additions and that adding the Texas and Florida teams would bolster the presence and recruiting in those states.

I’m a big Aaron Scott believer. If he develops a consistent offensive game, could be a NBA draft pick in the future. Has the frame and defensive ability for it.

I agree with your predictions except for FAU.

UTSA - and I hate to say it. But it has been a more even series and we tend to go after the same recruits. For now SMUt is a step (or two) ahead (again it pains me to say it. I am happy we will keep playing Rice although most likely they will form their rivalry with Tulane.

LAtech UTEP or SHSU isnt bad.... Theyll all bring fans.

We're getting messed-over here with Memphis though since we have a home/home scheduled with them, but we're only playing them on the road as part of that agreement. After that, they'll be conference mates, so we'd be playing them anyway. That basically makes it a one-time away game... which usually comes with a price. Hopefully we can work out some kind of small "buyout" of the 2nd scheduled return game with Memphis, while guaranteeing the 1st game between us is played at Apogee. I wonder if maybe Wren/Neal used that as a carrot to garner Memphis' support during the shuffle ("Hey Memphis, we'll just tear up this agreement and play you as an away game in 2022 if you lobby us in..."). We started the SMU home/home series back in 2014 at Apogee. We've alternated each year, and now we're going to play the final game of that series here at Apogee. So I would not be surprised to see us start conference play against SMU next season at Ford. And I suppose SMU could demand the same kind of small "buyout" from us to square up the series with them 😕...

Just saying, I would be OK with some games against UTEP or NMSU 😇

Yes they would stay on as conf games starting next season I believe and it should open up 2 new spots. I just wonder how hard they are to fill on such short notice.

This thing could easily break either way. I agree with @meanrob on Littrell, he frustrates us but the guy did come back and win 5 games last season and made the adjustments required to that given the injury to Jyaire etc. The UTEP game will speak volumes.

It's easy. Step 1: Acknowledge rivalry with SMU Step 2: oops, no more room for another rival. Step 3: UTSA games are still fun, though!

Hearing the Tulsa and Memphis schedules I really hope the AAC affiliation helps us a lot with attracting awesome teams for home games!!

4-8 and a new head coach for Christmas

Ok so I stumbled upon the 2022 American Conference TV schedule and for the most part, outside of a handful of games most of them are still on ESPN+ and CBS Sports Network. I'm just not sure what the difference will be compared to what we have now outside of Conference name when we land in 2023. Are we banking on landing ONE of the ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU slots a year? To be fair, you guys have been skunking us lately under Dykes, but SMU isn't exactly world beaters yet. We're 1 good QB and a WR who didn't eat a handful of KFC before the game away from being pretty close. We've all seen how a single season can swing things in the past couple years. 1 actual coach and a QB and we could be a big player in AAC spoiler mode.

Wins @UTEP. TX Southern, @UNLV, FAU, La Tech, FIU, and Rice. Losses--SMU, @Memphis, @UTSA, @WKU, and @UAB We beat 7 complete spares, lose to anyone with a pulse, mostly in blowout fashion. SL gets his extension for making it to 7 wins for 3 years beyond his last season on his current contract. The very best thing that could happen here is to get to 6 losses in the regular season--otherwise, SL will come back...and the best thing that can happen here is to have him leave to go be an OC at some P5 for the rest of his career.

Stayed at the new Resorts World Las Vegas last week and it was really nice. Allegiant is really nice as well...very reminiscent of AT&T. They're just going to have a ton of empty seats. Their old place was a dump, but it's usually sad to see teams play in these massive stadiums with small crowds.

It'd be great if we made it to a bowl and didn't get blown out.

Too difficult of a schedule. Even stretching things with green tinted sunglasses, I don't see a path above .500.
