  3. Be careful posting that kind of positivity around here. We have some who seem to survive on a steady diet of a lack of faith (and we wonder why more people don’t attend games…with those that do “support” us being so negative and clearly the best salesmen).

  4. Every single year - I come in thinking we have all the tools but need to just use them. I do not know I do that to myself. Then, in the second game of the season, I convince myself that HBU, Incarnate Word or ACU is actually going to kill us like PSU did. Eventually I settle into my ability to just focus on play of individual players and root for them to have a solid season... I spend a ton of money on this hobby of North Texas football. Sometimes I question why and don't want to succumb to some sunk cost logic. But then the season is over, I get bored during the post basketball, pre-football period, I get a letter telling me that I need to buy or else I am going to lose all of my sunk cost club seats... and then I am back on the vicious cycle again. Why can't we win CUSA this year? It's just the CUSA. We can. Why not? Sure - right now - we can win this. Let's do it.

  6. https://247sports.com/Season/2021-Football/CollegeTeamTalentComposite/?Conference=C-USA Our roster comes in at 5th in the conference. Under Littrell we have been: 2016 - 10th 2017 - 12th 2018 - 8th 2019 - 7th 2020 - 6th Shows the impact 3 straight top recruiting classes will have on the roster. While we had more success when our roster was ranked lower, the last few years our scores have been bumped up by freshmen who weren’t actually seeing the field. Now those guys are older and our ranking here is being propped up by juniors, sophomores, and freshmen.

  9. Conference USA: North Texas over Western Kentucky North Texas is a team I expect to surprise a lot of people this year. Admittedly, the Mean Green were a disappointing 4-6 last season, and a putrid 4-8 the year before. But Seth Littrell has coached some very solid North Texas teams before, accumulating back-to-back nine-win seasons. With a lot of returning production on both sides of the ball, I like North Texas to emerge in a competitive conference with no clear standout. Western Kentucky is a solid team, with winning records in conference play the past two seasons. I think Florida Atlantic is the biggest challenge in their division, and the Hilltoppers get them at home, so 6-2 should do the trick for clinching a title game berth. However, I think the Mean Green are the superior team in the matchup, and I’ll have them complete my mini-Cinderella prediction with an unbeaten C-USA run. read more: https://ndsmcobserver.com/2021/08/college-football-conference-championships-prediction/

  10. This doesn’t surprise me at all. Honestly, the only people this should shock are the members of the “I judge quarterbacks by how they act on the SIDELINE, but hope they can also play” crowd

  11. We would like to reach out to our mean green neighbors north of dfw for their help for this worthy cause. This morning I was made aware of a campaign to raise money for Mustang Junior Defensive Tackle DeVere Levelston's mom who is in stage 5 kidney failure. Please consider donating to their GoFundMe campaign. Also, please consider voicing your support on the thread located here: http://www.ponyfans.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=89932 https://www.gofundme.com/f/z2j3g9-help-my-mom-find-a-kidney?member=13411011&sharetype=teams&utm_campaign=p_na+share-sheet&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=customer

  14. I’m sure several FBS schools would be happy to have either. We may need both of them before it’s over with. Yet it’s the entire Mean Green receivers corp who really excite me (along with our offensive line). The 6’5” Georgia Bulldog 4 star transfer receiver (Bush) is really going to be interesting to watch. (Just lob a pass & watch him jump up 6 feet to catch it). Honestly, I can’t wait to watch pre-game drills next Saturday with what I anticipate could turn out to be a decent football team. I will have my binocs on Phil Bennett during some of the game just to see his body language a la his days at Baylor. If he’s not cussing a bunch that means our defense is probably doing fine. 🦅❇️🦅

  18. I received this note from President Smatresk today. A few of us will remember Jitter Nolen and his emphasis on improving both academics and athletics at North Texas. I thought he was an excellent president. Friday, Aug. 27, 2021 Dear UNT Community, I am saddened to share the news of the death of Calvin Cleave 'Jitter' Nolen, who served as university president from 1971 to 1979, a period of tremendous growth and progress for North Texas. He died Aug. 13 at age 96 and flags will be flown at half-staff in remembrance. During President Nolen's eight years at North Texas, enrollment rose 11% and the budget increased 66%. Our campus grew significantly, with construction completed on Wooten Hall, the Art Building, the Coliseum, the General Academic Building, and the Sullivant Visitor Center, which is now the Sullivant Public Safety Center. Our University Union also was expanded, construction began on the Physical Education Building and a south wing was added to the Music Building. President Nolen was considered one of North Texas' most personable and active presidents, and someone who helped us expand our reach into the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. In 1975, the Texas Legislature placed the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth under the university's Board of Regents and Nolen served a dual role as president of TCOM, known today as the UNT Health Science Center. He worked hard to move North Texas from "good" to "great" and programs established during his time include the School of Community Service, the Intensive English Language Institute, and the computer science department. His hire of Hayden Fry as football coach and athletic director also led to winning seasons for the Mean Green football team. It has been 50 years since President Nolen joined the university family and because of his leadership, we continue to transform our students' lives. Please keep President Nolen's family in your thoughts as we remember his legacy. Respectfully, Neal Smatresk UNT President

  19. As long as there isn’t a conflict with the OU game on 9/25, our contest against LA Tech will be our first watching party at Killarney’s for 2021. The OU game time is still TBA. Unfortunately the OU Alumni Association is also hosting watching parties at Killarney’s. If we can outdraw OU at Killarney’s this year, I’ll bet we will get top priority next year. I’ll find another location for the games where there is a conflict.

  26. This list was compiled 2 years ago so I don’t think much would have changed with all these stadiums in 2 years. Wouldn’t some of us like to meet the one(s) at UnderDogsDynasty who picked a half empty photo of Apogee Stadium for this feature?🙃 Also, their critics taking a swipe at UNT tailgating will make some wonder just when the UDD staff were even there to pass their most questionable judgement on our tailgating, too. (Did they just look at a photo of “The Hill” 4 hours before Tailgating began or what)?😆 (So........just win)?😊 🦅The photo below (& others similar online) were available when UDD’s Stadium article first came out. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.underdogdynasty.com/platform/amp/2019/6/6/18536105/c-usa-football-stadiums-ranked-1-13-fiu-football-uab-utep-marshall-fau-la-tech-utsa

  31. I definitely agree w/ the flex scheduling option. Create a larger conference, maybe have your first 6 or 8 games be hard-scheduled, then go with a soft-schedule that allows the top teams to play each other and improve their strength of schedule. Unfortunately, I haven't heard of this actually being considered in our conference or any G5 conference for that matter.... It would be great to create an alliance between the remaining G5 conferences to have this flex/soft scheduling.

  33. I think your decision is spot on, for real. If I caught the covid and had antibodies, it would give me pause too. I THINK I would ultimately get the vaccine ... and definitely when the requirements kicked it, I would. But, it would definitely give you space to make the decision in a more laid back situation. That's great. I hope the UNTLifer and the other non-vaxxers do this study. The more information the better.

  34. Thank you and sort of. It is a bit more modernized than that. You’ll receive a text message, possibly an email if that is your preference but I don’t recall. I just know I get the texts. This survey was big in my vaccination decision, if I had tested negative for antibodies, I fully intended to get vaccinated immediately thereafter. The coaches and cops dying finally got my attention enough to stop dragging my feet.

  35. I encourage each and every one of you, vaccinated or not, to participate in the Texas CARES Antibody study. It is a great free way to check your antibody status presently and over time. https://sph.uth.edu/projects/texascares/

  38. So confused about why the reaction here is to reject this projection outright. I mean, the URL "gomeangreen" does appear to suggest support of the program. Looking back at last year, there seem to be two clear areas that a movement toward league average would go a long way toward improving the possibility of a division title Long Scrimmage Plays Allowed 2020: 125th in FBS in 40+ yard plays allowed (Source: http://www.cfbstats.com/2020/leader/national/team/defense/split01/category30/sort04.html ) Turnover Margin/Game 2020: 108th in FBS I tend to think the author has identified a division without an obvious pick and then looked at recent recruiting and landed on the Mean Green as his choice until they prove it incorrect, I'm going to join him in anticipating this outcome for our squad

  39. Don’t know if or how hard he tried but it’s weird to me he didn’t find an FCS HC job and prove himself there. His resume isn’t good enough to get an FBS head gig now.

  40. Well, for what it's worth, his other picks are pretty vanilla. It's not like he's just making ridiculous upset predictions all over the place.

  41. So he committed after we finished back-to-back 4 win seasons, posts regularly to social media about his excitement for being a part of the Mean Green…and we think this season will be the deciding factor? Sure, that tracks.

  44. Probably not but I know South Carolina was drawing 80k back in the 90s and 00s when they were bad. They still sell out during lousy seasons. But definitely the exception. My point was attendance isn’t driven by message board “negativity”.
