  1. No thanks. I would rather enclose the wing than add a grass hill or something. I personally like the wing, it makes Apogee is more unique stadium. I mean most G5 stadiums have that one spot in the stadium that’s not full all the time (section facing the press box at SMU) If we were to ever get rid of it, do something that makes it different but not less. Less capacity makes it look not good on paper and would put us at the bottom half of capacity.

  2. So I'm a little bit of a stadium nut in all sports. I don't have money and i don't have power at the university. And this is obvious that I'm bored and can't wait for the season. But I can't help but think... how cool would it be if we had a berm instead of the giant wing? Schools such as Wake Forest, Baylor, Missouri and even SMUt have added them and they're so nice. Personally I am just not a fan of the wing in the north endzone either. I dont think it looks tacky or anything but I don't have any emotional attachment to it as being a "cool" part of a 10 year old stadium. It's not like they can just wipe that out though and taking out the entire south endzone of seating removes like 10k seats. But it's never full unless we're playing Houston or SMU or somebody local and/or we're winning. Even the LA Tech and SMU games in 2018 didn't get the wing full to the top. Regardless of whether it's in the north or south endzone... Give us grass! I mark this the official petition to expand seating on the visitor side and put in a berm under the scoreboard. Thoughts?

  6. 3 cheers (& a Fletchers corny dog) for DG. 🍺 🍺 🍺 Unrelated, but when the TV cameras are on the sidelines this Fall I wish the camera people would provide more views of the press box side of fabulous Apogee Stadium. Those shots have been too few in past telecasts.

  7. It's a start. When they signed Paxton Lynch I knew that was bad news for Mason. Hopefully, if Lynch sees playing time, he implodes like he did in the NFL. Otherwise, as others have mentioned, he might find a new home on a QB needy team.

  8. Nonsense! If you take down the wing, replace it with seating to form a bowl, increasing capacity. Move the scoreboard to the bowl end. Construct a berm with tunnel/opening where the players can come out onto the field. Just win.

  9. This is what I would want. The player entrance is cool but there's a way they could do it with a berm. Split it down the middle or something.

  11. Indeed but I think their commitment to athletics through the decades probably made a Fertitta type more interested in giving them money.
    3 points
  12. Yeah, realistically 2 of the 3 spots were already filled, and I suspect that the team really would like to see what Paxton Lynch can do... The fact that they spent one of their valuable practice spots on a 4th qb says a lot about how highly they think of him.
    3 points
  13. He will not be on the field when the season starts. The RR had 7 QB's at training camp including their starter from last year who was pretty good. Mason came in 4th in a 7 horse race. However one of the horses had been QB at Denver. I think he can play in this league but maybe not with this team.
    3 points
  14. Is making the practice squad one step below making the team ? One step above getting cut ? Does this mean he will not be on the field when the RR season starts ?

  15. Save you the time of scrolling: https://roughingthepasser.football/2021/03/13/north-texas-mean-green-concept-helmets/ Actually, save your time and don’t go to the site. These are Terrrrrible. The helmet template is bad in the beginning and it looks like they automated a process of finding school logos and slapping them on helmets. C’mon, who would have a flying eagle on a helmet flying toward the back of the helmet?

  16. Seems like they just struck out with a quality transfer. You don’t wait this long for a kid that averaged 6 pts. Hopefully he works out but I am disappointed; coming off a good season. Would have liked the last ship to go to a big to help elevate the program.

  17. Just found this video. The Beyond the Green series was the first & most comprehensive video on UNT’s IPF, but AD Wren Baker sheds a bit more light & (perhaps) new information for some in this newer one.

  18. Glad the subject of professionalism came up. I get really tired of people getting mad at him for not being a shameless homer. That's the job of the SID.................😎 And I like the mustache too.

  19. Yes, but the problem with our depth has been that we have only had 7 or 8 guys Mccasland could even play in tournament play. This year we have a chance to legitimately go more than 8 deep. And if Mccasland only wants to play 8, the guys beyond that at least should be capable, which hasn’t been the case. Jahmiah Simmons and Chris Morgan are the only players I expect to be non-playable come tournament time. Maybe Zephir, Scott, and Stone won’t all crack the rotation but I expect at least one of them to be playable come tournament time. They all can shoot and have good size, just a matter of how quickly they can get caught up to D1 speed.

  20. Great efforts by both guys. I realize from seeing that Carlos had a +7....he must have really fallen apart on the back nine. Because he was still in contention for a medal....about mid-way through his round. Carlos had a great first Olympics though...as he was in contention all four days. My guess is....when he got a little out of contention....his heart was just no longer really in it....hence the +7. But think about it this way.....the top 3 spots are all that matter....so 42nd is in the same boat as the guy who finished 4th. Sebastian obviously really did make his mark.....as he battled in the playoff for the bronze. These guys both represent their countries so well....and they both represent UNT so well. I wish the Ath. Dept. would try to have them up here for a meet and greet......if somehow possible.

  21. I don't believe many coaches recruit for the bench. Obviously, most of the players are going to be sitting more than playing; but coaches are primarily looking for that great starter. Also, few coaches are going to play more than 7 or 8 on a regular basis. NT is going into next season with only two proven starters: Bell and McBride. Osmane and Wright will battle it out for the 5 position. The pg, will come down between Perry and Browne. That leaves one guard position to be fought over between Zephir, Jones and either Perry or Browne. I just don't think any of the true freshmen are going to be factors in the starting five competition. McC just doesn't have a history of playing them. However, whether that is a mindset or he just hasn't got that level of freshman player remains to be determined.

  22. The support structure for the wing is steel, not concrete. I suspect that it was designed that way not so much to keep costs down, but to make it easier to remove and replace when it came time to expand the stadium.

  23. If they are this short sided and don’t want to take an AD from the “lowly G5” then honestly Wren is dodging a major bullet by not going there. They would be lucky to hire a Wren Baker

  24. 3:21 am CST: Munoz misses the chip in. The dream is over. i will stop tickering here. Didn't expect it to take this long anyway. Pan won bronze about 20 minutes later. It was a great ride and good advertisement.

  25. 2:27 am CST: First four have teed off. Munoz and Morikawa with awesome drives. C.T Pan in the bunker, Perreira decent but in the slightly thicker stuff. 2:33 am CST: Perreira at the outer edge of green with second shot, CT Pan with some magic out of the bunker about 15 yards away from hole, Morikawa about a yard beside CT Pan, Munoz another yard or two closer, about a ten yard put for birdie. 2:36 am CST: Rory teed off into the bunker, Matsuyama: nice shot down the fairway, Casey: hit a tree, in the rough 2:39 am CST: birdie puts: Perreira misses by about a yard, CT Pan just burns the edge and out. 2:40 am CST: Morikawa misses by half a foot. 2:41 am CST: Munoz misses and is a about 4 yards long and then holes that one for par. first 4 all on par thus. second group still has a shot at birdies. 2:43: McIlroy not quite on the green. Matsuayama misses the green too and is in the greenside rough. Casey is out of the woods but still has quite an approach shot to make as third shot. That approach ends about ten yards from the hole, which he will need to hit to stay in the playoff. 2:46 am CST: mcilroy approaches to about within 5 yards where he will have his par put. Matsuyama has trouble finding his ball, its burried that deep. The result is an approach that is about 12 yards from the hole. All guys in the second group ar in some sort of trouble 2:51 am CST: Casey and Morikawa are out, missed their put. McIlroy makes his put 5 Men remain. and will move to hole 10. Now they will play in one group of five 2:54: CT Pan goes first about 10 yards from the hole, Morikawa about 20 yards from hole 2:56 am CT: Perreira hits the rough, but has a nice rollout to about 10 yards from the hole. 2:57 am CT: Munoz is about 20 yards away too, pretty much same spot as morikawa. McIlroy has a slightly unlucky rollout and is also about 20 yards away. None of them has an easy put at all. 3:02 am CST: Munoz gets it to within 2 yards. Morikawa follows that exactly. 3:05 am CST: McIlroys put looks nice, but also stops about 2 yards short. CT Pan sends it to within an inch and a half. Perreira also about a yard away . On to the next hole (hole 11.) 3:11 am CST: Pan with a nice shot ends up in the slightly thicker stuff. Morikawa also nicely on the fairway, maybe a bit shorter than usual. Perriera far and nicely on the airway. Munoz ends in the bunker 😞 . McIlroy with a nice drive. Munoz is in trouble here. 3:16 am CST: Morikawa punches approach to within 3 yards of the hole. Munoz hits bunker shot with force it is un the edge of the green, about 12 yards from hole. Given where Morikawa is, heßll have to magic that in. CT Pan also punches it to within 3 yards. 3:19 am CST: Perreiras shot lands a yard from hole and backspins to about 7 yards away. McIlroy about 5-6 yards away.

  26. Let me put it this way. Mccasland’s benches have been notoriously short in his tenure. Maybe his biggest weakness has been the lack of depth on our roster. We were playing a 7-man rotation in tournament play, we were 8 deep the year before, and basically 7 deep the two seasons before that. To play for Mccasland you have to be able to play defense and you have to be able to hit open shots, unless you’re the 5. We have had so many roster spots taken up by guys like Jalen Jackson, Larry Wise, Jahmiah Simmons, Terence Lewis, Shakeem Alcindor, Abdul Mohamed, etc who Mccasland could not play because they couldn’t shoot/were complete liabilities offensively. This has been my biggest gripe with Mccasland. He signs these guys who can’t shoot, then is unable to play them because they can’t shoot. Zephir’s quantity on his stats aren’t impressive but he hit 50% of his threes and took a decent amount, plus made 16-17 from the free throw line. He has good size and he’s a lights out shooter. Obviously there is more to basketball than shooting, but he has the track record that indicates come March he shouldn’t be burning a hole on the bench because the coaches can’t trust him to hit open shots.

  28. I think Brint Ryan has that possibility. His tax and accounting company is worldwide and worth billions although not yet close to Fertitta but still quite a lot. Notice that the CUSA media days were called “Ryan”? He is a very impressive alumnus and loves UNT very much. Fertitta is a Born on the Island (BOI) and has been a major investor in Galveston which is exploding right now in terms of tourism And real estate etc. he just started up a new IPO tied to Vegas and gambling etc. I believe he has ties to the Maceo family which owned the gambling business in Galveston and now owns Landtry’s and many other successful businesses. You are absolutely correct in saying a person like Fertitta makes a huge impact if a conference like the Big 12 is looking for the right expansion candidate and trying to see if they have the support required to help build your conference and gain payoff spots in the future.

  29. Thoughts... Absolutely. It creates a more intimate, yet, relaxed environment. It also gets rid of that heinous, always 1/2 filled (at best) montractity of a seating arrangement that we call 'the wing'.

  30. I am certain I never said for them to go independent. Keep the brand intact and the brand is the big12, with or without UT/OU.

  31. Unlike you, I'm not trying to finagle the best case scenario for my university in the sake of fun. I'm being realistic, without taking UNT into account. It's not about what's best for UNT in this hypothetical conversation, it's about what's likely. And if you think for a minute the Texas Tech administration is chomping at the bit to send their football team down to New Orleans to play in a 1/3 filled Superdome then you're sadly mistaken. AAC pays out 7ish million dollars to its member institutions. That is laughable for these programs.
    2 points
  32. Congratulations! You've created your own worst case scenario! If the Big 12 expands by 4-6 and SMU isn't among them, the AAC will backfill with cusa teams not named North Texas.
    2 points
  33. My gosh, can you guys make a single post without mentioning SMU? And someone beat you to this joke, albeit worded slightly different. Also, SMU going independent would be idiotic. I'm not arguing for that. I'm asking about Texas tech.

Sounds like the coaches could see him playing the 2 and the 3 but also potentially 4 and 1 in a pinch as well.

  39. I hope he is a walk on, doesn't seem to have the career to earn a ship at this level. 6.1 ppg and 18 minutes a game last year AT JUCO.

  40. WR Jaelon Darden I’m including Darden – with a caveat. The rookie receiver has obviously impressed enough to be included with the starters and vets on field one during the first week of practice. He made some spectacular catches and looked great separating from some of the Bucs’ best defensive backs. However, Darden had a false start, some drops and didn’t finish his routes a few times. He’s obviously a work in progress and making more mistakes than Bruce Arians or anyone would like – but that’s what camp is for. This is where mistakes should be made and learned from. But the talent to be special is there. https://www.pewterreport.com/srs-fab-5-bucs-rise-as-saints-fall-5-stars-from-camp/#fab-3-5-bucs-camp-standouts-so-far

  42. That’s what I’d bet on. Especially if he grew so much in that year and was only a freshman... could see him being a breakout player for sure as he adjusts to his size. His tape was pretty good and he had nice court vision with some nice passes. May take a second to see where he’s going, but I could see him being a big part of the team with development as his career shakes out.

  44. These posts. again and again. We have tons of formers coaches and players. If an update on one doesn't interest you, is it that hard to simply not chime in? Even if you don't like how he left? We're all obviously fine with the Darden udpates, even though we don't follow Tampa and this is a North Texas board. Put me down for more Bean updates. I'm alright with hearing how the dude is doing.

  46. This would be a fun, regionally-aligned conference. Unfortunately, things would really need to fall apart before it would ever be considered by the more historically successful football schools on that list. Fortunately, it looks like things might fall apart faster and harder than any of us anticipated. Here's to hoping!
