The University of North Texas needs to be proactive. If UNT does not make a full court press, headed by our President, Athletic Director, and Board members, to be seriously considered for the admittance to the Big 12, I will be extremely disappointed.8 points

Pick a QB who can curbstomp SMU. I don't care if we gotta win 70-66. Give me the QB that gets us 70.7 points

It will still boil down to Coach Phil Bennett’s Defense because I think Coach Seth Littrell’s offense will be at juggernaut stage by the 3’rd or 4’th game. 6 wins minimum for this team. We are all conditioned to not embrace such news of improvement, but the last 3 recruiting classes & recent portal transfers will change that beginning this season. ___________________ Historical Day Today: It is the 50’th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr’s “I Have A Dream” speech. I was 12 & in Washington D.C the week before he gave his famous speech. We should try to embrace & heed the spirit of his speech now more than ever. Just my 2 cents.5 points

The 1959 North Texas State Eagles won their first 8 games including a 12-0 victory over the Wichita Shockers at Fouts Field in Denton. The Eagles finished 9-2 and played in the Sun Bowl. Star running back Abner Haynes finished 7th in the nation in rushing. Haynes and teammate Leon King were the first African-Americans to play college football in the state of Texas when they played for North Texas in 1956. Haynes went on to a remarkable career with the Kansas City Chiefs and his number was retired in 1988. His number 28 is also retied by North Texas. Digitally restored for vivid color, this vintage college football ticket stub art print will look terrific in your game room or office. read more: https://www.pictorem.com/453032/1959 Wichita vs. North Texas Eagles Ticket Stub Art.html4 points

NMSU lost to Tarleton State in the spring 43-17 and barely beat Dixie State. NMSU is playing a terrible team.4 points

How much of a shock would it be if Seth announces Gilmore or Drummond as the starter?3 points

Why even have a fan board then? The fun here is superstition, conjecture, well wishing, and hot headed ideas so big you could float to the moon on them. Basically we are a Ouija board of sports. Not a lick of sense but all fun until someone summons the ancient evil spirit of RV3 points

Defense will determine our success. They don't have to be great, just good. Our offense will be good regardless who is taking the snaps3 points

Didn't you say just a week or so ago that it was looking like Aune was a lock for the starting spot?3 points

Ha! I think it was in the recent GMG.com podcast? I can't remember for sure, but someone with connections/presence within the practices is saying Ruder has overtaken top spot.3 points

Lubbock Avalanche Journal reports the Big 12 is courting BYU bigtime and that at least 8 other teams are interested in joining. Are we one of them? Are we capable financially to make that jump? The Big12 needs to be pro active, IMHO. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/big-12-vs-the-world-conference-eyes-expansion-as-commissioner-stands-by-collusion-accusations/2 points

Annetta Ramsey wrote an article in Friday’s Denton Record-Chronicle about Abner Haynes and Leon King breaking the color barrier as the first African-Americans to play football at NTSC/ UNT. Abner was born in Denton, the son of a minister. When his father was made a bishop in the Church, the family moved to Dallas. Abner, according to the article, wanted to go to college and play football close to hone. He applied to SMU but was rejected because, according to the article, SMU did not allow students of color at that time. In fact, it would be another 9 years before SMU would admit Jerry LeVias, the first black player in the SWC. Ive always had a special place for Abner Haynes. Not only was he an excellent football player without qualification, but he attend North Texas and while he was here, my father was his physician. I think the time is long past that there should be a memorial to Abner Haynes and Leon King, hopefully while both are still living. GO MEAN GREEN2 points

Rice, UTSA, Middle Tennessee, La Tech, and Apogee. Now, if we were counting Sun Belt stadiums that number would climb a bit2 points

Let’s not use fan board opinions as our basis for confirming team news. In his recent interview, Seth said they were pretty much decided on a starter but were not ready to name him. Didn’t indicate at all which one it was.2 points

You lost me at UNT to the PAC…not one school in that conference would sponsor us. Hell, not one would sponsor anyone in Texas right now, except for maybe Texas Tech, and that is looking increasingly doubtful. We need to desperately understand our place in the CFB world. If UH, UCF, BYU, Memphis, Cincy, or Boise State can’t get invited to the party, not to mention the drop kick that Tech, OSU, Baylor, TCU, Kansas State, WVU, and maybe even KU just got, we have to realize that a lot of teams have fallen backwards towards us. But that falling back doesn’t mean that any of them care to actually assemble with us in a conference. Actually, they’ve shown us over and over that they don’t. Same as La Tech to ULM, same as ECU to those regional schools in Atlantic Coastal area. Until the lower G5’s in the SBCUSA recognize this, like the MAC did, we will continue this path toward financial suicide by increasing travel costs to play teams that don’t care about each other. That’s a disaster of a plan that should have been rectified already.2 points

Our offense was about 90% Darden and he’s gone and had success during times where we was getting blown out which was every game. I think people have a false sense about how good our offense was. Just my opinion2 points

UTEP's Oline has not impressed me. Multiple big hits on UTEP's QB by an anemic NMSU defense. If our defense has improved, that is a good sign. Otherwise UTEP's offense does look improved though. Hardison can make good, accurate passes if unpressured . UTEP's defense looks solid as well.2 points

They played the starters for the first quarter and Darden didn’t really play until the 3rd string came out. But he by far had his best game of the preseason. Had 3 catches for 35 yards with a long of 26 yards. He also had a very nice 17 yard punt return. In other UNT news, Hambone had a really nice sack and had some other good rushes. Definitely a good final impression to leave right before final cuts.2 points

I'd like to think that Wren and Neal are proactive enough to try. If the opportunity arises, the money is there, we can find it. It just comes down to is there a mutual interest.2 points

I'm pretty sure KU is in such a bad place that they'll be announcing Air Bud as their next quarterback. I have overweight 40 year old analyst as employees that could walk on at KU. And get a scholarship. In home Economics KU is probably hoping that the season gets cancelled due to the hiring shortage. They obviously still need a coaching staff2 points

As long as there isn’t a conflict with the OU game on 9/25, our contest against LA Tech will be our first watching party at Killarney’s for 2021. The OU game time is still TBA. Unfortunately the OU Alumni Association is also hosting watching parties at Killarney’s. If we can outdraw OU at Killarney’s this year, I’ll bet we will get top priority next year. I’ll find another location for the games where there is a conflict.2 points

It is funny that one day all of the college football sports writers and rag mags were saying that North Texas was in the outhouse! Now all of the same people are saying that North Texas will win CUSA, and are heading to the penthouse! Amazing !!! Talk about changing a horse in the middle of the stream! zi expect many North Texas fans will be changing their minds about North Texas football this season!!! Go Mean Green!!!2 points
