  1. Congratulations. Looking forward to seeing you guys on the hilltop.

  2. Damn, it's almost like Wren Baker is a really good athletic director and knows what he's doing.

  3. I have it on good authority that your sources are full of sh*t and these things don't get announced if they are not going to happen. People can bitch, moan and bluster all they want, but things like this are bigger than "big donors." You think the rest of AAC going to suddenly want UTEP or LA Tech over UNT?

  4. Congrats my fellow Texans! I look forward to the continued rivalry. And beating the shit out of SMU. They dodged us last year, can’t do it anymore! We have fun times ahead.

  5. UTSA and SMU fans arguing on a North Texas site? I already love this

  6. For anyone interested, the 2 SMU boards are very mad and I LOVE IT!!!!

  7. Hey... Today we are optimist. As a UNT fan I know it feels weird and unnatural. These are good symptoms. If they persist for more than 4 hours though, please consult your doctor

  8. I know this is not official, but I don’t see how you could be a UNT fan and not be excited about this. It’s so much better than where we are now.

  10. I think that making a move to the AAC is great news for UNT! And UNT making a move to the AAC is great news for the AAC and it’s member institutions! As a former university fundraiser, it is highly likely that all VIP personnel at each institution have already been briefed on what is about to transpire and have at least for the most part given their support to these moves. This includes university administrators, board members and key donors. These SMU “big money donors” that may be raising concerns are not in that key group of donors that would have already given support to this move and are really the true big money donors. People sometimes think they are the big money donors, but in reality, they are not in the group of donors giving transformative gifts to a university or other cause. The key donors that SMU and the other member schools needed to have on board in support of this move are very likely already on board. Anyway, just my opinion based on experience. Excited for UNT!

  11. Uh, we pay ours $2M on a $500k tv deal. I’m sure smu will figure it out.

  12. Who gives a sh!t?

  13. No. But the post-Big 12 departure AAC is an upgrade from the post-AAC departure CUSA.

  14. I've heard from another SMU guy that we are in. If true, congratulations to everyone. And thank you to Wren and the administration for making this happen.

  15. CONGRATULATIONS GUYS! So much for the SMU block theory. It’s been zero secret that Sun Belt and USM and Marshall have been talking for months. They’ve got their landing spot. Question is does anyone else in CUSA have a landing spot.

  16. UNT is a solid addition to the AAC. I'm unsure about the decision by Aresco to expand the conference to 14 but I'm sure he's been told by ESPN this is the combination of schools that make the most sense. From a revenue distribution perspective this is going to be interesting. I'm thinking 1-1.5m per school range.

  17. Ehh, for those worried about teams leaving the AAC, they still have to have somewhere to go. Memphis is the only one I see likely to get an invite to another conference in the near future. I'm not sure what people think our options actually are, though, as far as "teams we wanted to play". Big 12 and SEC aren't inviting us any time soon. Have Tulane and Tulsa really been that high on our list? We already play SMU yearly, and even if they go, which I doubt, they'll still likely want to continue to be a non-conference opponent. And all our SBCUSA friends are still out there for scheduling as well. I mean, I would've preferred taking our nearest neighbors to the MWC as well, but AAC has a better current deal with better distribution, even with the massive cut they're about to take. You simply have to be aggressive and make the best move you can AT THE TIME. Aresco has done a much better job for the AAC than our conference leadership has done for us, so IF this happens, I'm on board. If you're looking for stability in the current or near-future college football landscape, prepare to be disappointed.

  18. I feel the same way. But I am very grateful we have options outside of staying in CUSA.

  19. I'm standing down. I'll be at the Liberty game. Lets focus on joining the AAC in 2023, and let Wren deal with Littrell on his timetable. We have a positive situation to consume our time now. 🙂

  20. Who cares what they want or think. If they don't like it, they can leave.

  21. Fans don’t make expansion decisions. If they did, we’d be in the SEC

  22. Wherever we go ( if we do ) we ditch the C-USA commissioner, which is a good thing...a real good thing.

  23. So does the AAC announcement come at just the right time to help bring in a new coach for UNT?

  24. The American is ultimately the best move for North Texas and its student-athletes at this time. This is fantastic news if true. Better conference perception without doubling or tripling our travel costs across all athletic programs.

  25. I won’t lie, I’d rather go to the MWC with UTSA. AAC has already taken their shot at attracting MWC teams and been told “no thanks.” MWC seems more stable.

  27. SMU doesn't have to approve jack. It doesn't require unanimous approval.

  28. Got a confirming report. Seems very real at this point.

  29. Absolutely. Get to keep the rivalry with UTSA going, Tulsa and Tulane are geographically close and we have history with them, SMU can get bent hahahahahha we're in a conference with them FINALLY LMFAOOOOOOOOO This is huge. This is gonna boost attendance at Apogee. The only schools I'll genuinely miss are La. Tech and USM. We got out of the gutter of college football. At least temporarily. Lastly, I don't know this adds up but I hope the timeline works out that year one in the AAC is with a new coach in his first year. Start completely fresh.

  30. Have fun in the AAC. These are the likely divisions. West: SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, North Texas, Rice, UTSA, NavyEast: USF, FAU, Temple, Memphis, UAB, Charlotte, ECU

  31. I'll take anything but CUSA at this point. This is all happening just in time to get a new football coach in place to hit the ground running in the new conference
    9 points
  32. I do find it kind of funny that a week ago CUSA wanted an alliance or merger with the AAC and the AAC was like, naw, we will just destroy you.

  33. ^This new conference is going to be fun

  34. I really hope we don't detach ourselves from you guys. I would consider it a mistake.

  35. The idea that SMU brings "nothing" to the Big 12 is silly. SMU has built a Top 40 football program under Dykes and is committed to facilities upgrades north of $150M over the next five years. Top 60 academic institution with a lot of ties to Fortune 500 in one of the largest cities in the nation. $2.3 billion endowment. Presidential Library. More alums of Big 12 schools live in DFW than any other metro area in the nation. I'm not saying SMU is a no-brainer. We certainly have our warts as a small private school with less than 7,000 undergrads but to say we would add nothing is dumb.

  36. You don't "apply" unless you know you're accepted.

  37. Leagues look at academics, location, overall sports programs and are not going to base a decision on what team is currently playing good football. Who cares what SMU does, unless they are the deciding vote. I am not sure they are totally opposed to a natural rivalry with a team that actually brings attendance to their home games. As far as markets, the new metrics is how many watch games either in person or media. My guess NT's following is immense compared to what SMU draws from their own fan base.

  38. If, and that’s a big IF, the merry-go-round stops there, then I don‘t see a divisional game that isn’t driveable or doesn’t perk up at least some ears for home games. Memphis (if they stay) is a big win for the basketball schedule, and Navy is a great football game home or away. Overall, a better conference than where we are.

  39. I don't understand this line of thinking that comes up from time to time. SMU was one of the worst teams in all of football for 10+ years and not much better for another 10+. We spent 1997-2013 in a conference not much better than yours. For a lot of that time TCU was also garbage. What field could be any more level? UNT had every opportunity to match or pass SMU and didn't have the administrative and/or booster support to pass SMU's incompetent administration and boosters. It's been level for decades and we have been playing you frequently.

  43. Shouldn’t this provide some pause for y’all who’ve already popped the champagne? The mere thought of us ‘C-USA move-ups’ makes the upper eschelon AAC schools hope to go MWC…. Shouldn’t we want the same thing the top AAC schools want? We’re in for an exciting week Mean Green fans! Buckle up! … except Littrell, he can go ahead and exit the vehicle.

  44. Once again, I said it last night. There was no reason not to extend SL after 2018. You cant fire him in 2019. 2020 was a covid year and we made a bowl and had an NFL ready wide reciever. There hasn't been an adequate window to let him go until now. Be patient.
