  3. The loss of Datraveon Brown may keep this receiving corps from being the best in G5. Bush, in top form, could play for anyone in the country. Jay Maclin, if the spring was any indication of his talents, will be an excellent receiver. Burns, an unknown when he came here, has worked his way toward the front as he was the leading receiver last year with 58 catches. I consider TE/HB Var'Keese Gumms to be a part of the receiving corps this year and he should be another very good receiver and a large part of the offense. If Jyaire Shorter has returned to form he will be another strong member of the receiving corps. Bryson Jackson was an outstanding receiver in high school (near 4 star) and I still consider dangerous. Damon Ward has been a contributor as has Khatib Lyles. The Nebraska transfer, Latrelle Neville, might easily become a prime target and Jordan Smart was perhaps the best in Division II last year. I have yet to see what Caleb Johnson can do as a receiver but he had a grade of .8796 as a defensive back so we know that he is a good athlete. Maybe he'll consent to play defense and give up his receiving hopes. I believe that he would be a starting defensive back for years to come.

  10. Congratulations Grant! You're obviously smart and have a good work ethic to graduate with honors in three years. I'd imagine that you can get your Master's in the amount of time that you have of eligibility. I wish you every success in the classroom and on the field.

  12. DR. Phil is ok, but no way he is in the same league as Roy Orbison, Larry McMurtry, Don Henley, etc. Did Willie Nelson really attend Baylor; are they counting concerts?

  13. Not sure why you think the loss of Brown, who caught 8 passes last year is going to substantially hurt the NT receiving corp. Agree with your other points. Seems to me this should be the strongest unit on the team, pending an adequate at least QB and coaching.

  14. I guess it depends on generations and if they have to immediately be recognized by name. I feel Dr Phil is probably the best choice since every generation knows who he is at this point. Ask teenagers/young adults if they know who Meatloaf is and they'll probably tell you they're not hungry until you play a song and they realize they've heard his music. Dr Phil is known by name almost like Oprah at this point.

  15. I guess this is being interpreted as a negative, but it’s not meant that way. The post was intended as informative as I figured there are some (maybe many) who don’t realize how many hours of college credits a kid can have before ever graduating from high school. I know of a few kids who graduated high school and junior college the same semester…and I’m not exactly in the loop, so there have to be many others. There have been at least two students who were hired as teachers at a local school two years after they graduated high school.

  27. Are you happy with it? Did you expect it to be better by now? Let me clarify a little. Grant is a excellent coach and has taken mainly JC players, a few good HS recruits and won us some CUSA Championships, CBI Title, hosted and won a NIT game and won NCAA tournament game, but with that kind of success over 4-5 years I thought he would be getting a better class of recruits/transfers. Don't get me wrong, Javon, Simmons, Abou, Bell, Rubin, Perry, etc.... are good CUSA players but were moving up a class next year and so should our recruiting. Grant can coach them up better than they come in, but now I think instead of getting good CUSA level players we should be getting multiple first team all CUSA players and UFAs.

  30. I think a lot of it has to do with the classes they are able to take in high school. It’s not uncommon for a kid to graduate high school with an Associates degree. Impressive still, but it’s not like they’re taking 20 hours per semester in college. Congrats to Grant!

  31. More unnecessary redundant complaining for games that aren’t marketable because of our losing history. You want better than mediocre or bad TV slots? Find a better than mediocre coaching/recruiting staff and get rid of mediocre/bad ones before they can stack up 3 consecutive mediocre/bad seasons and go into possible 4th with 2 years remaining on their contract. The ratings for the games in question will be terrible if we perform as expected. These networks aren’t running a non-profit and Seth sure as heck isn’t paid like he is running one. Judy certainly has her faults. But if I were her I would not take gruff from an underachieving program who happens to be 2nd biggest school in my conference and the one in my largest media market not putting a winning team on the field casual college football TV fans want to see. We haven’t maximized our potential to help a conference sell it’s media right because we lose too much. Maybe if we got a P5 at home every other year in addition to maintaining out of conference home & home series with SMU, I would revel in condemning CUSA leadership & Judy. We didn’t do that and on top of that we haven’t replicated the conference dominance we had for over the Sun Belt in this new conference. Furthermore the worse loss in our post 1995 FBS level history was under the CUSA banner. Those PSU WRs blew by our defense while running over CUSA logos on our field to 66 points. So putting myself in Judy’s shoes our complaining hits a little like Fredo’s complaining about being passed over in The Godfather saga. Stop it whining about TV appearances when they don’t deserved exposure above Stadium TV, Facebook TV, ESPN 3 or some other relatively obscure streaming service. (We crapped the bed for holding up our end of the bargain for what should been a thrilling CUSA finale with more on the line for us than barely qualifying for a “participation bowl”). Responses to the original post should be thanks for sharing and/or what we are looking forward to see in these televised/streamed games. Citing the games with 0 coverage is fair too. But we are in no position throw shots at CUSA, Judy, or our TV partners for bad time slots.

  32. Similar thing happened in the all CUSA tournament team which was dominated by WKU players. I assume these things are voted on by coaches and I just wonder if Delong and/or NT has made some enemies that take it out on the NT players.
