  1. I'll get a lot of pushback for this, but here goes. For a lot of people, all is right in the universe when the University of Texas is dominating college football, particularly regarding the Big 12. The natural order of things is askew when the likes of Baylor or Iowa St. are winning and representing in a New Years Day bowl. When it comes to college football and the Big 12, it should always come down to Texas and maybe OU. That said, there is no question that UNT should be the Texas of CUSA. Oh sure, La Tech or maybe S. Miss can make occasional noise, but our beloved university should routinely be at the top every year in football and basketball. No other school can match our academics, facilities, location and leadership. Therefore, I hereby proclaim the University of North Texas as the flagship university of CUSA. Thanks to Dr. Smastrick (sp), Wren Baker and the BOR, we are well on the way. Shout out to Grant McCasland for what he has accomplished since his arrival. The best is yet to come! Now if Seth can raise our game, and quickly, we will have arrived. Then, it's on to bigger and better digs! OK, fire away. GO MEAN GREEN!

  2. If you mean top notch facilities and big coach’s salaries and all the shiny stuff (when compared to their conference mates) with nothing tangible as far as results on the football field then yes….we for sure are the UT of CUSA.

  4. The school he committed to wasn’t in that Top 10. Commits to North Carolina. This is good for us, since UNC is a blossoming pipeline for us at the QB position.

  8. ✳️ Tuesday 7/6/21 Update: Just added 2 new pics of the Track & Soccer Stadium & what I believe to be it’s “Light the Tower” Athlete’s Lounge. __________________ ⚪️️u🟠t⚪️—-Just as long as we don’t get too many “THEY’RE BACK” headlines when “they’re not really back?🙃 ✅ Yes, HunterGreen, we’re in “By God Texas” with more in our combined constituencies than any school around plus with the best overall athletic venues in CUSA & better than several in the AAC—with-more-on-the-way. ➡️ Just watch what Wren Baker will deliver with what I believe will be the most impressive Athletic Center/End Zone Facility combo in CUSA. Probably done in 2 phases, but it will ultimately be a beaut’! ••• My gut feeling tells me even starting with the grueling 2021 schedule we will start a run of multi-successful football seasons not seen since many of us were in our 20’s. We have all pistons running congruently with UNT leadership, our rich & famous giving in larger amounts than before & 8,000,000 Texans all within 1-1.5 hours from our campus knowing what’s happening up in Mean Green Country! It can’t get better than this!

  9. If memory serves [I am 78 so sometimes memory doesn't quite serve ] Arkansas left because gate revenues were evenly split between the home and visiting conference games. Their complaint was that SMU got half the gate in Arkansas but didn't bring any fans, and half the gate in Dallas when there were twice as many Hog fans as Pony. They won the SWC football championship their last 2 years in the conference, played in the Cotton Bowl against Tennessee and UCLA, and made considerably less money than Vanderbilt did coming in last in the SEC. Frank Broyles asked "what's wrong with this picture?" and bolted.

  10. Not from me. I agree 200%. Taking a cue from NFL Films, I’d like to call North Texas, “USA’s Team.” Now, make it so !

  11. When Arkansas was in the SWC they played one game a year in both Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston. When they moved to the SEC they lost that pipeline. Even if they got all the top players in Arkansas it isn't enough to compete with Bama,Auburn, LSU, and A&M in the SEC Western Division.

  14. Not a bad idea. Then the fans of each could talk about how they’re in the conference title game every year. 😂😂😄

  15. the Big12 need Texas more then Texas needs the Big12. I think any other conference would love to have Texas, sure the Longhorn network could be an issue, but could probably be worked out.

  16. As regards football, despite having the highest paid football coach in CUSA, our football program is sandwiched between UTSA, Texas State, Rice, and UTEP. I have had Club Hub season ticket tickets with White parking from the get go and decided this year to punt. I have followed North Texas football since my freshman year 1961 and will continue to root for them but from afar.

  17. Wouldn't Oregon be able to really take advantage of this? Why couldn't Phil Knight just pay the top recruits/players a load of money to work for Nike. He could pay 50 to 100 players six figures each and just use them for Nike. That money is nothing to him. Also, I wonder how long before we get our first million dollar college athlete. Probably won't take long. Also Michael Jordan brand and UNC. I would think their basketball program is about to get back on track quickly. Going to be so fascinating to watch... Here's the track and field stadium Phil Knight built Oregon: https://www.insider.com/oregons-270-million-nike-track-stadium-2021-3#the-university-contracted-with-hoffman-construction-and-srg-partnership-for-the-renovations-4

  18. On the surface, I have held a positive view of these developments but, in the small sampling that I've observed it seems to me there is generally an almost negative view of all this. I'm wondering if there might eventually be something of a public backlash toward athletes and the goods and services they promote?

  19. When Arkansas left the SWC that was the beginning of the end for the SWC. I like Arkansas football and basketball, that made our butt kicking in Fayetteville even sweeter. Are we scheduled to play them again in the future? If not I bet we don't play them in football for a while 🙂

  23. He is a walk-on so I would have been pretty surprised if the coaches put him ahead of a scholarship player. Everybody wants to be mad at this kid but as far as I'm concerned we avoided having a dude who isn't an FBS quarterback on our team and wasting a scholarship.

  26. I’ll mostly sit this one out but my one parting suggestion is to let this play out for a couple of years and get some sample to analyze what the effects are going to be. So many people want to Chicken Little this by giving a bunch of hypotheticals that we have no support on them actually playing out. They might, they might not. Let’s see some evidence of these things first. But this was always the right thing to do. If we want to talk about extreme examples, let’s talk about the ones that actually did happen as a result of the NCAA not allowing these things. Like the NCAA nixing GoFundMe’s created by student athletes trying to raise money for other people. There are many examples of the NCAA stepping in and doing ridiculous things like this.

  27. This would never happen. Texas is happy right now knowing that, if they can beat OU, they have a pretty nice path to the playoff. They want no part of playing in a, as the article title suggests, “stronger conference.” They don’t want to see Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, and aTM in consecutive weeks.

  30. A host of North Texas fans purchased tickets last season despite not attending games due to the COVID-19 pandemic to help the program. Other fans didn't purchase tickets but allowed UNT to keep the money from their seat donation requirement. I'm interested in speaking to those fans for a series of stories that will run next month. If you're interested in talking about going that route to help the program, drop me an email at bvito@dentonrc.com.

So I could not have been more wrong, they really did make a big jump. The Mean Green pessimist in me that saw us not win more than 3 games 9 out of my first ten years as a fan simply wanted to find a reason for us not to be successful in 2021. We went from 109th to 72nd in one year in power success rate, and went from 109th to 16th in stuff rate in one season, I deserve some crow for my post above. Here is an explanation of the OL stats and they are in order above, along with our rank in each category. Line Yards per Carry: For 2018, we are experimenting with a new definition for college line yardage based on film study and generalization. Instead of the ALY figure FO used for the NFL, this one is tighter: the line gets credit for rushing yardage between 0-3 yards (instead of 0-4) and 50% credit for yards 4-8 (instead of 5-10). Anything over 8 yards is quantified as a highlight opportunity, and credit goes to the runner. As with the pro definition, lost yardage still counts for 125%. (Garbage time is filtered out for all line yardage averages.) Standard Downs Line Yards per Carry: The raw, unadjusted per-carry line yardage for a team on standard downs (first down, second-and-7 or fewer, third-and-4 or fewer, fourth-and-4 or fewer). Passing Downs Line Yards per Carry: The same unadjusted averages for rushing on passing downs. Opportunity Rate: The percentage of carries (when four yards are available) that gain at least four yards, i.e. the percentage of carries in which the line does its job, so to speak. Power Success Rate: This is the same as on the NFL side -- percentage of runs on third or fourth down, two yards or less to go, that achieved a first down or touchdown. Stuff Rate: Same as STUFFED on the NFL side -- percentage of carries by running backs that are stopped at or before the line of scrimmage. Pass-blocking stats Sack Rate: Unadjusted sack rate for all non-garbage time pass attempts. Standard Downs Sack Rate: Unadjusted sack rate for standard downs pass attempts. Passing Downs Sack Rate: Unadjusted sack rate for passing downs pass attempts.

  38. Okay…now we’re just throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. I have no clue why you’re throwing OJ into this 😂 The post was about Bush cheating. I don’t believe receiving a used car gives you an advantage on the football field. Is that against the rules, sure I’ll give you that. Just don’t make the argument that the car gave him and advantage which means he was cheating. Reggie Bush was going to dominate with or without that used car. It’s a stupid rule because the NCAA is notorious for not following or selectively enforcing its own rules, it picks and chooses when and where. So in closing, a dumb rule enforced by a an organization that itself is bad at following rules.

  39. So, are we going back to a normal schedule of Thursday/Saturday with travel partners? I hope so.

  40. Ok, then put all Coaches on normal faculty member salaries. Eliminate the NCAA board salaries and make them volunteer only. You want to see people bitch, moan, scrape, scratch, and cry then take millions from these do nothings that ride the backs of all student athletes to their homes in the Hamptons.
