  1. He must have misread the schedule and thought he was playing North Texas in Frisco. Figured he’d been exposed enough.

  2. I’d at least wait until after the bowl game. Get a ring or a watch and a re-usable shopping bag. But that’s me.

  3. I like the shift in direction....it tells me Littrell is learning and adjusting. I don't want to get too far ahead of myself here but it feels like Littrell is turning a corner in his growth as an FBS head coach. I have been critical of him but some of the things he has done the back half of this year are really impressive and I have to give kudos to him. He completely changed his offensive strategy to adjust for the personnel he had on the field. That is HUGE and it paid dividends. He kept the team together after the horrible start and they did not quit on him. That may be even MORE huge. And now he's seeing the landscape of college football and making the necessary adjustments. I've said this before, but keeping Littrell through this learning curve he's been on may be a better outcome for UNT and I will admit, he's changing my mind about him. Still need to go out next year and prove that these changes will lead to a big year but I feel better about it. Well done coach.

  4. or maybe he finally figured out that the game is played outside? you know, exposed to weather and stuff.

  5. I think everyone needs to get behind Seth and show him our support. It does us no good to criticize him all the time. He kept the team together through a very difficult season. He deserves to continue coaching this program in my opinion. He has earned it.

  6. Everything is offensive to someone. There was a recent meeting of salmon in a river in the NW discussing the brutality of the eagle claw and how they found it offensive that the University of North Texas had adopted it as their hand signal. The history of the great Bald Eagle swooping down and taking their relatives from the watery home only to be eviscerated in the nest of the large flying creature led to many a sleepless night in the salmon community. Because of this, I have submitted the image below as our new hand signal.

  7. Let me just get in front of this: No, UNT is not going to get Casey Thompson.

  8. Head, out of HS would of been one of the top rated if not #1 qb in HS qb's out of this C-USA class. Him having a year under Skip with 4yrs eligibility makes him even more valuable. Recruiting is changing.

  11. Listening to Littrell’s presser, it sounds like he’s looking to use the opportunity to snatch more high school players who are available due to the numbers crunch and wouldn’t be available in normal years. I think we see a mix but I’m expecting the high school 2022 recruiting to ramp up, not just the transfer recruiting.

  12. You have to think a great portion of this season was wasted, recruiting-wise, with the staff either giving up (at 1-6, it was not looking like they were going to be retained, why waste time recruiting when they could re-invent their offense to a run-based attack & focus on trying to win some games?), or just being pre-occupied with the gigantic hole they were dug into, needing to get out of. I'm betting Walerius re-set the staff and made a plan to go hard for the Spring signing date, rather than scramble to build something now. I mean, it sounds like they did that a little bit too (picked up Maclin & went hard after Savage), but didn't really try too hard to fill the class on 12/15. Walerius has delivered recruits ever since he got here. He's a good one.

  13. I assume you do know that recruiting is far from over. I actually like what NT has done thus far, they have addressed most of their needs already with the exception of the defensive backfield.

  14. Sincere McCormick had 298 rushing attempts in 2021, the second highest in FBS, and 725 attempts over three seasons. The idea of hitting 1,000 attempts before going pro must not have appealed to him.

  17. It just doesn’t seem like it’s really playing out that way though. At least not at a widespread level. Seems like most G5 to P5 transfers have been guys leaving after a coaching change. Even for us, the only guys who have really left have been guys who were buried on the depth chart (encouraged to leave?) or guys who already had given us 4 seasons (Bussey and Cam Johnson). The guys we really invest in certainly seem to be staying. Look at our offensive line. All 5 are guys we signed out of high school, 4 of them have been here for at least 4 seasons. Our running back is a JUCO guy who played here 4 seasons, our tight end has been here 6 seasons, both of our defensive tackles have been here 4+ seasons, KD Davis and Tyreke Davis have been here 4 and 5 seasons respectively, Sanders has been here 5 seasons. The transfer portal has been here these guys whole careers essentially. Had Littrell left after 2018, I’m sure a good chunk of those guys would not still be here, but again that’s what we seem to be seeing. More of those transfers based on coaching changes, not P5s pilfering our players that we worked so hard to develop.

  18. Trieb, Brown and the Murphy bookends could be unblockable, and they could be here for the next 3 years.

  19. I liked the idea behind the transfer portal but I hate how it has worked out in the long run, along with the NIL. G5's that invest and develop these kids risk losing them to the P5's thus just becoming a farm system.

  22. Give me Jack Curtis. Really good player, had some very impressive clips from camps this summer beating top ranked offensive lineman, and I’m sure he’d be very motivated to take on SMU every year.

  23. My only disappointment is losing Savage. I think Head was a great pick up and Earle could be solid. I don't feel like we reached for anybody and I understand that this class is far from complete.

  24. Amen, amen & amen! Hell at 1 & 6 most of us were ready to grab a torch & march up to Frankenstein’s castle, but most of us have now changed our minds—not all, but most. As an admitted novice the main thing I’d like to see Littrell & staff to do now is bear down on portal recruiting. I think it’s that which gets us ready to compete in the American Conference. ••• Hope to see many, many familiar faces next Thursday at the Frisco Classic. GMG!

  25. Everyone who played in 2020 was eligible to return in 2021, even the players who were seniors in 2020. So instead of seniors graduating and getting replaced with freshmen, your freshmen got to be freshmen again and the players who left were transfers. Those transfers got replaced with outside transfers. I agree we need to hit the transfer portal hard. I just think we need high school recruiting to still be the lifeblood of the program going forward still. It sounds like the new rule is you get 25 spots per class plus you get an additional spot for each player you have transfer out, up to 12 transfers. So you could potentially sign 37 players in a class. I think the model should be to replace your outgoing senior scholarships with freshman and JUCO scholarships like normal, then replace your outgoing transfer spots with portal signees. This way you sign those high school players, develop them, and then when the players who get buried decide to leave or quit as they inevitably always have, you replace them with portal signees to supplement the players you already have in your system.

  26. I disagree. The portal was not in its infancy stage last offseason and those guys I mentioned all still stayed. It was in its infancy stage when they were freshman, not recently. And our young stars like the Murphy twins, Gaddie, Adaway, etc all came back last year. None of them were poached away by P5s. We’ll see if that remains the same but I expect that to be the case again. Maybe 1 or 2 at most but you build a solid foundation of underclassmen starters, you’re still going to have that solid foundation when they are upperclassmen. Unless you go through a coaching change. That’s what the evidence has been thus far. And SMU, for all their hype on their portal usage only started 5 or 6 players from the portal out of their 22 starters. They built their roster through good high school recruiting and supplemented it through the portal. Not the other way around.

  28. In the mid 1980’s my “2 degrees” from TAMU boss & I squeezed thru a loosely chained door to the Baker Hotel because we wanted to see how it looked. We both knew its history from the post-Great Gatsby era. Well, it was in shambles & the Brazos Ball Room where Big Bands like Tommy Dorsey had played was equally in shambles. (No, we saw no ghosts on that day). An old timer in Weatherford told me as a kid he was a Baker Hotel bell hop & I immediately thought of the kid in “The Shining”(no, take it back I meant the kid in the lobby in Christopher Reeves/Jane Seymour’s “Somewhere In Time” which was filmed at Michigan’s Grand Hotel). Anyway the local old timer told me how one day he took Doris Day’s luggage to her Baker room & then said “that was the ugliest woman I ever saw plus she didn’t even tip me.” 😊 Some of the famous names to appear on the Baker Hotel guest list include Judy Garland, Clark Gable, the Three Stooges, Lyndon Johnson and Lady Bird, Roy Rogers, Will Rogers, Marlene Dietrich, Mary Martin, General Pershing, Dorothy Lamour, Sammy Kaye, Jack Dempsey, Helen Keller, and Ronald Reagan. Note: I think they left Jimmy Stewart & Doris Day off the above list. 🦅

  29. Seems like there’s more hustling going on up there to comb for more talent outside Texas. I think the next 16(?) ‘ships they give out for the February signing date could be extraordinary. (I tell ya’ it’s easy to see our top shelf venues up there are making an impression). Would love to know what Defense Coordinator Phil Bennett’s input to this class has been & will be before the February signing date. 🦅

  34. 1.6% of college players make it in the NFL. I think education is much more important, so pick a school where you can achieve a degree in your desired field. Too many people around these kids make them think that college is just a pit stop on the way to the pros.

  38. Come on, man. If this guy committed to UNT, we'd all say he made the best decision of his life. Sure, he's taking a certain amount of risk; but if he feels like the risk is worth it, more power to him for taking it. Congrats to him and Coach Deion.

  44. I'm all for this, would love to see HBCU's continue to get more talent and become destinations. Deion promised a culture shift, and he's delivering. He also knows how to use NIL to his advantage. The SWAC championship was almost 50k because of his constant promoting.
