  1. Apparently, Sonny Dykes isn't buying SMU's hype that they're going to the Big XII.

  2. Once again, I don’t care what others will take, allow or trade for. I am looking at year six with wins over bad teams, a QB that has gotten worse even though our HC is supposed to be some offensive guru, mismanaged roster, mismanaged positions, teams that appeared ill prepared and unmotivated, etc. I like Littrell as a person and really wish he would have succeeded here but it is time. The only way I would even consider retaining him would be beating UTSA and winning the bowl game, period. I want him to come out like McCasland and state that he didn’t come here to win 6 or 7 games, he came here to win championships. Instead, he doesn’t seem motivated, doesn’t engage the fans or alumni, and appears to be going through the motions.

  3. I have often read comments like this. I really don’t understand them. Seth is not a “screamer” style of coach. He keeps his emotions under control. This is professional and shows composure under pressure. Okay to be critical of coaching results. I wish people would rise above criticism of a coaches personality and professionalism. JMO

  9. I think it's also a case when he is winning no one shows up.

  12. What players does Sonny take with him? They could make the move knowing the system, playing better competition and playing to a crowd of 40-50,000 fans. Who else jumps ship?

  13. Does SMU know that Mike Canales is available?

  14. My only issue with Dykes to TCU from the TCU POV Dykes is basically beating G5s with P5 players. Can he beat P5s with P5 players? And they've fallen apart late in the year 2 years in a row....and he's never really challenged for the AAC title. I don't get it from TCU.

  15. In year 6 of SL we shouldn’t be excited to maybe possibly hit 6 and that it is his best year in the last 3 with it. His body of work simply says he isn’t a good coach worth what he is paid. And if he is retained, the lucky bastard actually gets a raise for this mess.

  16. Absolutely. I think Wren will do his best to put us in the best position possible going into the AAC, and that means a winning football team. Littrell isn't a winner. He's a below .500 mediocre coach. If Wren doesn't think he can do better then I'm not sure I want him as our AD

  17. Wow, nothing says putting the program first like telling the team a 4 game winning streak is meaningless. It must suck to root for our own demise just for a change of scenery.

  18. Look at y’all. Can’t even enjoy a 4 game win streak for 24 hours before you have to tear it apart. It’s gotta be exhausting.

  20. This was my first thought. I don't think he leaves for TCU if he thinks SMU is about to get an invite to the Big 12. It might happen eventually, but I think this shows its not likely for the next few years. And I'm sure he's sick of playing in a half empty stadium when he's put together 3 straight good seasons.

  21. I sure hope SMU doesn't steal our DC.

  23. Problem is what if we can’t land a better coach than Littrell? Would you still say change it out no matter the cost? This appears to be the dilemma @Wren faces

  24. Here's the issue if we keep Seth. We know what he is. He's gonna beat the bad teams, and lose to the good ones. That was true when he was winning 9 games, and also true when he was winning 4 games. If we are to keep him, what does our schedule look like? Assuming we don't bring in an all world QB like Zappe. UTSA - Probably going to be the best team in the west again, Loss UAB - Still strong and Bill Clark is a hell of a coach, Loss La Tech - Can't see them being bad two years in a row under Holtz, he's too consistent, Loss Rice - Not sure Bloomgren is the answer, but they seem to be competitive and usually play us close, tossup UTEP - Bad program, but we play there next season and Littrell has never done well in El Paso, tossup Southern Miss - They're real bad, win SMU - even if Dykes is gone, they're still a better team with a better QB, Loss UNLV - Looks like they've been pretty bad the last couple of years, but it's an away game so who knows, but I'll say win Memphis - Better program, and it's an away game, Loss Crossover games I'm not sure but based on recent opponents I'm gonna say FAU and WKU, and both of those games will be tossups at best You may think hiring a new coach is taking a chance, but at this point I'd rather take a chance than stare down the barrel of MAYBE another 5-7 year, if not worse

  26. I have deleted the original post out of respect to your dissenting perspective. There are precious few people that that have followed and loved this program more than I have for the last 40 years, but you are certainly one of them. I appreciate your dedication, commitment, and generous contributions to North Texas, not just to athletics, but the whole university community. I admire and love you #43, Adler .

  27. This! 👍🏾👍👍🏼👍🏿 I am not as militant as Joe but it is dang disappointing that many of us are defending Seth at this point. At BEST he should be coaching to finish his contract this Saturday. His record even if he wins has him the very definition of a mediocre coach at this level. It only gets tougher here as we move up to AAC. The best predictor of future performance is past performance and most of his past performance he has been right at 0.500. He got an outlier short but awesome QB otherwise his record would be well below 0.500. All the Excuses in year six are out of the window you’ve had plenty of good luck and bad over a that run. It all balances out. The UAB and UTSA programs have FREAKIN LAPPED us if this were a track meet. Beat UTSA win the bowl game and come out blazing in 2022. The ONLY reasons you keep Seth are 1, they win out and COULD be on the up swing 2, you don’t have a coach you highly prize available to replace him 3, you are saving money to have the best financial package to hire the next staff. All 3 of those things have to be true to justify marching forward with Seth.

  28. No he got fired because he wasn't winning. There are plenty of ass hole coaches that keep their jobs as long as they win

  29. The question isn’t now, and has never been, whether SL could get his team prepared enough to beat BAD teams (FIU has given up 45+ points a total of six times this season). The question is whether he can coach the team up to stay competitive with good teams in our league (nope, see UAB and Marshall games) or whether he can adjust and close out games where we lead (nope, see Liberty game). We have seen how high Littrell can take us. I think he is a great guy and even an excellent ambassador for our program…but the name of the game is winning, even if circumstances aren’t 100% perfect. As my officers tell me at least once a week, “that’s why they pay you the big bucks.”

  32. Mark the tape, TCU will have a head coach not named Sonny Dykes for the 2026 season.

  33. And I respect a coach that isn't a screamer, but when your team comes out game after game looking down and not ready then it reflects on the head coach.

  34. This is wonderful news! Out of respect to PB all fans at UTSA game should wear khaki shorts.

  35. Yes, there are some positives this year. This is great news and likely a major reason for our current winning streak. Let's keep up the good work!

  36. Yep so UTSA is very young and UAB just restarted their program after killing it. Now both are killing us on the field. So without beating UTSA there is no reason to keep SL.

  37. You left out the part where you tell us Texas State fans are giddy because “it could be worse”

  38. Let’s get down to the real business at hand; UTSA. They had such cute 210 helmets yesterday. I figured we could give them some design suggestions of our own. I’ll start…

  40. UTEP just won their 7th game yesterday. We can acknowledge they aren’t an elite CUSA while not pretending they are bottom of the conference.
    4 points
  41. Oh, I remember the first 3 years. I remember being dismantled in bowl games. I remember not winning any championships, and being curb stomped in the one conference title game. I remember that he never replaced Mason Fine, or the wide receivers that now play in the NFL. I remember that we absolutely SKEWER Darrell Dickey for failing to recruit well after he hit on a couple good classes…is the standard different for SL, have we lowered the bar for a guy we pay millions? And “we aren’t Texas” is the most defeatist attitude I have ever heard! We may not have a Big XII level budget or facilities, but we damn sure have a budget and facilities at the top of CUSA. The problem with SL, and there are absolutely ZERO valid excuses, is that we don’t have a football program that is at the top of CUSA.

  42. But Littrell convinced Bennett to come out of retirement to fix the defense. Do you not give him any credit for that? We like to rip Littrell for his failed assistant hires so we need to credit him for the ones that work.
    4 points
  43. Sure…if he wins out with 2 wins over quality opponents (UTSA, bowl game). That would be a real sign of progress. Not beating 4 teams in the cellar of CUSA.
