  1. Stop hyping or downgrading these commits individually please. It’s meaningless and only hurts the perception of the program at this point. Hopefully all these guys are ready to work hard through the challenges they will face at UNT. I welcome all of them whether they have stars or not.

  2. we should welcome all new players to UNT, never know who might turn out to be the next Mason Fine, J Wilson and so on.

  3. Dang! I have a council meeting that night. Just letting you know now @Andrew so you won't look for me.

  4. This is a big recruiting win for UNT. Beating out Tulsa head to head for Samora. Tulsa is a team we have struggled recruiting against for lineman in the past. Shout out to Bloesch and Co. for getting this big fish in the boat. Kid has an unbelievably high ceiling.

  5. My daughter’s rec basketball league has stricter player movement rules than the current NCAA. This version of the transfer portal is bad for the game and must be amended. The portal should be available for the guys stuck on the end of the bench who don’t get an opportunity to play (Kason Martin). But there has to be some restriction on player movement to allow teams to build rosters and not lose every valuable player they develop without compensation. A few suggestions: If you DID NOT get to play in some number of games for your team last season, let’s say half the games (but people smarter than me can figure out how many games it should be), you can transfer and be eligible to play immediately. This protects the players who don’t get an opportunity in their current situation. But if you DID get to play in X games, you can only transfer under these conditions: 1. You have to sit out a year and lose a year of eligibility. Or 2. The school that you transfer to must “transfer” one of their 25 annual scholarships to the school you are leaving. If this happens, you are immediately eligible at your new school. This allows superstars to transfer schools, but also compensates the school that invested in and developed that player. In the scenarios above, everyone wins: the guy stuck on the end of the bench, the star who wants a different opportunity, the school that lands the star and the school that loses the star. Prove me wrong.

  8. Wow, very reassuring to know we're beating out West Texas A&M and Pittsburgh State for recruits. Yawn.

  9. The amount of copium I've seen on this forum the last couple of days is astounding, even referencing Mason Fine's class for reasons a class filled with guys 130 other teams didn't see as FBS players could be successful. Guys, this is AWFUL. Shockingly bad, especially for how much money we pay these coaches. You are trying to convince yourself that guys we started recruiting less than a month ago after damn near every recruit we spent resources on in 2021 turned us down are AAC level players. You are trying to convince yourself this staff is somehow going to hit on 8-10 random portal players that are still looking for a school this offseason. When we went 4-8 and then 4-6 everyone (including my stupid self) said to just wait for all the underclassmen from the last few classes to develop. Well, the majority of the highly rated players left and very few have panned out. Other AAC teams are punching above their weight beating P5 schools and we are fighting with SFA for scraps. We are screwed, short term and long term.

  10. Okay listen, don’t yell at me or whatever but this is an extremely underwhelming class. Like I think the guys we signed are good, and have a chance to completely prove me wrong in every aspect, but this is not even close to an AAC caliber class. I’m not saying stars matter though. Just feels like 2016-17, that did have some of the best talent we’ve seen here at NT, but that was after 1-11, this is after 6-7… Hopefully I’m proved wrong in every way and we win a championship with these guys, but as of now I’m skeptical.

  12. So just so I can understand this, yall are bitching because the kid put University after North Texas? I get the complaint but yall need to figure out something else to bitch about. Can you correctly place "University" for all 130 FBS programs? Yes Marketing Dept, AD office and coaches should do a better job and the kid should know what the exact name of the university that he will be attending is but we created a forum to toss shade on an 18 year old kid? The school has been open for 132 years and just over 30 years ago was named North Texas State UNIVERSITY. The university in that time has also had a total of 7 different names but yes this kid wasn't even alive when NTSU changed to UNT and yes The U in UNT stands for University and is before North Texas. Sorry for the Rant, its the ICE STORM that's got me in a bad mood

  13. People are confused because people are stupid. There are 130 FBS programs. It's not difficult to know their names, state geography and mascots. It's pretty simple, especially if you are heavily involved in football.

  14. We have a position it he AD for marketing. The coaches can help, I'll give you that. I blame our history. We are still fighting off decades of anti-athletics, hide-your-brand culture here. You don't have to go back very far to see an entire state that knows very little about who we are, and we are still seeing that in some of these remote (and not-so-remote) locations.

  15. Side note: I’m not crazy about the fact that I’m in agreement with Lane Kiffin😬😂 Side note II: How bad is it when an SEC is complaining about the disparity?

  16. Quite honestly, the NIL is doing what the NCAA wouldn't do, which is create a new system for the NFL-lite factories to break away. Whether the NCAA even exists for the UTs, A&Ms, or OUs of the world is a very legitimate question. What I do know is that a school like ours has no business being in a level of play with those Power schools with budgets that are 5x (or more) over ours. And if SMU thinks they can buy players now to compete with those Power schools, more power to them. What we always could have used as our greatest benefit, the enrollment, we didn't use it for decades, then decided to as we built Apogee, which I believe has a sunset feature to it, IIRC. Now, with NIL and the transfer portal being what it is, the recruiting game has changed over night and has basically rendered our large enrollment rather moot, since its all about $$$. Money and power have killed this game. Its basically down to these schools for the playoff every year: Bama, UGa, Clemson, ND, OU, LSU, tOSU, and a few stragglers that get in and get beaten quickly by Bama or their friends listed above. And if A&M or UT can ever get their NIL to actually produce results, I suspect schools like OU and LSU might get hurt by this even more than anyone else. It all adds up to a big "Who cares..." by a large majority of people who used to love the game and its old traditions.

  26. Wren knows more about basketball than he does about football. I know he's been involved with several winning football programs but his background is basketball. Is NT just part of his learning curve and he'll figure it out? If so...we're paying the price right now.

  27. I got down voted for calling it out. I don't blame the kid, I blame the coaches for not marketing our school correctly.

  28. Seems I read recently that Thomas Bell, Tylor Perry, Drez McBride and J.J. Murray didn't have any offers as well. Also, it has been written over and over again that the portal is hurting HS kids that would normally receive offers. You never know until they get on campus. We might end up with the next Fine, Quinn, Cobbs, etc. that didn't receive many offers. SL and staff have proven to be adept at finding talent.

  29. Pretty nice pickup. Looks like a late bloomer who flew under the radar until late. We are down to I believe just two scholarship tackles so this was an important battle to win against Tulsa.

  30. According to Roach's twitter, UTEP is his only other FBS offer at the moment. Are you aware that our 2022 class ranks ahead of only FIU, FAU and UTEP in CUSA on 247's system? Our 247 average class rating is at an 82.01. Lower than every FBS school in Texas except for UTEP. You'll forgive me for being trite but this is really frustrating that we are seemingly the best option for a lot of D2-level guys while the rest of FBS collects transfers from each other.

  32. lots here, but I'm just gonna go with this... seeking out a "second opinion" does not mean intently going out to find a dissenting opinion...or worse, it does not mean ignoring 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th opinions until you find one that validates your belief. and the reason that "minority" opinions can be dangerous here is that your person decision can have broad effects to other people because covid is an infectious and deadly disease. if you were diagnosed with cancer tomorrow and had multiple visits with oncologists who consistently recommended chemotherapy...but you didn't "trust the science"...I promise you could find yourself plenty of "alternative" treatments and you may or may not beat cancer without "mainstream" medicine. but you also can't sneeze and give someone your cancer. in the end that is your decision bc it only affects you.

  38. This is what I find so disheartening about the situation. A lot of what makes college football great is being destroyed by NIL and the transfer portal, but no one seems to care. Coaches like Kiffin are making valid points about how this is bad for the sport and the majority of people just mock them.

  39. They give me the vibes of some of the early Littrell recruits back when we went more JUCO heavy. Guys like Josh Wheeler, EJ Ejiya, Kemon Hall, Sosaia Mose, etc. who did not have big offer lists out of their JUCO but had good production at the JUCO level. I mentioned some who did work out, but there were also plenty who didn’t. Some didn’t play impactful minutes and some never actually made it. Good offer lists are great, but sometimes you just have to trust your eyes and bring in players you know can help you, regardless of which other schools agree.

  43. that's actually a really shocking statement. you're ostensibly denying the existence of the pandemic entirely. no...vaccines have not eliminated covid. Salk's polio vaccine was developed in 1952...polio was eradicated in the states by the early 90s. that's not really a realistic bar. the initial vaccines were developed before significant variations in the virus...proven to slow contraction and thus transmissibility...and greatly limit the severity and hospitalizations/deaths. Post-infection immunity...so you were that e-vite I got for the covid party back in May 2020? well...you can definitely get covid multiple times...and given the fact that hospitalization and death rates are significantly higher among the unvaccinated, I'd say the idea of promoting some sense of "wild immunity" would be incredibly dangerous.
