  2. The Mean Green held utAlmost to their 3rd fewest points in a game in program history and I LOVED every damn minute of it. https://utamavs.com/news/2021/11/18/mens-basketball-uta-falls-at-unt-thursday-night.aspx Rick

  6. That 1st half was impressive. The 2nd half was a strong defensive show and would win games, but that 1st half wins championships.

  7. I am happy they did this before they potentially lose to UAB. No backsies folks. Obviously it is a special situation. But just in general it is good if all teams in conference travel more and more fans to each others games, and if NT and UTSA were to bring 5k+ to each others games every season, that would only benefit both programs.

  8. Ugh. Congratulations on a nice win. Most of the UTA-UNT games are really close but you can see that this UTA team has some good players but is not cohesive offensively at all. UNT has so much more size and speed and organization on both ends of the floor than we do at this point. A lot of our turnovers were our own fault...stepping out of bounds, bad offensive fouls away from the ball, charging, etc. Our guys were tentative on passes and taking shots and just not fast enough getting to the glass or loose balls and you simply can't play that way against a good defensive team like UNT. Hence the 28 point loss or whatever it was. Hopefully we will get better by January for conference play. We still have more NCAA tournament teams like Nevada and Oral Roberts and a good Lamar team to play before conference starts. Good luck the rest of the way and hopefully we will see the Mean Green play an improved Mavs team next fall at the College Park Center. Hard to believe our new arena turns 10 years old in February.

  9. I better not be surrounded by UTSA fans in section 207 otherwise I'm gonna be mad. I won't be mad that I'm surrounded by UTSA (although I certainly won't be happy about that), but because those seats require a minimum MGSF donation.

  10. Really really nice renderings of what looks to be a new plaza area in the endzone where it’s just the scoreboard right now. With the Lightthetower plan and how they want to expand the AC, I think something like this with the 2 big scoreboards on the sides is something we should do. In the past I’ve been opposed to doing the smaller (ish) scoreboards, but these renderings looked great and I could imagine how nice it would be at UNT. If not the small scoreboards, like we’ve talked about before, do the big one on the new expanded complex. Just something I saw very interesting and nice.

  12. What awful timing. If true, it will no-doubt torpedo SMUs competitiveness in what I was expecting to be a very good game.

  13. Why? Because a biased article from the local beat reporter? JF is easy picking now and he will be blamed for every problem at VT.

  26. Not necessarily among the fan base. I go back to when Sonny was hired and it was truly an out of nowhere kind of move. He was an unpaid analyst on TCU's staff after getting canned from CAL. Part of the rationale on his hiring is that he was still being paid a ton of money by CAL and was willing to take a little less up front and bet on himself that he could leverage more $$$ down the line. I've heard Bob Stoops is a name to keep an eye on. Rick Hart (SMU AD) worked at OU and knows Stoops well. I'd also keep an eye on Tom Herman for some of the same reasons cited on Dykes. Still being paid an insane amount of money by Texas and would put together a killer staff. He gave Ra'Shaad Samples his first coaching gig at Texas before being hired away by Sonny at SMU. I've heard he's a bit of a rick with a p to deal with and that might rub some of the SMU folks the wrong way but if you can give me the UH version of Tom Herman I'm all for it.

  27. Early buzz is kicking the tires on Bob Stoops. He was coaching for the Dallas Renegades last year so he may still have the fire in his belly to be a head coach again. Also hearing that SMU will at least interview Deion Sanders. He's close with Ra'Shaad Samples (SMU's ace DFW recruiter) and would certainly be a splash. Risky hire though for obvious reasons.

  29. I think this is going to be another really good team, but it’s looking like depth is probably going to be a shortcoming. Simmons taking up a scholarship 5 straight seasons while never being playable is a glaring roster mismanagement. Mccasland has obviously earned any benefit of doubt, but it’s still a bit frustrating. That being said, the dominant win is the much bigger takeaway here. Defense is already looking solid with the new pieces filling in well.

  31. Quick side note. South Carolina and James Reese just beat UAB. Reese was their second leading scorer with 14 points. UTA is not good.

  34. You do realize we play them in 2 weeks? That seems like a rather "duh" moment. The other half of that "duh" moment is that they are highly over-rated, and UNT has a chance to end this season with a very very loud bang. I'm excited to see some positive football action for a change, aren't you?

  37. Odd, I would kinda think that might endear him to a lot of those folks?

  38. Yeah I'm not expecting a great result tomorrow. Dykes hasn't handled this well. Not that there's an easy way to do it but he's been extremely cagey in interviews about whether or not him not signing the 7 year $28m extension offered a few weeks back was causing a distraction. Hate it for the kids but its a business.

  40. I mean, technically if he wins out it isn’t three seasons. I am in the fire Seth category, but there is no way we fire someone who wins six straight including a bowl. Just won’t happen.

  41. That would rule out a huge portion of many P5 schools. Maybe cut that down to $50m minimum budget.

  44. Fordham to Richmond to Bowling Green is a similar career arc to Carthel if we were to bring him in from SFA. Not saying he's my favorite, but to excuse a current FCS coach who is a proven winner and program builder would be a mistake, impo.

  45. My annual post on this board... UTA changed coaches in the offseason...former UT star Chris Ogden took a non-coaching job with UT and coach Beard after about a .500 record in 3 years at UTA. Longtime assistant Greg Young (going back to the Scott Cross era) is now head coach and this team is definitely a work in progress this season. About 1/2 roster is new, and that was apparent last night against ACU. Offense is going to take some time to gel. ACU is a good team this year that lost by 14 at Utah and took Texas A&M into 2 OT. But UTA lost that game last night because we turned the ball over 28 times and some horrible officiating didn't help as well. If we even turn the ball over just the usual 15-20 times, it's a 10-15 point win easily for UTA. For the first time in probably 10 years, UTA has some major height inside and defends the paint extremely, extremely well and we have signed a couple of strong 6'7 forwards for next year so defense and toughness may be the new direction, rather than guards hoisting a lot of 3s. We held ACU to 28% from the field. Azore is probably our biggest scorer but Shemar Wilson, a 6'9 freshman center turns a lot of misses into putbacks and 6'9 Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu is one of the best shot blockers in the nation. Pedro Castro can score a ton if he gets hot from outside, and Montez Young is a 6'5 freshman that has a ton of energy and can rebound, block shots and score from anywhere. I think North Texas is by far the most experienced team and wins by 10 in Denton. A rebuilding season for us, but I think coach Young can get us back to the Scott Cross level of winning in a year or two and hopefully see the kind of success North Texas has enjoyed he last few years.

  46. If we can control their senior guard, Azore, then we should handle them pretty easily. I feel comfortable McCasland will have a plan in place to do just this and expect us to win going away.
