  1. Or, if you want to renew, go ahead and don’t concern yourself with others that are burnt out. I go because my boys, my daughter in-law, my grandkids, and my friends enjoy tailgating, catching up. 10 win seasons (which are rare for most programs) would be icing on the fun cake. 😉

  2. I choose to support our teams, especially when it isn't going well. Anyone can support the team when things are going great. It takes a lot more when it isn't. Some choose to show up, some don't. But I will tell you that it the great times are much more enjoyable if you've had the fortitude to stick in tough times.

  3. You know it Wren's job to generate the donors and fill the gaps when it comes to money. If we can't afford to dump Seth on his ass it is Wren's fault. We have a student fee now and we are a large school at what 43,000 plus. The BS excuses in this thread and others are making me nauseous. BTW the highest paid coach in a conference is expected to do better than middle of the road and should not be blown out in any conference game especially 6 years in. Seth should be fired and then he can go play more golf.

  4. This is dumb. Of course I’m gonna renew my tickets and do everything I usually do because of 2 things. 1. I’m f’ing crazy and get sucked in 2. They need our support. The players thrive off of fans and energy from attendance, and with people like you saying you’re not renewing and going to games out of “protest” aren’t doing any good. I don’t care if we are 0-12, I’ll still be there until the final 0:00 hits the scoreboard in November.

  5. I understand the rebellion but to get where we want to go our athletic department needs money. I’m gonna continue to do my part in that. No judgement for those who don’t but I feel an obligation to the PROGRAM (not any individual) as a fan and alumni to continue to renew in hopes it helps for a better future.

  6. This is the team I chose. I have no other options, because I chose THIS team. There is not a single team in any sport on any level that I care about. Been here since 1980, and will be here as long as my heart continues to beat. Some here have been here longer than that, and feel similarly. There are times I feel like closing my wallet, turning my back and walking away. That feeling passes fairly quickly because, well, what else would I do. This is my hobby, this is my wardrobe, this is my passion, this effects my mood (up and down), this is my blood. I joke sometimes that I am one of the 10 or so that care North Texas has a football team. That, on its face, is clearly inaccurate. But how many people are on the planet that really care more about North Texas? 50? 100? And with full honesty, most people shouldn't care about their team that much. It creeps up on you. You invest a bit of time, money, heart break and joy in your team. You brag when appropriate, you invite others along for the ride, you realize your not alone. There is a point of no return. And then, you know its in your DNA. And your DNA ain't going away. There is not an administrator, coach or player that has been here as long as I have. I love and support them all because they are currently shepherding my team. But they are all temporary. Enjoy them when you can, be disappointed when you can't. But I have a unique exuberance when we win, that very few fans of other teams will ever feel. Because winning is NEVER a given with my team. Every minute, every player and play of a win is special, exhilarating, joyful. I can't wait for the opening kickoff, 2022. Really. (admittedly, I am not as passionate about other North Texas sports, but I love and support them all) GMG

  7. I must say I disagree with almost everything PSEUDO NYM said. North Texas is my team. Or maybe, I should say teams. I am a fan of North Texas in all things but I choose to support with my checkbook Mean Green football and Men's Basketball. It's not a coincidence that these two sports are the most visible at most universities. Right or wrong, these are the sports most people enjoy the best. I support NT football and BB and I consider myself a fan. We had a priest at our Church for years. He said, look at your checkbook register. See what's there. That's where your heart is. I don't feel like I'm a fan of the IRS or the utility company although there are plenty of checks to them but the checks I don't have to write. Those I choose to write. That's what I support. I say a fan supports the their team regardless. Regardless. It doesn't matter the record, the coach, the facility. A fan writes checks and attends games. It's how we are recognized by others as fans. Stay home and watch TV, for me, equates going to Wal-Mart and buying a t-shirt. Hence, T-shirt fans. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor ? Anybody becomes a fan when the wins are frequent. I want to sit with my Mean Green friends that don't look at the win-lose record when buying season tickets. As far as supporting professional sport teams, that's like supporting Coca-Cola or McDonalds. These are businesses selling entertainment. North Texas needs supporters that support North Texas because we are North Texas. Win ? i want that as much as anyone but my support doesn't hinge on who is driving the train. It's my train. 9. One thing I try to keep in mind, was that all during the realignment thing, we heard nothing from the AD. Of course, that didn't mean there was nothing going on behind the scenes. Obviously, there was a lot going on. Just because we're not hearing anything about our coaching situation, doesn't mean there is nothing going on. Wren did say that now that we're in the AAC, it's time to step up, not only in attendance, but in donations. So, if you can't see yourself supporting UNT football because of Seth Littrell, then move along and don't let the door hit you on the way out. It's silly to equate us to area pro sports franchises where revenue comes from numerous, abundant sources. Hell, we don't get TV revenue like the P5's, so ticket sales and donations are of paramount importance. Throw a temper tantrum if you want, but I trust Wren Baker to make the best decision in the interest of North Texas. I don't like our current standing either, but I guess I'll hang in there a little longer. GO MEAN GREEN!

  11. At this point, let me put on my tinfoil hat. There is no reason a sub .500 coach with an 0-5 bowl record and atrocious record against teams with a winning record should still have a job after 6 years at any program in the country.
    4 points
  12. You either follow the program because it’s yours or you act like the other 98% of UNT alumni and walk away to cheer for some P5 giant and pro teams. It’s really that simple. Some of you just go insane here expecting us to be something we aren’t. We don’t buy our millions of dollars on contracts. We don’t have more than a few dozen BMDs. We play in a terrible conference right now. We don’t have any TV revenue….like none. And you think the people who got fleeced by Jimmy Sexton are gonna admit that publicly? That’s not real good for job security. Next year, when we win 8 games against a very easy schedule and SL gets his next extension, some of y’all might just die.

  13. I never understood the attendance complaints. For a team that got rolled early in the season and had to go on a pretty incredible 5 game run to get to 6-6, I thought attendance was fine.. all things considering. You want to know how teams/programs crumble? When fan support disappears. So like it or not, you’re better off standing firm if you expect this team to accomplish the expectations you have for them.

  15. I worry that we are feeling happy just to get into the AAC by a nose hair and are not wanting to make the investment needed to stay there. I have read the other boards. Please know that the existing teams in the AAC are happy we are joining because they see it as a way for them to improve their record and have a better chance to win more games. And this Littrell situation just makes it worse for me. I really like Wren and he made a fantastic hire with McCasland but darnit football is a very important hire as well.

  18. Yeah I guess so about not showing up. To each his her own. But I also believe a marketing effort is in order. 2022 Come Home. I had friends posting pics of the bowl game on tv stating “it’s nice to see my Alma mater on tv.” Pics of their tv with the game on. Another friend alum stated, “this bowl game needed to be In the evening.” Yet they work remote and I am sure with some creativity could have found an afternoon off. These are UNT alums. Same alum told a friend he supported FSU when asked who was his team. There’s no connection to unt. None. Weird concept for me but same alum watches the unt score out of the corner of their eye. But why not even make a bowl game up the road? I plan work projects around mean green weekends. Back to the marketing campaign. We all know a person or 5 like this. What if the athletic department gave incentive to us hardcores to bring one of these fans home. Maybe we get Mean Green bucks to use towards gear or beer or parking passes or prime tailgate spots or end zone cabanas something. The AD doesn’t have to do this alone. Imagine those alums attend the utep game or UTSA game. They maybe come to one more game or maybe the bowl where $25 tickets could be had. My LSU buddy gets us. He’s not even a Tiger grad but he treks to Pasadena to watch them lose to ucla. He owns season tickets and treks to Baton Rouge often. He says UNT needs a transcendent quarterback who wins and excites the fanbase. Then the AD has the ammo to sell the program and maybe that wakes the dormant alum. Tiger fan is new to Dallas and attended the unt game at ford. He’s new to the city and said smu is not Dallas’ team. Unt can totally be the metroplexes team when these stars align. But wren controls part of the equation, a big part, we can influence other parts. Bottom line is we can’t wait for Seth to be fired. We can’t wait for the transcendent team to win. Next fall we could each invite a dormant alum to come home. Show them a good time and if those other things out of our control happen maybe they come back. 2022 Come Home. GMG

  19. He built recruiting bridges that we have never seen before. I was excited about that, and really happy to see our signing classes unfold the last 3 years. I thought the winning streak might mean he had finally put it altogether. Miami-OH ended up being a big fat nope

  22. The biggest single item an average fan can do to financially support a team is season tickets. Buy 2-4 seats and split the cost with some buddies. This gives the AD money up front for budgeting, but it also gives income on bad weather games which can have a major impact on the bottom line. GMG

  27. Are we in a better place because of Seth L. and what he has done. . . Yes! Over the last 40 yrs he has produced some of our best memories (DD would be the other one). Wren and Seth have put us in a position to move forward. . . But is 0-5 in bowl games, 4 losing seasons in six years, 0-1 in conference title games, and a .486 winning percentage what we want for our program as it moves into the AAC??? We need to take the next step.

  28. Littrell is heading into arguably the easiest schedule he's ever had next season. non conference is SMU at home, an FCS and Memphis and UNLV. I don't know the crossover games next season but the toughest CUSA games are @UAB and @UTSA (who I believe is losing a ton of players). I would argue we could be favored to win the west. What happens if Littrell goes 10-2 next season? It's a very real possibility with the talent we have coming back and that really easy schedule. *edit/additional thought I have to think that our influential donor/Littrell bestie knows this, so if he's in the AD's ear he is saying: "next year is the year....let's have a big 2022 and get that weight room done!" Seems pretty logical

  29. I'm going to take off my green glasses for a moment and be real for a minute. And I will preface by saying I am with everyone else in the desire to have a more successful football program. BUT, we have to be honest about UNT football, who we are, and how deep of a hole we're climbing out of. Dating back to 1980, UNT has had 7 winning seasons. SEVEN in FORTY years. In 12 of those seasons, we won three games or less. So outside of Dickey's run in the early 2000's, this program has been at the bottom of the barrel for four decades. You can't argue that. The proof is in pudding. Yes, Littrell has been .500 coach in his six years since coming to Denton. But, this has been against the highest level of competition we have faced year in and year out when compared to our previous conferences. Littrell has helped solidify this program in a better position than we've been in for four decades. With all of the said, it is now time to "take the next step" and move up the ladder. And it is my opinion that Littrell has earned that right for at least another season. I also believe many of you will surprised at what this team will accomplish next season. But even if Littrell is gone after next season, it's hard to argue that he hasn't at a minimum moved our program forward out of the ditches.

  30. Joke or not, Seth has won nothing here. Zero. And is getting paid millions of dollars to do it. While Chuck Martin hasn't won anything but their bowl against us, he was one point away from competing in the MAC Championship this year and his salary is around $550,000, so it's no comparison.

  31. Disregarding the bowl record (which is very frustrating but bowls are kind of a joke) did you see Miami’s coach’s record? Much, much worse. Not making excuses but your statement isn’t true. Our peer institutions (which are the crappy programs not the elite G5) do hold on to coaches as long or longer.
    2 points
  32. I would take it a step further and say this is our university. Although I want (expect?) to field competitive programs my support isn’t contingent on it - especially one sport. Football is king but unless we are pulling a UCF or Cincinnati our visibility from sports isn’t going to increase that much from football. I would argue that our Bball tourney win got us more national recognition than any bowl or season has. So if you don’t want to spend money on season tickets, please continue your MGSF donation and consider putting that season ticket money into another sport or a higher donation.

  33. This is our program. Don't let anyone keep it down because of poor coaching, or poor excuse decisions or even poor play! Yell and scream if they are, complain like you own it, because you do. We don't leave for a better perk or more playing time or support another school because they will pay us more. We will be here long after those types have all gone somewhere else. Don't settle, demand better!!

  34. I think the Baylor team just started taking UNT seriously. That Smith can play! And Binkle was a thorn in our side. A lot of positives going into CUSA play.

  36. But Wren is a professional and don’t you feel the schism when Mumbles is placed in front of the most ardent UNT supporters. It’s a strange weird energy where everyone is faking to love and believe what Seth is saying. This is how it felt before 1-6. You can’t build or keep progressing a program on the backs of fans who don’t believe in him anymore. Wren knows this NS knows this. Seth pulled the rabbit out of the hat and won 5 in a row and beat a Top 25. Nothing we can do about it. But Wren has to expect low energy next year from the fanbase. Nothing changed. Next year please give us Clemson or someone like that in a bowl game because we ain’t winning it whether we be playing Grand Canyon or Georgia. Seth looks across the field in December and sees Saban and the Crimson Tide. One more year of this flat atmosphere then hope. GMG

  37. Man, I struggled with that so hard. Same with the UTSA helmet. In the end, I decided to put those two helmets there just so I wasnt missing any. They are in a spot that isn't visible from most of the house by design. You actually have to walk around a corner to see those two. If I'm being totally honest, I actually wrestled with ever going to see a game at Ford. I didnt want any money, whether ticket, beer, food, or otherwise to go to SMUg.

  39. Contracts are contracts. Can't get mad about it. But it certainly isn't the UNT football related news I was hoping for today. Hey Brett, how about you interview Wren and ask him to address the growing fan outrage and apathy due to Littrell continuing to be our football coach? Our Frisco Bowl attendance sucked. Our season attendance was down again (16,669 per game). And I doubt MGSF donations are up. I'd love to read Wren's plan to improve these numbers when a growing number of the fans he needs no longer support Littrell remaining our coach. That would be an article I'd love to read.

  42. I don't know if you know anyone with a mind that never stops churning, with 15 different things going at once, but I'm that way and this comment about Monday morning turned into this "poem" --- there were a few twists and turns before it got to this but it was this post you made that kicked it off and inspired it. The Night Before Christmas (UNT Football 2021 Version 1.0) 'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the land Football coaches were recruiting players high in demand; The tweets and the snaps showed commitments so strong Yet one school was wondering, “How did it all go so wrong?” The truth could be seen but they hadn’t a clue, Keeping one coach too long, all the hell it would do. From high in the perch a mighty Eagle did soar, A blind one at that, though he could hear the roar; “It’s over! It’s done!” mighty warriors did type, Some began to wonder, “what’s he got in his pipe?” But that Eagle was daring, courageous, and brave Once known as Wren, he had a program to save. With the sun now set on a season so poor, Some wondered aloud “how much more, how much more?” With the hopes built so high on a campus renewed, Their patience with loosing was swiftly subdued. For the coaches and promises didn’t last very long Come Sumlin, Come Sanders, Come Morris or Strong “We’re tired of loosing and singing this song.” But as night fell on Denton, no answer was found, The mighty Eagle was grounded, nowhere around. “Monday morning, afternoon, evening or night” The mighty warriors proclaimed with so much delight “That coach will be gone and our faith be renewed” As all through the weekend they toiled and stewed. A new dawn would come but how long would they wait? As one man alone would determine their fate. For Eagles are mighty and never outnumbered Except for the ones who recoil and slumber. With expectations so high, there’s only one way to lose, Take a week to decide, prod, and choose; Who the new coach will be must soon be decided, For In only one man can our faith be confided. From Eagle to Wren is a long way to fall, Merry Christmas and Wren, don’t drop the ball.

He used us. It’s called Karma. Had your chance.”

  45. The reason Benford was not fired is that we did not have the money to buy him out. On another note,Wren has done a great jog bringing in a hand full of major donators like Jim McNatt, who told me that he had not stepped foot on the UNT campus since his graduation in the mid 60's until Baker got him involved. However, the data I saw a few years ago show us last in the number of donors in D1 programs in Texas. While its great to land a few whales we need a lot more fish contributing .
