  1. I can feel it, someone is about to say some absolute BS like “we fought really hard at the end” or “Aune looked good when he wasn’t throwing picks” or “we’re gonna play easier teams later in the year” or “we scored 35, that’s improvement.” Don’t. Just don’t.

  3. I respectfully ask you not to feel bad for me. I had a blast, as did my son. The fans here were great and they showed great respect for our effort. It wasn’t a win. No one thought it would be. We outgained them, after gaining 112 yards in the 1H. Defense played well in the second half. And it really is amazing what happens when you keep drives going longer after the defense makes drives go shorter. They played mostly starters the whole game. Whatever you think of your team, their fans feel like their SEC team allowed a CUSA team to make them look horrible. Maybe they are, or maybe we are getting better. I feel bad for NT fans that didn’t come to the game. Don’t feel bad for me on Friday either. I look forward to being at Apogee. GMG

  4. No, I acknowledged it. That’s why I put the last sentence there at the end. I also agree on your indirect point though that we need to see some yards and points when the game is tied or we have the lead. Not just feel good for some points put up at the end of a losing effort.

  5. Nah, 2015’s team was much worse

  6. I thought our offense looked respectable when we were mixing up the pass, handoff, and zone read with Aune pulling the ball keeping the defense off balance. Those were our best drives when we incorporated all three, and that has to be the game plan going forward. Accuracy is still the issue for Aune. He needs to put the pass on player’s chest on the sideline. Early in the game Aune made a 2nd down pass to Ward on a hitch play and Ward had to go down and get it, eliminating the chance for YAC. We ran the ball next play and didn’t get the 1st, but had that pass from Aune been at Ward’s chest, he probably gets the 1st. He also threw a similar low pass to Roberts on a similar route and Roberts couldn’t get it. Even before Aune’s last two touchdown passes “inflated” his stats, he was sitting at 13-22 with 180 yards and 2 TDs/2INTs. That’s 59% completion and over 8 yards/attempt, which is respectable. I feel like he’s playing well enough to give us a chance in our remaining conference games. Is he good enough to lift us above our conference opponents? Not much evidence of that but he’s going to get a chance and it might be the last of his college career so he needs to make it count.

  10. I'll qualify it. Missouri is not good, period. Aune had wide open receivers that had to stop and wait for balls, The first INT was a terrible decision.

  11. I’ll take everyone qualifying how 300 yards and 4 TDs/2 INTs against Mizzou was actually an awful performance bc it was garbage time or whatever over people lying to themselves that Ruder actually looked okay throwing for 131 yards with 1 TD/2 INTs against an FCS defense. We want to talk about how this still isn’t going to be enough to turn our season around, definitely.

  12. In theory you can do all sorts of cool stuff. Consolidate the TV rights into a single contract to have greater leverage, consolidate the bowl negotiations, post-season event location deals. Set a base payment per team from TV and then eat what you kill for the rest. But it won’t happen. Let’s say AAC can get $3 million per, Sun Belt is supposedly at $1.3 million per and CUSA around $1 million. Let’s take the example of Memphis, AState and MTSU So do nothing Memphis $3 million, AState $1.3 and MTSU $1 Now if we consolidate TV and money goes up so it’s Memphis $4 million AState $4 and MTSU $4 Memphis doesn’t want that. The $1 million raise is offset by parity. It’s better to make $1.7 million more than AState and $2 million more than MTSU than make another million and have your regional competition making the same.

  13. I’m not going to go back and read posts from the first two weeks, but I don’t remember the consensus being that Ruder played well. He was inaccurate and couldn’t complete anything further than 10 yards downfield. There was hope that he had only been on campus a month and maybe he’d get better. But he did not play well.

  15. If anyone’s interested in some more recent UNT grads who made it big in music, Snarky Puppy is a massive modern jazz band that’s doing great things, parquet courts is a post-punk band that met at UNT, midlakes is a soft rock band from the aughts that did alright (and they own the speakeasy in Denton!), neon Indian is an electronic/dance artist, tobe nwigwe is a rapper, lecrae is a Christian rapper, and I think there’s a few others… feels worth mentioning some other more recent alumnus who did well with their bands too!

  16. The team's a mess but I don't hate the garbage time touchdowns. The game was lost. We still have seven games to play and some of those CUSA teams aren't any better than us. If Missouri had won by five touchdowns like UAB it would further demoralize a team that hasn't looked like they believe they can beat anybody.

  17. Have you watched many other games in G5? If you watch the games and don't read the published butts in seats, we are doing just as well if not better than many, with a crappy product on the field

  18. Until the top P5 programs break away and take the money with them most of the idiots running G5 programs will not even start pulling their heads out of their asses. Stadium after stadium across the G5, and even many P5 (look at the stands in Waco today) are empty. Fans across the country do not give a rats-ass about the teams their schools are playing. Truth is these conferences, and the school's Presidents and AD do not care about the fans.

  19. As we set here at 1-4 with 4 consecutive losses. With nothing to blame but poor Quarterback evaluation/development, lack of solid roster management, poor assistant coach hires and a lack of the ability to get team prepared for big games (or any game at the moment). We are just 5 sleeps away from our next game. We are double digit underdogs for the fifth week in a row. The thing that makes it so much worse is both our rivals are undefeated. So, I am already looking forward to the inevitable when Wren pulls the trigger, and we begin our search for the next coach of the Mean Green. I think the Job will be MUCH more sought after than it was when we hired Seth. The roster is much better, just very young in terms of eligibility. Football facilities are much improved. Also, North Texas has one of the largest football budgets in all G5. Not to mention it is located right outside of DFW. I am going to break my list into a couple different categories. I do want to add that I think there are several very talented assistant coaches on this staff. Would not be upset if new coach decided to hold some over. Hire a setting FBS head coach 1) Skip Holtz-La Tech - Hire one of the most successful coaches in C-USA. 8 Bowl victories. Head coaching record Connecticut: 34–23 22–18 East Carolina: 38–27 28–12 South Florida: 16–21 5–16 Louisiana Tech: 63–44 42–21 Total: 151–115 2) Todd Graham-Hawaii – DFW native. Multiple Successful FBS Stops. Relationship with Bennett. May be able to keep him on to finish out his contract. 5 Bowl Wins Head coaching record Rice: 7–6 6–2 Tulsa: 36–17 22–12 Pittsburgh: 6–6 4–3 Arizona State: 46–32 31–23 Hawaii: 8–7 5–5 Total: 103–68 3) Shawn Clark-App State –. 2 Bowl wins in 2 years. We saw one up close. Head coaching record Appalachian State: 14–4 7–2 Total: 14–4 4) Blake Anderson-Utah State– Had a lot of success at Arkansas State even though it seemed his assistant coaches were constantly rotating due to lower budget. 2 Bowl Wins 2 Conference Championships. Head coaching record Arkansas State: 51–37 38–18 Utah State: 3–2 1–1 Total: 54–39 5) Jamey Chadwell- Coastal Carolina- I am sure he will have P5 interest, but it is worth a call. Head coaching record North Greenville: 22–14 Delta State: 3–7 1–4 Charleston Southern: 35–14 16–5 Coastal Carolina: 25–17 14–12 Total: 85–52 P5 Coaches on the Hot Seat. I believe they are worth giving a second shot. Every year there is surprising firings. Especially now where at most P5s you must win early and often. 1) Neal Brown- West Virginia Head coaching record Troy: 35–16 23–9 West Virginia: 13–15 7–13 Total: 48–31 2) Scott Frost- Nebraska Head coaching record UCF: 19–7 12–4 Nebraska: 15–24 10–20 Total: 34–31 3) Justin Fuente- Virginia Tech Head coaching record Memphis: 26–23 17–15 * Did not coach bowl game Virginia Tech: 41–28 26–17 Go to The FCS Ranks 1) Colby Carthal-SFA Head coaching record Texas A&M–Commerce: 59–18 35–8 Stephen F. Austin: 11–14 4–6 Total: 69–32 2) KC Keeler- Sam Houston State Head coaching record Rowan: 88–21–1 38–7 Delaware: 86–52 49–41 Sam Houston: 69–22 48–11 Total: 243–95–1 Hire an Assistant Coach 1) Graham Harrell-USC Not much needed to be said here. He has been successful at USC. He is a TXHSFB legend. Is he ready to be a head coach? 2) Jeff Lebby- Ole Miss He has led some of the most explosive offenses in the country the last few years. He is a solid recruiter. Texas native. Think is offense is special enough he could lead a quick turnaround. Has worked under some successful head coaches including Bob Stoops, Art Briles and now Lane Kiffin. With all that said I am excited to see which direction Wren goes. I have faith in Wren and Jared. I’ll Hang Up and Listen. Go Mean Green.

  24. I haven’t gotten up to watch the last couple of games (they air in the middle of the night here) and I have never been happier. I don’t plan on watching until we have a new coach. I will continue my donations and season tickets bc I support my university and not one person, but I don’t need to exhausted all day Sunday to watch us get curb stomped repeatedly.

  27. Yes, and after our game with them last year I said we should hire him as our QB coach/ OC as soon as HBU’s little 3-4 games stretch was done. We had the spot open on the staff open after the departure of coach From Argyle. I just think SL is too much of a control freak (like most coaches) to have given the reigns over.

  29. I’ve long argued that leagues ought to consolidate their offices. One issue that comes up is Championship events. Fans far from the chosen site complain. Cities generally want a multi-year deal to give favorable terms. Easiest solution is to pick two sites and do a four year deal with each and rotate the conferences between the sites. But the reality is it is an incredibly long shot. Everyone is going to fear the other group gets favoritism on sending press releases and doing social media and official assignments. What happens if League A thinks the commissioner needs to be replaced and League B thinks the commissioner needs a raise and extension. Ordered realignment just isn’t happening. Someone is going to be mad and either block the vote or sue. Sun Belt tried to get this conversation going a decade ago and got told to go pound sand. Even pitched a limited time shuffle to deal with Covid in multiple sports and told to go pound sand because there were too many “we don’t want them as a conference mate” objections. Can’t imagine why Sun Belt would now scoff at the idea.

  31. Just for the record, I’ve thought Ruder stunk since the first time he walked out on the field. This is the most boring and hopeless North Texas team I have seen in almost 30 years of following this program.

  32. Qualify all you want. There’s definitely legitimate room to. I just think it’s disingenuous that the general sentiment is that it was a poor performance when it seemed the general sentiment on Ruder the first two weeks were that he was playing okay the first two weeks despite the bad stats. Not accusing anyone specifically, just seems given those were the seemingly consensus takeaways on the board that there was some overlap.

  38. I'm a fan of the College Football Belt, the national championship that's treated like boxing. You hold the title when you beat the champ and keep it until you lose. The belt changed hands last night when Texas A&M beat Alabama (insert Nelson Muntz ha ha here). North Texas has never held the belt. We had a chance in 1965 when we played champ Arkansas but lost 55-20. We had another chance in 2006 when we lost 56-7 to Texas. There is another belt where the Mean Green have acquitted ourselves better (worse?) -- the one passed from game loser to game loser. There was a five-year period where the Losers Belt stayed within the Sun Belt from 2006 to 2011. The Todd Dodge-led Mean Green claimed it on December 1, 2007, with a 38-19 loss to Florida International in the final game played at the Orange Bowl. We held the belt for nine games and 336 days, giving it to Western Kentucky in a 51-40 win on November 1, 2008. The Losers Belt has been in the MAC since 2019 and is currently held by Bowling Green State, so it may be a while before we get another shot. 40. I’ve been a fairly staunch supporter of Seth, but I think the air has slowly been leaking from his balloon when he turned down a Big 12 job. I think it affected him mentally more than most of us would ever realize. Yes, he makes almost $2 million a year at UNT, but it’s not about the money at all. I feel sorry for him. It has just all gotten away from him. Not sure if a 5 win season could pull him out of this hole, either. He needed to have his team at least compete with UAB. UTSA & Liberty could be another impending disaster. Jeez! Did you see the ‘Runners vs WKU last night?
