  1. Aune isn’t playing well, but I’m sure he’s as upset about that as all of us. He’s not the one getting paid $1.8 million to win football games. Cut him some slack.

  2. This isn’t a money issue, I know that for a fact. Our AD has told all the major donors he is not a proponent of firing coaches in season. He also said this after Benford was not renewed. He thinks the stats show that nothing is gained by getting an interim coach. So the effort is better spent lining up the next coach and working on conference affiliation. People can clamor all the want but this is going to be what happens.

  5. I believe we were ranked as in 1978, not counting I-AA. I was 6 years old. We have now watched a UT-satellite school start football a little over a decade ago and play as a FBS program for 10 years and get ranked. Whatever we did to piss off the CFB gods, I sure wish we could make amends in my lifetime.

  7. Here’s what I would love to happen: Bring back Graham Harrell as the new HC and play caller. We all saw the offensive dropoff after he left. Even Mason Fine wasn't the same after he left. Promote Patrick Cobbs to OC and still oversee the running backs. Steal Zach Orr from Urban Meyer & Jacksonville and hire him as the next DC. Zach spent YEARS playing in, and learning the Baltimore Ravens defense. The guy is smart, young, and would bring that Baltimore D aggression to UNT. https://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/report-zach-orr-to-join-jaguars-defensive-staff

  8. They should be ranked after this…after playing FBS for 10 years. Must be nice

  9. 1) Is this season going well? 2) Does it seem like the team has quit? 3) If the team has quit, is it a coaching problem with Littrell? 4) Did we perhaps overpay for Littrell, making it hard to let him go? 5) Is it Wren Baker’s fault Littrell hasn’t been let go? 6) If I state ad nauseum that Wren should let Littrell go, in every thread, will it make the situation magically better? Do these things work on a quantity of words system? 7) Are we happy in our current conference? 8. How does everyone feel about black uniforms? How about gray? If someone could just answer all of these for me, we could shut the board down for the next month or so until basketball season.

  10. Thus a reason to hire a coach in his 50’s (or early 60’s) whose had some over .500 in career wins success at a P5 school who is not going to want to load up Allied Van Lines & move after only 3 years in Denton (as SL almost did). Fry’s 6 years served us well. Post-1975 season, Rice U’s AD Dickey Moegle offered Fry the Owl’s coach’s job right after his 3’rd season at UNT, but Hayden turned down the SWC school to stay in Denton. I thought that a remarkable thing from Fry, but few others really seemed to in Denton. He had pissed off the nesters & boys downtown for being, uh, well, for being forward & progressive thinking Hayden Fry. Of course after reading GMG, how many of you were even around in 1975? I’m getting too old for this.

  13. The question is not why Littrell should be terminated, it is why should he be terminated mid-season. I would be more than surprised if Littrell is fired before season end. Again, the question is what would NT gain by terminated Littrell now. IMO, nothing; the team is not going to magically get better. It is my opinion that NT has a better chance of winning some games this year without an added drama of firing a head coach because of his record. If Seph was running an outlaw program or had personal conduct issues, it would be justified. Your above justifications relate to losing and the odds are not going to improve with another distraction for this team.

  14. I don't even think RV really hired/picked Seth, President Smatresk did in my opinion. RV was on his way out at that time and Smatresk was very involved in the hiring of Seth.

  15. RV hired SL, so go figure! Lol….anybody see a trend here?

  16. I don’t care for it to be a place for coaches to stay. I want our head coaches to get hired by P5 programs that can pay twice what we can. I want to see a new coach every 3-4-5 years because the last one got hired away for money we can’t dream of paying.

  17. Good. Glad to see those dbags lose. I don't know why they get excited at the start of every year? They typically return to mediocrity around mid October.

  18. Actually even though I bought season tickets I am not going to games this season for the same reason as last, The Virus. At nearly 79 I am one of the old wilder beast that the young lions easily bring down and kill on Nat Geo Wild. Regarding Wren, he was between a rock and a hard place in extending Seth's contract, and the buyout amount is not out of line when comparisons to other programs are made. I expect Baker to hire someone he already knows and trusts, and probably has worked with before.

  20. I’m a 20 year season ticket holder who will be on-campus next week for UNT preview day. My daughter graduates high school this spring. We will NOT be attending the football game after the event. I can’t imagine a better way to ruin an otherwise great day. Maybe we’ll be back for homecoming, but I need a break.

  21. Bravo to you sir for supporting this program through all these hard times. Take a break sir and please come back next year. Or if by a miracle they put on a competitive performance at one these road games come back for the home game following it. And if you meet Mike Jackson at a game mention to me you’re “long suffering” Marty from gmg.com forum and the first drink is on me. You deserve a break. And You deserve a competitive football program.

  22. Seriously. Enough. Just because Seth isn't winning, don't blame his boss. Every single sport at UNT that is school-sponsored has won a championship in CUSA since Wren took over except for football. Is football the most "important"? Yes. But he has given us a new practice facility, top of the line uniforms, MASSIVELY improved the Apogee gameday experience. Stop blaming Wren Baker for extending Littrell after back-to-back 9 win seasons. Anyone in WB's shoes would've done the same thing. That was not a stain on his tenure here. Seth Littrell is going to be gone very soon. The team is only going to get worse if we fire Seth mid-season. They're going to lose regardless. It makes no sense financially or for team morale to can a head coach midway through a season. None of the candidates who we could hit a home run with are going to abandon their teams mid season. We all want better. We all expect better. I'm tired of seeing people saying Wren is a bad athletic director. He's one of, if not the best, among G5 ADs. There is absolutely no reason to assume he won't take care of the football program and get us steered straight in the very near future, but please can it with the "I'm not going to the game because of Wren Baker" garbo takes.

  23. I think Bennett would be perfectly okay as an interim. I would not like him at all as a permanent hire. All we really need right now is someone who can tidy up the mess, tell these athletes we love them and will fight with them, then prep for 2022.

  24. UNT's reputation for being a place head coaching careers come to die is working against us. I'd rather lose a few to P5 programs and get new quality hires to choose UNT because they believe it can be a springboard.

  29. Well I think Wren is going to re-think those words if we continue to play like this

  30. I upvoted you on this because you’re right about UTSA…but I don’t blame this on Wren pounding it into the ground. He just can’t get the program to gain any traction. I hope he can buy him out and get his guy in here. But I am also of the belief that the UNT 17 might be so enamored with SL that he can’t fire him without the funds.

  31. I don't care who you blame but if something does not change, I will not renew my season tickets next year. This is my 18th straight year to have season tickets but no more if I don't see some reason for hope. My wife enjoys football but has only lasted through the band halftime show - no reason to stay any longer with the poor discipline and lack of effort. I had lunch today with two other season ticket holders and they are pretty much of the same opinion - no point in paying to support this mess.

  34. One of Wren's requirements was a coach with Head Coaching Experience. I would expect the same.

  35. Makes sense, but the flip side is fans getting fed and abandoning this program like many already have. This program already has a stigma of not caring and keeping coaches on because it is "easier", and something like this doesn't help. We real fans know that moves won't happen until the season is over but average Joe will probably look at it as carelessness and lack of ambition from the school and athletic department. Just look at some of the stuff being posted on the team's social media sites.

  36. I’ve followed this program since 1974. Seen some good & bad over those years. I’ve always stayed til the bitter end of games just looking for a glimmer of hope. But last night I left midway through the middle of the 3rd quarter. Right now I don’t know if I’ll muster the energy to go to the Liberty game next Saturday. First time in 47 years I’m questioning myself about attending a game.

  38. You accept whichever offer comes first from the AAC or MWC. The MWC news has been all over the place recently. First, two ADs speak out on the radio about expanding into Texas, then the MWC commish the other day states his preference to hold until they negotiate their next TV deal and that the TV partners don’t see any value adds currently available. We’ve been hearing expansion talk from the MWC for years now and nothing has happened. All UNT can do is keep investing in the program and not settling for mediocrity. That starts with getting a new football coach.

  39. Coach “O” is exactly the type of hire we need to make next. If not him, someone similar that athletes would like to play for. Please, no more “up and coming” assistants.

  40. I AM OUTRAGED!!!!!! I DEMAND CHANGE!!!!! (I can only assume the U-Haul truck is on its way to Littrell’s house now…or did I need a few more exclamation marks?)

  41. You must realize that you have not mentioned one thing in support of firing him right now. Do you not think Baker is capable of doing the things necessary without another distraction (interim coach). Littrell is not an embarrassment, for all I can tell he is a good person. You might call the program under him an embarrassment, but not the man.

  42. Well I’m tired of his shitty excuses You can only fire so many coordinators until you realize YOU are the problem.

  43. Actually not. Since his arrival in 2017, we have won nine conference championships. These came from six sports out of the fourteen we sponsor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Texas_Mean_Green

  44. Agree with all but there is one scenario I can think of where making a move now would be beneficial. Scenario: The New Coach is immediately available (Link: Lane Kiffin Leaving Alabama early to take over FAU) and Bennett is named interim head coach for the remainder of the season Pro's: Announce new HC and elevation of Bennett to Interim HC with the New HC Starting the morning after the last game of the season All players would be immediately put on notice that they have the remaining games left to prove their value to the new coach and earn an opportunity to continue at North Texas All coaches would also be on on notice that they have the remaining time left to prove their value to the new coach and earn an opportunity to continue at North Texas New Coach can begin recruiting immediately Current recruits/commits can have more time with new head coach to evaluate their future with the program New Coach can immediately begin evaluating and gauging interest of potential staff additions and have a full staff in place by Dec/Jan at the latest New Coach can identify what serious problems exist internally and put together a plan to fix the problems The program gets a head start in all recruiting, planning, and development phases going into next season Obviously dependent on new hire availability but there are advantages that should be considered by the potential new coach as to why they should leave where they're at early. FBS HC opportunities aren't guaranteed to come around again for any coach, coaches recognize that, if it's an Asst. or Coord. at another school, the head coach there should recognize the advantages the coach has by leaving early, and not only support but encourage the coach to leave early as it would be what's best for him and his new program; don't hold someone back from a life changing opportunity (this would also score points with coaches watching and paying attention). Competent HC's have faith in their staff and it would also serve as a proving ground for the next guy up on their staff and allow them to evaluate that individual for the remainder of the season and give them head start on replacing the coach who is leaving. Not sure if it would be considered a "Pro" but for SL, it would give him sometime to catch his breath, regroup, evaluate things he would do differently moving forward, spare his W/L record, and also give him more time to figure out his next move. I think he will always be well-liked and respected by the Mean Green faithful in the final analysis, he's done more good than bad, and in a way it would be a respite for him and his family to step down sooner rather than later.

  45. I just want to say I come in peace. Felt compelled to pop over and see how UNT felt after the game and saw this post. A couple thoughts. SL looked like he was miserable from the start. Does he always look this way? Like his body language the first drive was reflected across the whole game. Has he quit? It felt like all around from quarter one the kids went to business for themselves trying to make plays of any sort on the D to a fault. On O it was like there was no energy. It just kind of snowballed quick. All around, I just felt bad. For the fans, team and coaches. Been apart of a few teams where the kids were done with us and we were equally done with them. So I was just curious if that is what you all are seeing or if that is the norm under this staff?

  46. Don’t let Neal off the hook. I am not sure the extension (especially the size of it) was all Wren’s call. I think most smart AD’s at programs with resources to lure good head coaches aren’t rushing to extend a coach after just 2 winning seasons with no bowl wins or conference titles. (And remember was before the transfer portal blew up so you couldn’t be scared then that half the stars on the team would try to go with him)
