  1. If ESPN tells MAC to take WKU and MTSU it will pretty much be over. Didn't La Tech give an ESPN bowl the middle finger a few years back when the opponent was going to be ULM or ULL? Precisely why ESPN is taking CUSA apart after CUSA spurned ESPN on a TV deal a decade ago. The mouse never forgets.

  3. I would love to see baseball as much as the next guy, but I don’t think we should add baseball until we improve the athletic center, basketball arena/practice facility/volleyball, softball, etc. I’m not a fan of adding sports until we have the facilities our current sports need and deserve. Plus, anything we can do to keep McCasland for another few years, I’m all in.

  4. Was out shopping with my wife and saw a guy decked out in UNT stuff with a sweet battle flag hat. Thought it was him but threw up the claw and gave him a Go Mean Green. He asked if I was alum and I said yes and he said he coached there. I asked him if he was coach DeLong and we talked a bit about the team. Told him losing Hope was a big blow but he said he had a couple pitchers with live arms and is expecting a good team for the next 2-3 seasons. Also told him I hoped we could hang on to him and he said his family loved Denton so much, they decided to stay even after being contacted by a Big 12 school. Seemed like a down to earth guy. Really happy we have him as our Softball coach and gives me hope that Wren will make a similar impactful hire for football.

  5. C-USA was the original "P6" conference back in the day. And even after the AAC's formation, Bannowsky set the conference up for success... Then, Judy'd. For her final imbicilic act, Judy decided to stare-down ESPN and leave the table to find media money elsewhere. She found only scraps anyway, and lost. Bad. As did All C-USA schools not named NC-Charlotte, FAU, UAB, Rice, NT, & UTSA. WKU & MT will land somewhere. UTEP had 20+ years in C-USA to prove they want to be serious in Athletics... and never did. FIU is now out on a complete island because they made bad hire after bad hire & can't seem to find money despite being a GIGANTIC school (enrollment at almost 60,000 students!!!). Man, I HATE this for LATech. They do just about everything right given their resources. Yet they're about be left without a home. Heck, I think their b-ball is about to win C-USA this year! <ducks out the door dodging y'all's sharp objects>

  7. Hard to imagine ULM will be in a better conference than La Tech. I don’t know how C-USA can make it work with UTEP at one end and FIU at the other.

  8. New coach needs to bring in new S&C. This is insane that we’re running out of players on defense.

  9. I think maybe that loyalty was rewarded with allowing him to coach THIS SEASON. The first sign of adversity was when NT regressed to a 4-win season in 2019, despite having both the greatest QB & WR the school has ever seen on the same roster. Last year, you blame COVID & move on, despite not showing much progress. This year, we're even worse, with little discipline, extremely low energy/heart, and what's looking like a possible 1-win season. The loyalty should no-longer be rewarded. We need to use next season in C-USA West as an entire "tune-up season" (like our first game each season with a FCS) with our new coach, so we can build up team comradery and expectations for the first season in AAC. We simply cannot allow this upcoming buffer season to be Littrell's swan song.

  11. I’d think Wren wants to get a series with the new B12 team in Houston, but I agree on the cusa part. Even bring back games against ULL or Troy

  12. I think we did as well @GrayEagle. I think the Mountain West made a huge mistake here by losing out on the best Texas teams available. And lost in translation, they added a very competitive FAU program that pounded SMU in a bowl game fairly recently. I just never got the infatuation with the Mountain West. I ind the AAC to be a much superior conference in terms of teams that have the location, enrollment, resources and potential to explode. The Mountain West will always get some west coast eyeballs because of their time zone. I think the AAC is the best fit for us and am thrilled we were able to make it in. My biggest concern is will we have the ability to compete in this conference. It could take time. With the right coach I think it could happen quickly. This is a tough conference in both football and basketball. It is also a great place to build a program as evidenced by Cincy, UCF, and Houston/Memphis/SMU most recently.

  13. I like La Tech… I do. But I will find it quite amusing that they will end up begging the sun belt and ULM to let la tech join them when all along la tech has SMU’d them up to a week ago.

  14. Rooting for Dusty Baker and the Braves (Been a big fan of Joc Pederson fan since his days in the minors!)..... I know what I said, but hell, it's fun to be a hypocrite sometimes and ride a bandwagon! That's Baker, number 12, he was on deck when Hank Aaron hit is record-breaking home run!

  16. I didn't mark off Missouri in 2030 yet, since we haven't officially announced our move to the SEC. I wonder if we'll be able to back out of the Memphis game next year, since their won't be a return game?

  18. I don't think this is the case. This team has regressed significantly in several areas including penalties, blown assignments, and play calling. All of which are on coaching. Last week notwithstanding, this team has also noticeably quit on the field in several games, which is also on coaching. With 2 seasons left before we join the new conference, now is the time to bring in a new coach, give him time to establish their system, look to compete in CUSA, and hit the ground running in the American. Anything other than this would be a massive mistake.

  23. Sorry, but baseball isn't a dying sport and using independent minor league teams with no major league affiliation as examples is really comparing apples and oranges. The Roughriders seem to be doing fine and drawing good crowds and the talent at the high school level in the DFW area is superb.

  24. It is up to all 6 teams to step it up and be ready in 2023. People are saying this is bad for the AAC - all of the talking will not change that - Show them by your actions!

  25. This is not true. Remember a couple of years ago the women had to play a game at TWU because the education department had an event scheduled and wouldn’t change it. The SuperPit was built with education monies. The education department owns it and controls it not the athletic department. They do a very good job of scheduling athletics but occasionally don’t.

  26. We've never had executive leadership that would commit enough to get the right people to build a winning program. The clods we've had over the years do lots of stupid things like our microscopic logo against all the real logos on the espn NCAAF weekly schedules. Stupid. Like AOD, I have no expectation that will ever change. I mean, I demand and reasonably should expect it, but maybe the people in Austin keep doing us in at the executive level. All the crap rolls down from there. We'd have to cause a mass scene down there for there to be a significant enough change. It's sickening.

  28. Once QB is outside of the tackle box only requirement to avoid grounding is for the ball to cross the line of scrimmage. The rule for forward pass doesn’t require facing the target. A few schools have run a trick play where the QB fakes a handoff and turns his back to the line of scrimmage then flips the ball over his head. The kicker on this is the defender trying to get the QB under control ends up pushing him toward the line of scrimmage so there is forward progress. By fluke I happened to tune in just before it happened and initially thought wow, and then it dawned on me, out of pocket, legal forward pass, forward progress, it’s an incomplete pass. I immediately dashed off an email to Steve Shaw so it might show up in this week’s rules review video.

  29. We've been to five bowl games in the last 8 years. I realize a lot of us want to do better than that, but it's a hell of a difference from the drought of 2005-2012. The only thing that kept me going back then was Johnny Jones. We're on an upward trajectory, and I have no doubt that will continue even higher once we move on from Littrell.

  31. I believe that the AAC is as strong/stronger as the MWC and will last just as long. Since three of the AAC's strongest teams have been cherry-picked, the MWC may be a little stronger at the top. However, if Boise State and San Diego State should leave, the rest of the conference is pretty average. Better yet, the AAC will save us a ton of money with increased revenue to share and a tremendous amount in travel costs. Our farthest trip will be to Philadelphia which is about 1,500 miles which we'll have to make twice every seven years. The MWC has four members that are farther than that. Furthermore, all of the West Division of the AAC will be closer than the nearest member of the MWC (New Mexico). We made out like a bandit.

  32. The latest domino in the realignment bonanza has fallen, and it has put the future of Conference USA in doubt. Southern Miss announced Tuesday that it has accepted an invitation to join the Sun Belt Conference, with the school making the move no later than July 1, 2023. "Today is a great day for Southern Miss. I want to thank Commissioner [Keith] Gill and the Board of Directors within the Sun Belt for their faith in our institution and our ability to add value to the conference," said Southern Mississippi athletic director Jeremy McClain. "We are excited about adding our rich tradition of success and passionate fan base to a conference that values those attributes, and look forward to working together to continue to elevate the Sun Belt on the national stage." Southern Miss has been a member of Conference USA since the creation of the league in 1995. It has five C-USA football championships under its belt, with the last one coming in 2011. read more: https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/southern-miss-joins-sun-belt-with-two-more-conference-usa-teams-fcs-program-expected-to-follow/amp/

  33. If you looked at this from the opposite side could you make a case that Littrell stayed loyal to the program and passed on supposed offers from Tech and KState when things were really rolling. Do you just turn your back on that loyalty at the first sign of adversity? The more I look around, the more I start to wonder if a move will actually be made after the season or if he will be given 1 more year now that a conference change is not hanging in the balance. I suppose a lot will depend on how the rest of the season goes. Last week could have been the final nail if it would have been a Portland State type blowout, but the team actually showed some fight. I guess we will find out soon enough.
