  1. I’m a product of vintage UNT ‘60s football and proud of it. The interlocking “stick” UNT has got to stop! NOW!

  2. Why do people keep reporting message board banter like it has meaning? I feel like I should just start a "SEC in Discussions with UNT" thread on reddit or something.

  4. Isn't it pretty much common knowledge that the MWC has no interest in UTEP ? Also, I doubt that SMU goes to another "equal" conference and pays all those fees to move west. UTSA can't seem to afford moving to the AAC. Would the MWC be any different for UTSA ? (that is a question, not a statement). Rice has plenty of money, but seems more interested in contributing to academics over athletics. Despite our struggling football team, UNT seems to check a lot of boxes for the MWC. I would say that UNT and UTSA would be front runners for the MVC, IF they expand. But, I am not sure about UTSA now that they turned down the AAC because of financial reasons (allegedly). Rice may still in the picture for the MWC. But, Rice seems to fit the AAC better with the other private schools (just MHO). Nobody mentions Texas State. But, I would assume they would be outliers at this point. I honestly like playing UTSA, UTEP, Rice, La Tech, USM and UAB. It's too bad CUSA wasn't advancing as a conference, because the regional fit right now is pretty good for us (I am still convinced Judy has something to do with the negative conference appeal). What a mess. I just wish the AAC would make their mind up already. I guess the same goes for the Big 12.

  6. What am I missing about people saying Oregon stole our look? They are first school I ever remember seeing with the wing that takes up the entire helmet. We were actually one of the last “bird” mascots that I remember doing this. Several high schools that I know of had those helmets before us. As far as this week goes, Missouri is wearing one of their school colors…ok.

  7. No they're not. Some writer just re-ranked teams from 1-130. In the two official polls that there are.......UTSA is receiving votes.....but are not in the top 25. https://www.espn.com/college-football/rankings They're having a good start to their season. But they aren't ranked in the top 25.

  8. You can't complain about our past schedules without acknowledging what Wren has lined up over the next decade...Most of the first 10 years at Apogee were handled by RV, who stopped trying to schedule anything after the great 2011 slate of Houston and Indiana. 2022- SMU and Texas Southern 2023- Cal, Memphis, and ACU 2024-SMU and SFA 2025- Lamar and South Alabama...I'll admit this is ROUGH and should be addressed. 2026- UNLV and Houston Baptist...also not great. Fingers crossed we get invited to the MWC and replace UNLV with someone more exciting. 2027- Texas Tech and Wyoming 2028- Army and Undetermined 2029- Baylor and Tulane 2030- Missouri, SMU, and Texas State

  10. The first day the movie hit U.S. theatres I watched it at the Hulen AMC off south Hulen Street in Fort Worth. It was fun to watch & see all the campus facilities & as Bill Mercer described our old lady many times—“venerable” Fouts Field. May she Rest In Peace. ••• This pic I took of Bill Mercer & Craig Way (a UNT grad & longtime UT Longhorn radio network sportscaster). It was at a Homecoming game in 1985.

  13. Plumm, Oregon used the winged helmet design before UNT did. Just going by the helmet histories at the helmet project website. Maybe you have evidence showing otherwise. If so, please share.

  14. True, the old el cheapo tape logo helmets look like shit. They're like those old New Year's 2000 Glasses that have no use, no value, but you've never thrown away. They may have some slight sentimental meaning to you but you really should never wear them out again.

  16. Side note: Did we lose our regular uniforms? Been running with throwbacks for a while now. We went from fun new unis every week to full time throwbacks.

  20. Mizzou fan here. Not really sure what to expect on Saturday. We've had a pretty frustrating season thus far: two losses by a TD to Kentucky and Boston College and then we were trounced (as you all noted) by a Tennessee team when we were a 2.5 point favorite. I obviously remember the game in 2018 I believe when you all took it to Arkansas and the punt return. Fun stuff. I have seen some references (here and on social media) to that game and honestly that really stings as a comparison. We beat that Arkansas team 38-0 and it is humbling to think our 2021 squad is being compared to 2-10 2018 Arkansas. Remains to be seen if that is a valid comp. I have to admit that I do not know at ton about the 2021 North Texas team. Or really the program in general unfortunately. That 2018 UNT team seemed pretty good. Dominated Arkansas, beat SMU. I don't know a ton about the apparent fall off since then. From afar, I really liked the Seth Littrell hire. We had a coaching change at the end of 2015 and a lot of folks were hoping that Barry Odom would bring him in as our offensive coordinator. Also I am a huge fan of Wren Baker. Definitely wouldn't have minded it if he would have been named our AD. I am cool with the hire we made though. Switching back to Saturday, we fired our DL coach on Sunday and just had the first press conference since then with our HC Eli Drinkwitz. He sounded like a 2-3 coach with a team that more was expected from. No depth chart this week because those spots need to be earned at practice today and tomorrow. That kind of thing. The media was looking back at the Tennessee game more than asking a ton of questions about North Texas but Eli mentioned some similarities between Tennessee and the Mean Green on offense. We struggled mightily with the Vols tempo on Saturday and he mentioned that you all hadn't played at a really fast pace this year but after our film from Saturday that we are preparing for North Texas to attack us similarly. Anyhow, I was thinking we were playing down in Denton soon but I got this game confused with the series we are playing in like 2029 or something. I believe we travel down there in 2030 so if I am alive and functioning well and stuff I certainly would anticipate being down there for that. See you all then.

  21. This morning, I received the "UNT Insider" email from President Smatresk calling attention to all the good things currently going on at North Texas! He also notes the greatest football movie of all time, Necessary Roughness, was filmed on campus 30 years ago. Here is a link to a write-up from the North Texan. You will see some familiar faces here! https://northtexan.unt.edu/issues/2021-fall/necessary-roughness-turns-30?utm_source=UNTInsider_Oct21Ext_link&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=UNTInsider

  22. This wisdom is from the great Matthew Brune back in the 2017 season when he was a young NT Daily sportswriter. Say hello to the all-white uniforms. These are absolutely perfect, and they’re better than most other all-white uniforms other teams wear because the green is soft enough to compliment the white without taking away from it. These uniforms are literally perfect, and it’s no coincidence the Mean Green led Iowa University through two and a half quarters. I don’t think I can stress how much I like these enough. Grade: A+

  23. For what it’s worth I think the vintage jerseys are cool and trendy. Vintage is very cool right now, and I believe a lot of current students who don’t care about sports find it neat and it gets them interested.

  24. You’re getting into color-specifics. I’m not. Are we going to claim the design, or claim the design with color scheme? I think Oregon came up with the design. Seems weird to adjust the colors and say “this is ours and you stole it.” But have at it! I won’t get in the way anymore. @PlummMeanGreen, I think it’s pretty clear: the color scheme is ours, the design is not.

  26. That's why I'm really liking NT's chances of joining the MWC: NT's president already has friends there who will likely advocate for us if he asks them to.

  30. Eh it’s a looney Marshall fan who claims media dude Chuck Landon said so on Facebook but there are no links or screenshots to substantiate he has said such thing and he’s certainly not said it on Twitter. There’s a poll discussion of who people would like to pursue if said is true.

  33. I thought MWC would be done after retaining CSU and AFA too, but in the last week two of their top ADs (CSU and SDSU) mentioned expansion into Texas. This was after announcing that they were keeping their 12 members. They entertained the AAC for the same reasons they are looking into Texas, they want the central time zone and to tap into the Texas recruiting grounds, for both athletes and students in general.
