  1. According to my sources. That is all. Thank you and GMG.

  2. ...to the school again. The Tony Benford/Dan McCarney sagas financially turned me away. I have a new outlook, and due to that I will be putting skin back in the game. I can't recall my old giving number, but I believe it was either 250 or 500. I will be going to 500 either way. I don't make a lot of money, so that is my comfort level. I'm not posting this for a virtual high five, but to maybe inspire others to do the same. To finish, I wish there was a way, even for peasant donors such as myself, to donate specifically to basketball rather than to the MGSF slush. I truly think we could shine a positive bright light on our university via basketball. We could be a nationally recognized basketball school with adequate support. That is all and GMG.

  5. No offense man, but we just don’t like SMU around here. Appreciate your info, though.

  6. Why "F SMU"? If North Texas were in the same position to triple the SMU coach's salary (and you felt he was the right man for the job) you wouldn't do it?

  7. That's great. But even if he leaves, I believe WB will make a good decision on his replacement given his basketball acumen. So I'm in either way. I also wish, much how I believe the school sort of created the 'Maniacs' or at minimum had a helping hand in it, I wish the school would really push a grassroots effort in capturing more donors. "The Peasant Farm" or "The Little Guy Club", etc. Something to really attempt to churn out those sub 1,000 dollar annual commitments. We can have power in numbers, but the investment to really reach out to our numbers should be made. Not to discredit the past and current attempts, but we have to tap into our alum and our alum have to get on board. Creativity to get them on board has to be the staple. We are different, as in our base is different. They have to be approached differently. Normal methodical ways such as cold calling and generic mail outs isn't getting it done. Establish something for the "Little Guy" to pull in the little guys.

  12. As I have stated before if Mc is in the running for a job and he wants it, he gets it! His personal traits and magnetism is just outstanding. Do you make $2m and live on Druid on a 50ft lot in the Park Cities or make $1.5 and live in Aubrey on a few acres and have your kids go to private school? Money is important but more does not equate to better. If Mc does not go to SMU, it is because he said no in one form or another.

  13. This is quite a leap. Don't forget, Baker is a basketball guy. He's the one who was able to pull McCasland from ARSt. originally. I have no doubt that if McCasland leaves, Baker would have no problems identifying a replacement (if it's not Hodge, and if it's Hodge, I'm more than fine with that).

  16. Now that we have had a few days to reflect on the season, I looked a little deeper at the shooting struggles we all saw. In postseason play we shot 30-99 (30.3%) from beyond the arc. Not great. Here’s the breakdown: Perry - 11/32 (34.38%) McBride - 14/37 (37.84%) Jones - 5/14 (35.71%) Rest of the team - 0/16 (0%) The previous two seasons, Bell’s ability to hit the 3 from the 4 spot in the lineup really made us dangerous. He hit over a 3 a game and shot 37.6% from three last year, and 36.8% the year before. Having 4 guys on the court who could legitimately burn teams from deep and a solid center down low really made us tough to stop. This year Bell just fell off there. In February and March, Bell was 2/14 from three and Scott was 0/7 from three. Our shooting from the 4 spot on the court was nonexistent down the stretch. What makes it harder to weather this is having a guard who gives you little offensively. JJ Murray, one of our starting guards, was 0-12 from the field and 0-9 from three in postseason play. 0 points in 109 postseason minutes. His value was on defense, but offensively his limitations become magnified when you aren’t getting shooting from the 4 spot either. I’m not trying to rag on the guys. They did great this year, including Murray, Bell, and Scott. These are the numbers. They tell the story of where we came up short. We played with the roster we had and the coaches and players did a great job of playing as a team and getting the most out of each other. Now it’s the offseason. This is the chance to address the issues. Getting better from 25-7 won’t be easy at all, but this shows how the improvements can be made. Can we get better offensive players while still maintaining the same, or comparable intensity on defense is the pressing question IMO. But I think that’s where it starts. Get guys who up talent and offensive skill level and teach them how to buy in defensively. It’s what we did with Hamlet and he even said this was the first time coaches actually coached him defensively.

  19. My bad, I forget that my coaching skills from behind the UNT bench can get me places most can’t.

  20. This is false. SMU does own more than a few homes, but most are/were adjacent to campus for expansion. Sonny owned his own home. It was on Drexel, it's public record - you can look it up. Jankovich owns his own home on Druid by HPHS. Again, public record. SMU used to own the University President's home on University Dr (by HP Presby), but sold it a couple years ago and now he's building his own, across the street from the former house. If you're going to go to an opposing school's message boards and start spitting out "facts", make sure they're ALL correct, or you discredit the ones that might actually be.

  22. DONE? WHY? Good grief There is NO guarantee that Mac will be successful at SMU and there is NO reason to believe that we can’t and won’t do better than Mac. Maybe it’s time for change? Everyone chill!!!

  23. Once again SMU turns to us in hope a improving their athletics. We should feel flattered. .........and look what they have to offer Mac for him to look pass their arrogance, ego and pride. Don’t panic. All is well!!

  25. Love SMU but SMU does not have a better academic rep than Texas A&M.

  26. You are missing the point, Mac has a lot of options; why would he settle for soon-to-be conference mates. He can get more money in a lot of places. I have always found the seemingly endless discussions about losing good coaches boring. Enjoy the moment if a coach gets what he thinks is a better deal and leaves, wish him well and hope NT gets someone better.

  27. Bravo brother! To the point in bold, there is. You can give a restricted gift. I donated specifically to basketball while I was on my high after winning the regular season championship. Here's the info: https://meangreenscholarshipfund.com/waystogive.html

  29. Got to get their story straight so when it hits the media nobody let's it slip that Mac said no to SMU.

  30. No the perception will be that a coach had an opportunity to triple his salary without having to uproot his family. I think the perception stuff is way overblown. Coaches and agents won't view UNT any differently if he decides to leave for SMU.

  33. Y’all some weird folks. We lost bc we came out of halftime flat and gave up 3 straight TOs that led to points. That was the difference. Not whether or not the student section used some pool noodles correctly.

  34. so we lost the CUSA tournament because of the uniforms and the NIT tournament because our students didn't wave noodles...

  36. If he does happen to leave for Dallas, we should do our part to wish him well and support him. In fact, we should contribute a dollar to SMU for every person in Dallas who gives a rat’s ass about them. Just think, for just 0.02 a month, you too could support a basketball program.

  37. Spoiler: It's 50% gonna be more than half of us bitching about Aune, and less than 50% of us complaining about the other half of Ruder. Sprinkle in a pinch of complaining why the younger guys aren't getting more interest and you have yourself an offseason. Bake until exhausted of posting.

  38. Here’s the difference. Mac has actually WON SOMETHING THAT MATTERS. I say pay the man, pay his assistants, and make the contract one where recruits feel confident he’ll be around.

  39. Gee, looks to me that if you are making $2.5 millon a year $30,00 is pocket change. Plus the annual cost for private school in Dallas is closer to $100 ,000. Considering the state of public schools , especially in the cities like Dallas and Ft. Forth, if you have the money and want your kids to get a better education you go private. Doesn't mean you are an idiot.

  43. I was at a fundraiser for my kids private school the other night and they had an interesting donation item: Fly Your College Flag at the school for a year. The choices given in the silent auction to bid on were: UT, A&M, Tech, Baylor, TCU, OU. OSU, and SMU. Why no UNT? Because nobody ever approached them with wanting our flag shown. And because the others all have alumni who want their flag shown and will bid money to have it shown there all year. The top bid from an Aggie was over $3700. Baylor had $3000. And there was one SMU guy there who bid $2000. it is what it is. We have graduated thousands upon thousands of people who used their degrees to get jobs…and haven’t given one cent or one second of time back to UNT in any manner, much less support anything athletic. I mean, hell, the administration hated athletics for the better part of our history. Today, that lack of support rears its ugly head at times like these. Can’t beat SMU out if they want our coach. Can’t buyout an extra year of the football coach even though he appears to be in way over his head now. As I said, it is what it is.

  44. Good things happen when you go to the rim as St Bonaventure did. Gotta hit the free throws too. Credit to them there again. And a heck of a block at the end to seal it. And let's not discredit St Bonaventure by assuming we would have beat them. They beat Colorado, OU, and Virginia all on the road to get to Madison Square Garden and play in the NIT Final 4 a couple hours from home. Great season by them.

  45. Good potential damage control if needed & if Mac were offered but said: “I’ve got a better overall situation for me & my entire family where we are. Heck! We could be the next Gonzaga.” Is Dave Bliss available? He’s got “the attitude” & would fit right in. (Your AD should tell him Big 12 members are just begging their Commish’ for another Texas-based member in DFW to recruit against). 🙄 (Lot of wasted mental energy over all this if you think about it). 🦅
