This guy is who you're talking about I tihnk....... And FWIW - SL is a stand up guy and the first to say, "It's on me" - it's not a new phenomenon in coaching, you don't plan to fail, you don't prepare to lose but when it happens and you do, you take full accountability. You can't preach accountability as a coach and then change the definition to fit the circumstance. Coaches know when you win, it's the players, when you lose it's on the coach. Tried his best, represented the program well, no scandal, no issues of integrity, just not enough W's at the end of the day - he's an OU Alum, his expectations of himself as a coach are as high as what he expects from the OU coach as an Alum. In this case, we're the Alumni but he'd be the first to say expectations weren't met, he get's it, it's not a case that needs defending. I think I've said it 1,000 times, outstanding human being, really good football coach, he's not done yet, but it's time to part ways. It's like dating, most people don't marry the first girl or guy they date, most marriages don't last when they do, everyone that does is the exception, not the rule. I can tell you he's not moping around, he's a confident guy, I think he'll reflect back on the good and the bad, he'll definitely be a better coach because of it and I have no ill will and will be rooting for him the rest of his career!11 points

Where do we go from here? We go to basketball season and pack the Super Pit each home game. We have a legit head coach in Grant McCasland, this team is good, screw football and support the most winning program at UNT in the past few years!!!!6 points

To be fair, nobody thought Mason would leave that soon. I mean 4 years isn't enough time to find an adequate replacement6 points

I don't know if you know anyone with a mind that never stops churning, with 15 different things going at once, but I'm that way and this comment about Monday morning turned into this "poem" --- there were a few twists and turns before it got to this but it was this post you made that kicked it off and inspired it. The Night Before Christmas (UNT Football 2021 Version 1.0) 'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the land Football coaches were recruiting players high in demand; The tweets and the snaps showed commitments so strong Yet one school was wondering, “How did it all go so wrong?” The truth could be seen but they hadn’t a clue, Keeping one coach too long, all the hell it would do. From high in the perch a mighty Eagle did soar, A blind one at that, though he could hear the roar; “It’s over! It’s done!” mighty warriors did type, Some began to wonder, “what’s he got in his pipe?” But that Eagle was daring, courageous, and brave Once known as Wren, he had a program to save. With the sun now set on a season so poor, Some wondered aloud “how much more, how much more?” With the hopes built so high on a campus renewed, Their patience with loosing was swiftly subdued. For the coaches and promises didn’t last very long Come Sumlin, Come Sanders, Come Morris or Strong “We’re tired of loosing and singing this song.” But as night fell on Denton, no answer was found, The mighty Eagle was grounded, nowhere around. “Monday morning, afternoon, evening or night” The mighty warriors proclaimed with so much delight “That coach will be gone and our faith be renewed” As all through the weekend they toiled and stewed. A new dawn would come but how long would they wait? As one man alone would determine their fate. For Eagles are mighty and never outnumbered Except for the ones who recoil and slumber. With expectations so high, there’s only one way to lose, Take a week to decide, prod, and choose; Who the new coach will be must soon be decided, For In only one man can our faith be confided. From Eagle to Wren is a long way to fall, Merry Christmas and Wren, don’t drop the ball.5 points

Seth Littrell will be just as fire-able Monday as he is today. Doing it on Christmas Eve or Christmas would bring national mockery to UNT.5 points

Let me be perfectly clear. I have absolutely no animosity toward Mr. Littrell. No one, I mean no one, wanted to see him succeed big time more than me. I have been hoping for someone to do just that since I first laid eyes on the campus of North Texas in the Fall of 1969. Listen, I totally understand that we live in the age of post modernization where one’s word means nothing anymore. What value does a handshake have or even a freshly inked contract? What most of you do not understand is that when Littrell negotiated with KST before the ink had dried on his second contract extension and pay raise, before he won a Conference Title or had a Bowl win, he was making it very very clear that he was NOT COMMITTED to the UNT Football Program. Period. Yes, he got a pay raise and contract extension. But that temporary lapse in judgement, the lack of patience, confidence and commitment cost him any chance of real success here. It cost all of us. Integrity is not just a word and there are always consequences for our actions. Change is needed.4 points

Thanks for the kind words about Seth. I don't know him well, but he seems like a very good person. Over the preceding six seasons he succeeded in raising raising our expectations. Who would ever thought North Texas fans would be complaining while making a bowl game five out of six years? The problem is that our team has failed to meet those new expectations: getting dominated in our most visual rivalry and annually destroyed in those bowl games during Seth's tenure. If Seth leaves he leaves as an already very successful and wealthy young man with an additional four million dollar golden parachute coming to him. He raised our program from the ashes that Dan McCarney had left and made it into one that has the ability to be a contender in any given year. There have been great moments; '16 Army, '17 UTSA, '17 Army, '18 SMU, '18 Arkansas, and '21 UTSA, and for those I am thankful as we hadn't had too many of those over the preceding dozen years. Seth has always represented our university well and has been very good to his players. Like I have stated before, I have my opinions, but I ultimately support whatever decisions Wren Baker, President Smatresk, and our Board of Regents make. I will be a North Texas fan forever regardless.4 points

You need to do a YouTube video like the "Leave Brittney Alone" guy. It would at least be a distraction from the utter insane idea that Littrell's lack of success is not his fault.4 points

This was our best chance. As I posted before, two of our appearances were with losing records, and Utah State was a top 25 team. Troy was just better than us but Miami and UNT were equal teams. Our two interceptions flipped the game.3 points

You’re right. I did not phrase that correctly. Littrell was never head coaching material and is a perfect example of the Peter Principal. (For those not familiar look it up) But that’s not his fault for accepting the offer. The real problem is an administration that lacked discernment, was caught off guard, was not prepared, panicked and negotiated a new contract from a position of weakness crippling the program for years3 points

Can somebody tell me how the game went in a few brief words please? When I got to my seat after cleaning up it was midway through the first quarter. We were ahead. As soon as I sat down for the first time since 7 a.m. I fell asleep. I dreamed we won.......3 points

He played at North Texas, but only for one year. He then transferred to a school in Louisiana and played there for three years. He played in the NFL and had a extended career as both an assistant and head coach.2 points

Ruder hasn't failed completely, just the first few games of this season. Was thrown to the wolves before he was ready. We better find a QB, get our WR's healthy and run the table next year. Getting real tired of this "middle of the road" b.s.2 points

Monday would make a more appropriate day, a semi-business day and all. However, two months ago would have been even better from a program standpoint. I will be disappointed if no change. It's time for a new era, new start. Recharge a deflated fan base!2 points

I really enjoyed the new stand tunes they used yesterday, too. They were using their phones to read the new music. Thought that was pretty cool. It was a nice change up from what I’m used to hearing.2 points

RV would’ve fired Seth after the Marshall game. Wren is not RV, take that for what it is worth.2 points

I agree, but I think think they don't care because we don't win enough. The less engaged UNT fans aren't buying Littrell as our coach anymore. Too many 0- for the bowl season years under Seth. If they were still engaged, we would have had a sellout. Everyone knows Littrell needs to go.2 points

Agreed. He heavily leaned on Fine and failed to find even a suitable replacement and develop one. We all loved seeing Fine on the field, but I'm certain I wasn't the only one worried that he was still on the field well after a game was decided.2 points

Failure to develop quarterbacks after Mason Fine, no emphasis on defense until this season, poor offensive playbook after GH left, etc, etc.2 points

The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. If football is a results oriented endeavor then why should we expect anything different from Littrell?2 points

I think the voices calling for Seth’s (in every thread no matter the subject) were so loud that all nuanced positions were drowned out. There were a couple of SL defenders that responded each time ad nauseum but my impression is that most were pragmatic that the firing had become unlikely and yelling about how unimpressive the wins were was unproductive. Others were in wait and see mode, preferring to evaluate the bowl result before deciding. Personally I thought Wren had likely already decided to keep him and the bowl was unlikely to change that. I still assume that, although I would probably prefer to move on and rebuild with a new coach and QB.2 points
