  10. Looking at his other picks helps me understand what he means by "sleeper team": "The team that, if the 5 teams in their conference clearly better than them inexplicably implode, has an outside chance to win their conference."

  12. The Favorite UAB Blazers (-130) The Blazers are still the highest-ranked team in the C-USA. They are possibly still the best, but there’s absolutely no value in them at this number. UAB suffered an odd loss on the road to Marshall, which is literally the worst team in the C-USA. The Thundering Herd’s first conference win of the season was against the Blazers. However, UAB does play host to its two toughest games left on the schedule — North Texas and Louisiana Tech. Because of that, I think the Blazers are still at a fair price here at -130. However, I think there are better options where the market currently lies. In the Mix North Texas Mean Green (+110) The Mean Green have been on a tear, as they haven’t lost a game since Jan. 6. That defeat came by just six to the then best team in the conference, UAB. North Texas won a close one against Louisiana Tech on the road, too This team has a chance to win the conference, and at +110, there’s definitely some value to be had. read more: https://www.actionnetwork.com/ncaab/conference-usa-college-basketball-betting-odds-analysis-can-florida-atlantic-win-league-title/amp

  13. The problem I had with Dickey, he didn't like it here or the fans. He somehow thought the job here was beneath him and was trying to go elsewhere almost from day 1.

  15. I would say the graduates of the past 10-12 years have gotten more ingrained with more school spirit than prior classes, which will help overall. I'm not bashing classes in early 2000s, 90s, 80s, 70s, but I do know there's been much more concentrated school spirit effort on behalf of the university

  16. Yep. I think the most fun I have ever had at a North Texas game would be the ‘01 beating of the MUTS, beating Baylor at Fouts and the NMSU game that clinch the NOLA Bowl. So much fun.

  17. I'd take Dickey back in a heartbeat. Dude had not near the support and facilities we have now. He's done great everywhere he's been since leaving here. For the record it was wrong to have fired him when he was having so many health issues. We wouldn't be able to do that these days and shouldn't have done it then either.

  18. I have reached my limit. After 19 consecutive years of football season tickets, I have chosen not to renew this year. Not due to the team but due to the ticket office - I just can't deal with this any more. After problems with my seats last year and then the bowl game, this year has been even worse. My wife and I normally get seats next to some friends who have been season ticket holders for five years. This year, he has not received any communication via email or mail regarding the season ticket renewals. He contacted the ticket office and was told to login and check his email address. He never did get access to his account and all they would ever tell him is to confirm his email online. He finally did get the last minute text about renewing tickets. He asked about his account issues and no one was aware of any issues he was having. Back in January after the bowl game, I called and requested to talk with someone regarding the issue that I had with my bowl tickets. I was promised a call. Never did receive a call. I did receive a call about season tickets and I asked about the bowl game ticket issue again. There was no note on my account about requesting a call. I asked to speak to someone and was told by the ticket sales staff the sales method was explained but I probably just didn't understand the ticket policy. They could not find anyone to forward me to at the time. I asked to speak to someone else regarding the issue. Never received a call. Today in the mail, I received the MGSF flyer declaring the goal of getting 5,000 donors for UNT Athletics. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it will never happen the way this staff performs. I am still going to attend games but I will be buying single game tickets. I will buy any road game tickets via the team we are playing. I'm just not going to support this level of service any longer.

  21. ARLINGTON – The University of Texas at Arlington has selected Jon Fagg to serve as its next director of athletics. Fagg, currently deputy athletics director at the University of Arkansas, will join UTA on Aug. 1, one month after the University joins the Western Athletic Conference. At Arkansas, Fagg assisted the vice chancellor and director of athletics in the daily administration of the department and provided direct oversight of its NCAA compliance program; academic support; student-athlete development; and name, image and likeness units. He also oversaw other administrative units, including mental health and performance, strength and conditioning, sports nutrition and major gift development. He most recently served as the sports administrator for the football and swimming and diving programs and had oversight of the women's soccer and men's basketball programs. UTA officially will introduce Fagg at a news conference inside the College Park Center on UTA's campus on Monday, June 20, at 1 p.m. "Jon will provide strategic leadership for our intercollegiate athletics department and collaborate across campus and the community to promote the academic and athletic achievements of our student-athletes," UTA President Jennifer Cowley said. "I am confident his experience will prove to be an asset as we move into the Western Athletic Conference and work to advance the success of our 15 NCAA Division I athletic programs." During his tenure in Fayetteville, Fagg was an instrumental team member of the University's capital campaign, Campaign Arkansas, which raised approximately $220 million for the department of athletics through annual and philanthropic giving to enhance the Arkansas student-athlete experience. Since the conclusion of the campaign in the summer of 2020, the Razorbacks have claimed an impressive 18 Southeastern Conference Championships—10 in 2020-21 and eight more in 2021-22—almost double any other SEC member. This year, Arkansas was one of only three schools in the nation to have NCAA Tournament appearances or a bowl game in football, men's and women's basketball, gymnastics, softball and baseball. Fagg was instrumental in the hiring of current Arkansas men's basketball coach Eric Musselman, who guided the Razorbacks to their second straight Elite Eight trip this past March. Beyond athletic competitions, Fagg has overseen Arkansas student-athletes collectively earning at least a 3.0 GPA for 25 straight semesters, and 16 consecutive semesters of at least a 3.2—including in spring 2022 (3.25). Those student-athletes helped the Razorbacks achieve a school-record 85% Graduation Success Rate, which has increased 15% during Fagg's time at Arkansas. Prior to joining Arkansas in 2008, Fagg spent seven years at North Carolina State, first as an assistant athletics director and then as associate athletics director. He also spent three years as assistant athletics director for compliance at Fresno State and a year as director of compliance for the Big South Conference. "UT Arlington has both a strong tradition of success and tremendous potential for growth, especially as it moves to a new conference," Fagg said. "It's an exciting time to join the Maverick family, and I'm looking forward to the challenges and opportunities of leading the athletics program to even greater heights." Shelby Boseman, UTA chief legal officer, led UTA's national search as chairman of the athletics director search committee and said Fagg maintained high athletic and academic standards in his previous roles. "Jon brings comprehensive experience to this role, with a proven record of overseeing compliance, sports administration and development efforts at different universities," Boseman said. Fagg replaces Jim Baker, who served as UTA athletics director from 2012-22. During that time, Baker added women's golf as UTA's 15th intercollegiate sport, led the department's dedicated focus on community service and witnessed the Mavericks win 24 conference championships and make 13 NCAA Tournament appearances. "Under Jim's leadership, UTA established a winning formula in competition, in the classroom and in the community," Cowley said. "He maintained high standards for compliance and fiscal responsibility, ensuring that UTA remains positioned for success." UTA Athletics has won 129 conference championships in its history, participated in 77 NCAA tournaments, produced more than 150 All-Americans and claimed three national champions. With more than 48,000 students, UTA is the fourth-largest institution in Texas and one of 137 universities nationwide to receive the R-1: Doctoral Universities—Very High Research Activity designation by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. In 2021, UTA received the Texas Tier One designation reserved for the state's top institutions for academic and research excellence. The University has 18 National Academy of Inventors fellows, the most of any institution in Texas. UTA ranks No. 1 nationally in the Military Times annual "Best for Vets: Colleges" list, is designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution and has approximately 250,000 alumni making an impact across Texas and beyond. 25. Little North Texas tie-in to the series starting next weekend. OU's head coach is none other than Denton/UNT's own Skip Johnson. I grew up and played Denton Boy's Baseball with Skip, as he was a year or so behind me in school. Oddly enough, he played on the same team as Tech's Tim Tadlock. I am not normally an OU fan, but I will keep an eye on them this year because of Skip. https://soonersports.com/sports/baseball/roster/coaches/skip-johnson/658 A standout baseball player at Denton High School, Johnson began his collegiate playing career at Ranger (Texas) College. After a two-year career there, Johnson moved on to play baseball at the University of North Texas in 1988 before the school dropped its baseball program. He completed his collegiate playing career at UT-Pan American, lettering for the Broncs in 1989 and receiving his bachelor’s degree in 1990. Johnson earned a master’s degree in education from UT-Tyler in 1993. A native of Denton, Texas, Johnson and his wife, Cathy, have two sons, Tyler and Garrett.

  26. Enough time has passed that I can enjoy Dickey's achievements at UNT despite the stunt he pulled on the way out the door. I had some great times during that 26-game conference winning streak. Seven of his players went on to be in the NFL and one who didn't -- Booger Kennedy -- is one of our all-time greats. There's also Andrew Smith, who quarterbacked the team to a bowl win over Cincinnati. I wonder what he could've gone on to do both in his final two seasons and the rest of his life.

  27. Baseball is now a revenue sport. Don't believe me, listen to Wren's latest podcast. The start up cost would basically be building a stadium. Baseball will sustain itself.

  29. I mean sure, certainly. But there's other shades in there. My kids' private school hired a new fundraising coordinator a couple years back and this person thought slipping in an honor code agreement into the tuition contract to donate X amount of money to the "academic fund" or some such - was a good idea. All it did was come off as classless and back handed and perhaps shady. All the parents, i mean all, quickly took the be stance of "try to collect it" ... Instead of " happy to give what i can ... Show me what it is going to this year." It was a disaster and the school raised next to nothing that year. That employee didn't make it long at the school and fundraising resumed with the next person who could "read the room." I'm glad that employee got the chance to learn and moved on to another place, and I don't have to get emails about my "agreement." I still support the Mean Green, but competition for excess donation money IS a zero sum scenario and you are needing to show what is the return. For me, there was a tipping point on tactics. Others its service. Others it's performance. But overall you can only vote with your dollars.

  30. Yes. We are getting a huge upgrade in conference and commissioner! Unfortunately, we will probably be limping into it in full rebuild mode with a new football coaching staff.

  32. As for the "you're supporting your school" crowd....the question is who is responsible for that. It should be important to the Ath Dept to do everything they can to ensure their student athletes are being supported. The buck stops at the AD, not the fans. I stopped donating years ago because I was tired of getting crap service and then getting the "support the students" lecture. That's not on me. That's on you. That guilt trip doesn't work. You want support, do your job better. This isn't a charity. Isn't our AD is the highest paid AD in the conference? I have a job....it's not running that department. That's his job...his only job. Get out of here with "you should support our athletes." BS...you should do a better job ensuring the athletes get support. In this instance, the athletic dept is letting them down, not the fans.

  35. So sick of this pointless debate. Until Seth leads a NT football winning whatever conference we are in and a bowl game no one should trying to be comparing him favorably to Dickey. A Bowl appearance are win are FAR easier achievements to reach today that in 2000-2005 FBS landscape. Startup Sun Belt? Granted but who cares? There isn’t an asterisk on those rings, trophies or memories. Seth record against newer FBS programs /restarts Charolette 0-2 ODU 1-1 UAB. 1-3* the win a 3 point victory UAB’s first year back He has a good record against UTSA. That and beating up on old established G5 powerhouses like UTEP & Rice keeps him employed.

  36. Let's see if I can break this down for you: UTSA/TXST/La Tech already have resources committed to baseball. We do not. For us to add baseball and commit resources to baseball, you have three choices financially: 1- Divert $'s you currently use to support existing programs 2- Generate new $'s; this can be through ticket sales, donations, student fees, etc. 3- Use a current operational surplus Considering baseball does not typically turn a profit through ticket sales/donations and I can't imagine there's much of an appetite to increase student fees to pay for baseball, option 2 doesn't really work. This leaves you in a position where you would have to divert funds from other sports to pay for baseball. I guess you could say we can backfill money we divert, but our history does not support that we would be able to backfill those $'s either. We do not operate in a surplus, so option 3 is out.

  37. I traveled to those away games. NONE of those stadiums (not even Malone in Monroe) were the dump that Fouts was. And, unless I missed them as I drove through the parking lots, there weren't portable generators brought in just to keep the lights on...and that is saying nothing of the locker rooms. Remember the time we turned the lights off in the Baylor locker room, not because we wanted to but because we literally lost power? Or, how about the time the athletic department gave away a bus trip to Austin to see us play...but had to take the fans off of that bus to put the players on it because the players' bus broke down? I do, because I was on that fan bus. We can keep trotting the fan fiction of "but he played in 5-3A the whole time" out all we want, but what we can't do is ignore that nobody else in that league of "start ups and leftovers" managed to put together a similar run in that league. Somehow, even with the 10 combined NFL draft picks that came from those schools between 2001-2004, they didn't do what lil' ol' North Texas did. And, can we please gather the guys like Brandon Kennedy, Patrick Cobbs, Jonas Buckles, Andy Blount, and Johnny Quinn and tell them, directly, "Guys, you only won because the teams you played were so incredibly bad."

  39. I believe he stepped over that imaginary line when he pulled the Black Jersey stunt. There is no reason he should not have had another shot at a G5 or FCS school; unless he no longer wanted to be a HC.

  40. I don't think I've ever talked to anyone who just flat out doesn't want Baseball. There are a lot of people who disagree about the timing of when Baseball should be added though. Some of us just think we have some things we need to do for our current sports before we start serious conversations about adding Baseball.
