QB... Aune will trot out there to start. If he wants to keep his job, he's going to need to be near perfect against this FCS defense. Ruder will come in after NWSt has already given up & look REALLY GOOD against a defeated defense in the 2nd half. Aune needs to understand his leash is gonna be extremely short VS SMU. Perform well, and he might just wrestle the starting job from Ruder. Turn the ball over, &/or stall the offense, it'll be Ruder for the rest of the season. Blair will likely be entrenched by conference play (game 3) and be an anchor on the line for a while. Looking forward to watching this guy play. He's going to remind a lot of people of Y'Barbo... just a mean mauler in there. I love the WR depth! I'm interested to see how Littrell uses Gumms as a H-back. Thought for sure he was TE all the way, lining up on the LOS. I'll be watching this for sure. Surprised Wood is getting the nod over Nixon. I didn't think this spot was being contested, really. Wonder if this is a temp discipline issue & Nixon takes that spot back next week? Brown beats out both LeBlanc & Hutchings?!? This guy is gonna be worth watching. Not a fan of Whitlock over Stout (especially in any man coverage scenarios), but everything else in the secondary looks good. Maybe Whitlock got better from last year. We'll see. EDIT: Thanks @Brett Vito for posting the depth chart for us!10 points

If we are starting a QB that is completely lost in game two then I might have to google “airplane banner”.8 points

No. Bean started both games and failed to move the ball against SMU which opened the door for Aune. I think Littrell wanted to just stick with Bean but he didn’t perform well enough to warrant it.7 points

I’ve said this before but the biggest problem last year was our QBs not being able to hold down the job. Aune was putting up big-time yards for a first time starter, then he had a nightmare half of turnovers and Bean lit it up. From there Bean struggled holding onto the job and was yanked a couple times. I really don’t care what the depth chart looks like as long as the position is solidified. If it said Ruder or Aune as number 1 now but they throw 3 1st-half picks against SMU and get yanked, it won’t matter that on guy was listed as the definitive starter.6 points

Then welcome, my friend, to the most boring time of the year! I'd watch anything about football at this point. Seriously... we are close to football glory. 4 more days! Suck or not, just want to watch my Mean Green.5 points

I've got absolutely no problem with Littrell naming co-starters for the first game. If one of them was head and shoulders above the rest, then I'd certainly hope the staff would be confident in going with one guy. It would be in their best interest (read: job security) to have a go-to-guy by now. The fact is neither QB has separated himself from the rest of the pack. There's nothing wrong with seeing how each QB does in Week 1 and let's be honest, having an FCS opponent out of the gate is the best-case scenario for seeing what each of the QB brings to the table in live-game action. Sorry, but scrimmages just aren't the real thing. The optimist in me thinks both guys have the talent to lead the offense, but in the end, their performance on the field should dictate who takes the reigns moving forward. Let's get some good work in Saturday and start the year 1-0! GMG5 points

Couple of notes: * Glad we have the Devil on our side. * Nick Gallo, backing up Brammer, is a name that came out of nowhere. Former Denton Guyer standout. * Our WR group is deep, deep, deep * Kropp at the Devil position is a surprise to me. * I like Wood starting over Nixon. * Stout second team but I would bet he is our 5th DB in special packages. * Like Gaddie at Safety. We need depth though with two freshmen backing him up. * Dillion Williams list as a sophomore, but is a true freshman. * Like the size of our starting D-Line. What has happened to Dayton LeBlanc?5 points

2001 1) We shouldn't take anyone lightly 2) This is a lousy reason to not take NWS lightly.5 points

We should now compare notes to those prognostications made during fall camp... ...and how about the amount of remaining eligibility left on this 2 deep? The only players with expiring eligibility are Torrey, Hill, Novil, Colvin, and Sanders.4 points

Gabe Blair being an OR with Kaci Moreka is a bit of a surprise as a true freshman but everyone had said he looks good in practice4 points

It's not even. The players it mentions never played for North Texas.4 points

Do you think Bennett’s hybrid defensive style is dictating some of your surprises? Wood looked good in the scrimmages and I see Kropp as another LB on the field. Stout will definitely rotate in on regular basis. With the depth, you wonder how many freshmen redshirt after 4 games.3 points

ESPN+ We also might be mentioned in the TV Guide, but I'm just guessing, because I haven't seen one in like 20 years.3 points

If we give up 37 to NW St., then Bennett isn't the answer.3 points

You all are making a pretty big deal about this. He knows his starter and you will see it Saturday. He will stay with his guy until the game is out of hand and then bring in #2. He will want QB1 to know he has complete confidence in him so he is not looking over his shoulder after every play. Just my prediction.3 points

I think that either quarterback we go with will do fine and we will score. The issue is having a defense that can be at least average. If the D is at the bottom of the conference again the QB will not matter.3 points

For all of you who are declaring that we need to PICK A DAMN QB1 AND STICK WITH HIM . . . you are probably right (and I agree with you). BUT, just hypothetically, let's say QB X starts against Northwestern State and does fine. Then he starts against SMU and looks completely lost, immediately turns over the ball a few times, and pretty much accomplishes nothing positive in the first half. Who feels confident in getting your rear on the record (sorry, Brett) with stating that you will not demand that QB Y play the second half and/or start the UAB game? I'll admit that I can make no such promise...3 points

Now I'm no coach....but this "Littrell is trying not to show his hand to SMU" angle seems a little strange considering they put 65 on us last year and beat us by 4 TDs. I don't know if tricking them and making them consider either Aune or Ruder will really make a difference...3 points

Sounds like you should stop listening to them.3 points
