A lineman from Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Atterbury played for OSU head coaches Floyd Gass and Dave Smith in the early 1970s and earned a reputation for his relentless effort before an injury ended his playing career. As a high school athlete, he was a standout in football, wrestling and track, earning all-state honors on the gridiron. From OSU, he went on to become a respected football coach with a 48-year career that included stops at high schools in Big Spring, Texas; Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Tyler, Texas; Liberal, Kansas; and Ada, Oklahoma; as well as time at the collegiate level with North Texas. Ruder has all but immediately started Fall practice already listed as co-#1. He for certain has impressed somebody as his rise on the depth chart is very impressive. Most any FBS G5 football program would be happy with either of our co-#1’s. Just a gut feeling, but I do believe Ruder will be the outright starter by game #3. 🦅

I have to say that, when you weigh everything, I don't understand all this opposition to getting vaccinated. Sure it's a personal choice. Although most people are fine with requirements that children be vaccinated for measles, etc. to attend school. But what really is the issue with getting jabbed? The way I see it, the more people who get vaccinated the sooner we can treat this as a bad flu as @SteaminWillieBeaminsaid and move on from masks, social distancing, and the rest of the "new normal" Covid crap.

As for studies that only take the post vaccination months into account (March-July) when looking at hospitalizations (and thus will sway the vaccine 'hesitant') - just released: https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7034e2.htm 90% effective at keeping people out of the hospital. In Alabama, just read that of their 800 covid icu patients, 12% are vaccinated. No data on the type of patient that is (co-morbidities). Had more people vaccinated, the ICUs would not be filled. It's really that simple. Then we really could treat this like a bad flu and stop with this "come and take it" macho madness.

I don't get why you deniers don't get it. I really don't. No hospital system is *ever* designed to be filled to capacity by one disease. Filling up the system and resources to combat one disease immediately makes everything else more deadly. The whole "your body is already efficient at not dying - it only kills the weak" logic only applies if those people are getting sick and not going to the hospital and clogging up the whole system. If that were the case though, we'd see a lot more deaths and not so many recoveries. So that 90% stat you are throwing out there would be lower.. by quite a bit. There are 73 kids in the ICU right now - in Dallas. That is *all* of the ICU beds. That is real. if your kid has a nasty bike wreck, hits their head, passes out and has some bleeding on the brain ... well... they are going to be sitting in the ER waiting around and not getting the ICU treatment at the top facility. Why? Partly because of the freedom covid caucus, but also RSV is terrible right now too. A mask would help with that too. However, this is not make believe. Life measurably gets more dangerous without a functioning health system. Also - I've been telling you that percentages of beds available does completely make sense either. You should only look at total bed available. For instance, at the hospital I know best, it was reported they had 5% of ICU beds available... but in reality it is only 1 bed. 1 bed. You have a heart attack while jogging in this heat? You need that ECMO machine that is normally available? good luck, it is definitely taken already. Your chances of survival just got lowered by someone that is unvaccinated. I can say in complete certain terms that the only people in hospitals are unvaccinated or break throughs on older vaccinated people that have major co-morbidities (cancer, COPD, etc). It is not number manipulation. As for the definition of 'vaccine' - it is absurd to try to debate it. it is like Clinton arguing what "is" is... Vaccines do not provide complete immunity, that is not how it works. No one will claim it does or always can. It is provide enough immunity to stop community spread and kick start herd immunity that ultimately will squash the virus. Flu vaccines are a perfect example. But some dolts will try to argue that 'boosters' mean that those vaccines aren't vaccines. Which is just pure idiocy. You want to hand the job to Ruder before he proves himself here because of who he backed up at UNC and his 247 rating and then you act like anybody knew Mason was going to be anything at North Texas before his first game? Mason had one, ONE, FBS scholarship offer so don’t sit there saying we knew we had depth because nobody knew what Fine would become at that time.

Cheers pal. Like I said before, despite Aune's #'s last year, I was pretty critical of his play. Ideally he's going to get better in year 2. This bodes well for UNT football. And Ruder hasn't played meaningful football since 2018, that's my apprehension on him. On paper, he checks off all the boxes & he's already put himself squarely in competition to start day 1 which is very impressive. This also bodes well for UNT football. You may feel strongly, and that's fine. I actually like it. I just don't have that same conviction. Many here are turning the heat up on Littrell, myself included, but I'll still trust his judgement on who he thinks moves his offense best. Whether that's Aune over Ruder, or vice versa, so be it. Either way, I expect QB play to improve from last season despite losing Darden.

I want to apologize for the last few days, I could have used better tone, and my passion for this team can sometimes be interpreted as being an AHOLE! I love what Aune did for us last year, and will praise him for it, but he was never the long term answer, the videos of practice continue to show he clearly isnt better than Ruder. Which is good! We want our star QB transfer to be better than Aune. Thats what we should be hoping for is that the next guy is better than the last guy. Like I said, unless Ruder has a serious melt down game one, he should be the starter the entire season.

I don’t know why people keep bringing up this possibility. If this situation happens there’s no scenario where it comes from a good thing. Doesn’t mean Ruder can’t come in and play well but I don’t see replacing your quarterback a quarter into the season as a good thing. Here’s the scenarios- Aune plays so bad he has to be replaced- not good SL can’t make up his mind so he plays it safe and starts Aune only to replace him- not good SL can’t pick a damn quarterback and keeps switching-not good Neither are good- not good Ruder isn’t a true freshman like Fine was. Transferring in and starting the first game happens ALL THE TIME. This whimsical “Oh we’ll just put in the other guy” is…you guessed it, not good. Edit- Tried to fix it but Plumm said Ruder would be the starter by game three.

Oh. Well, nothing gets by you. You got me. I truly believe in my heart of hearts that Austin Aune is MOST DEFINITELY better than Mason Fine. No one will ever convince me otherwise. Never Jace Ruder. We need to go ahead and clear out the #1 spot in all of the record books because by 2025, Aune will be #1 in all Passing stats. Heck, let's be perfectly honest: he's proven he's so good, Lance Dunbar needs to watch out for his rushing records and Jaelon his receiving records as well! Also, I not only think Torrey should start over Adaway, but I also think if Adaway sees the field over Dawson Nobriga, Littrell should be fired on the spot. Adaway is clearly a garbage RB. I dunno what he's even doing in a FBS uniform. JASON PIRTLE WILL SET THE SINGLE SEASON RECEIVING RECORD IN 2021!!!1!! BOOK IT. (Don't worry though, Austin Aune will promptly break that record in 2022 when he realizes he doesn't have a receiver nearly as good as Pirtle, and just throws passes to himself.) You are talking about Conference USA here! Where everyone has crap QB play. I am glad you love that our Qb is one of the least craptastic guys in the conference, but he is also 30 years old. He was never the answer. Aune was a fill in because Bean was a failure. Nothing more and nothing less. If you thought Aune was good last year, JC imagine what Ruder could do in Conference USA! He could set passing records! Conference USA are a bunch of chumps compared to what he has seen in live action. Again, he lost his Job to Sam Howell! You know the Sam Howell who is going to be the first pick in the draft next year? You act as if Ruder lost his job to some trash player in some trash conference. Choosing to start Aune over Ruder, would be like choosing to start Aune over Buechelle. Ruder out of HS was the 15th ranked dual threat QB in the nation. The dude will ball here. We should be thanking God that Ruder chose us over someone else.

This is the maddening part. Anyone who refers to it as “the jab” (I dunno where that term came from, but I’m gonna assume the science heavy-hitters we all can trust like OAN, Newsmax, Brietbart, drudge, etc…) are usually the first to try & use their newfound epidemiological brilliance to undercut the efficacy by bringing up infection rates of those who have been vaccinated… but shove their heads all the way in the sand when differentiating those who are taking up all the ICU beds & ventilators (re: most of the ones who are dying). They simply refuse to see it & would rather roll the dice based on “my buddy’s brother had it & he said it was like a little cold.” Everyone handles it differently! I have a friend who is very obese get it & come out with flu-like symptoms & no hospital stay. My sister had a friend she often ran with (very health-conscious/fit with no pre-existing conditions) pass away from it. You never know how deadly it will be from person to person. Please Mean Green faithful, our fellow alumni brothers & sisters, who have not yet been vaccinated…. I care for you. Don’t risk your life, or the life of someone you love, & get vaccinated! PLEASE!
