  1. Torrey has been a great student athlete. I wish him the best at pro day and hope he becomes the next great UNT back in the NFL.

  2. Contracts are contracts. Can't get mad about it. But it certainly isn't the UNT football related news I was hoping for today. Hey Brett, how about you interview Wren and ask him to address the growing fan outrage and apathy due to Littrell continuing to be our football coach? Our Frisco Bowl attendance sucked. Our season attendance was down again (16,669 per game). And I doubt MGSF donations are up. I'd love to read Wren's plan to improve these numbers when a growing number of the fans he needs no longer support Littrell remaining our coach. That would be an article I'd love to read.

  3. I’m sure you’re the one, but 99.99999999% don’t turn down money they earned in their contract that their employer willingly gave them.

  4. I mean....the language is pretty easy.....make a bowl, get a bonus. I don't know what else anyone was expecting. We can argue that perhaps the language for future coaches should be looked at? But I'm pretty sure every coach in the country has a "get to a bowl" incentive in their contracts. Not sure how we could expect a future coach and his agent to not expect that. One little tweak....maybe we change the definition of "bowl eligible." I had a bigger problem with him getting a bonus when he wasn't technically "eligible" on a few of his bowl appearances. You get to 6 wins, you're bowl eligible....everyone is. But getting to a bowl at 5-7 is different and I don't think an incentive should be paid. It should be "get to a bowl with a min .500 record." Which yes....is a bit ridiculous to reward such mediocrity but again.....I'm gonna bet every coach in the country has that in their contract....seems like a pretty standard deal.

  6. No. He was a senior in 2020 and took advantage of the extra COVID season this year. He’s out of eligibility. Darden did last year.

  7. Guys we were in the middle of a national search for a volleyball coach. How much can you expect one person to do?

  10. If people are upset about this they should probably be blaming the North Texas official that signed the contract.

  11. you're the best, Brett. reporting pretty standard contract incentives for coaches and ADs right this group has worked itself into peak-lather. a beautiful little twist of the knife. ah, poetry.

  12. You see it in other football programs that become average, lifeless, and know it' time for that Head Coaching change. You can "Sense it in the air tonight". "The Trill is Gone". Make it happen Wren!

  13. So I reached out to a friend that coaches volleyball, along with his wife, on the collegiate level to get his take on this hire. I felt like many of you as to not being overly excited about the hire. His response was: "I like this hire! Strong ties to Texas which I think helps. Also was JUCO and I've seen that translate well in the training aspect. If she can make a big print on DFW recruiting they should be good. Looks like the kid that entered the portal is staying to, which is big." The kid staying is Rhett Robinson. This friend was pretty critical of Palileo in the past stating that people had reached out to him about really good players from the area that were interested in playing at North Texas and he never returned a call, email, text, etc. Anyway, take it how you want, but I also realize I scratched my head a little at the hiring of McCasland and Delong.

  14. Oh wow. Mr big time over here. Everyone that follows sports knows what incentives go into a contract, that’s not the issue. The issue is he has been getting paid extra for making a bowl game and then getting blown out every damn time. The fans see this as a hollow incentive. Twice SL has gone to a bowl game with a losing record and he barely made this one and again got worked. So you tell me… is that money well spent my man?

  15. What he and WB should do is split that money between Phil Bennett and Patrick Cobbs. They seemed to be the only ones coaching this year.

  16. Littrell as head coach is the adversity. He couldn't win a bowl game if his job counted on it

  17. We're splitting hairs here, but Harbaugh was under no moral or contractual obligation to give his assistants his money. He effectively opted out of the personal gain in a very gracious move.

  20. https://247sports.com/college/north-texas/Article/Stephenville-standout-talks-UNT-offer-championship-run-Coy-Eakin-wide-receiver-North-Texas-Mean-Green-football-179176139/ "It's freaking awesome,” Eakin said. “UNT is a huge offer. They run the same offense we do (Stephenville), so it's definitely going to be a school I strongly consider." Stephenville sits just west of Fort Worth, making it only about an hour from Denton. In terms of what a decision will consist of, Eakin made things very clear. "I'm looking for a good education and a school that has my major to help me become a PA,” Eakin said. “Then offensive fit, making sure it fits my playing style. Lastly, the energy in the school, the coaches to make sure we get along and making sure we get along to work hard accomplishing goals.

  21. I also believe there was a vandalism/robbery spree that hit a lot of the players’ cars the night before a game, IIRC. The way the players circled the wagons at 1-6, saw the remainder of the schedule in front of them, and said, “Let’s win all of these & go bowling!”, is a testament to their character & their ability to overcome “adversity”, “challenges”, “difficulties”, or whatever word you want to use, and achieve their midseason goal.

  22. He didn’t have any eligibility left did he? So, did he sit out the bowl game to preserve his health for draft? If so, I think he will have been our first player to do that. Torrey was playing on one leg all year. I enjoyed his career very much. That TD run vs. UTSA was one of greatest plays I have ever seen in person.

  23. I do believe that we will have a new coach next year. We can't afford not to. There will at least be hundreds that will not renew season tickets with Littrell at the helm...me included. I like Seth personally but a new coach needs familiarity with what they are capable of and what players that his name might attract. I realize that the payout of Seth's contract might be a hill to climb but I trust Wren. He has been uncanny in meeting his budget. If anyone can find a way out of this mess it's him. We won't be able to pay some of the good coaches what they were making at their last stop.

  26. If we don't make changes before we get to the AAC we will be the conference bitch. SL has proven he cant win in CUSA do really think he will do a better job in the AAC. What AAC team do we play each year? What is the usual outcome and they are not the best team in the conference. When that team loses to us they fire their coach. We are setting ourselves up to be the bottom feeders of the AAC.

  27. Wren's "TO DO" list: 1. Hire new volleyball head coach. ✔️ 2. Fire football head coach. 3. Hire new football head coach.

  28. It's financial risk/reward. If an AD leaves a declining program's HC in the position it drives away donors and season ticket renewals. A new HC spurs optimism and more $$. Can Wren and NT really afford NOT to make a change now, especially in a buildup to a more competitive conference??

  36. Since Wren started the 110% campaign, I've increased my contributions every year to meet his challenge, like I'm certain many other have too. The sad truth is our football program continues to flounder and be very mediocre. Wren is going to find it very hard to squeeze more money out of fans that are unimpressed with Littrell and want a new coach.

  37. I believe it was more like 13 found new homes, I only listed the higher profile landing spots earlier. We also had players land at UMass, Blinn CC, SFA, Butler CC, Liberty, Grambling, Jackson State, and Arkansas State.

  39. Convincing a young team at 1-6 they could win out and still go to a bowl game is over coming adversity. To keep grinding under those circumstances is a credit to all. To understand the headline is really not that complicated for most.
