  1. I am embarrassed to say that I just saw this post...I should read more carefully. Thanks for all the kind words. I did what I could and some worked and some did not...the Psychedelic Sock Hop sticks in my mind as a complete fiasco. As some of you may remember, the game went into overtime or double overtime. So, when it was over there were about 10 students and the band and me..I have to laugh about it. You guys always made it fun for me and I loved your dedication to ole NT.

  3. Couldn’t find my last thread but the roster has been updated for incoming freshmen and with players’ new numbers. Some interesting new number choices. All of the freshmen we were expecting to appear are showing up except Running Back Signee Keith Jackson. Still May so hopefully he makes it just fine, but a little concerning. Also, the newer transfer portal commits are not on the roster yet (Tommy Bush, Enoch Jackson, Dillon Francis, Sean-Thomas Faulkner, etc.) https://meangreensports.com/sports/football/roster/2021?&sort=class

  6. Boyd was a good player and I believe a loss. As with many of these transfers, you don't know what the motivation is. Mitchell did not sign a grad transfer pg not to play. Boyd could have been recruited somewhere else, and Mitchell signed another pg because of that knowledge. Boyd certainly was not run off, she was recruited elsewhere or truly wants to test the waters. The positive is, Mitchell will recruit a good player to replace her.

  7. And many more... Jim Hobdy has given more volunteer time (with free banners, posters, flyers, etc) than anyone in the Mean Green Nation. Jim was UNT Athletic Promotions Director on a shoestring budget & was still able to get admirable results; and those were happening when winning records were hardly plentiful. Congrats on another birthday, JH!👌

  8. Going away? No. But there are undoubtedly less HS kids getting FBS scholarships across the country. Look at Texas State’s class. None. https://247sports.com/college/texas-state/Season/2021-Football/Commits/ Teams are losing 10+ guys to the portal and replacing them with 10+ guys from the portal. But that eats into the 25-per class signing limit, so they can only bring on 10 or so high school kids when they used to bring in 20-25. People continually overlook the impact everyone getting a free season of eligibility is having and are attributing it all to the portal. There is essentially one senior class exiting, split up between the end of last season (2020) and the end of next season (2021). After 2022 teams will finally have a full senior class departure. At that point they will have to replenish, not just swap out. Hopefully by then we see something in place so that teams can replace the transfer they lose AND still bring in HS and JUCOs to replenish lost Seniors.

  9. HS recruiting isn't going away. They'll have to fall in somewhere, at some level. Where do you think the transfers are originally coming from? Mars?

  11. Keith Jackson Senior has been tweeting a lot about his son and UNT, so I think that's fine. I also noticed the Murphy brothers now are 11 and 9

  12. Why would you assume it is a PWO? He already had P5 offers.

  13. Yep, here is another photo of the area. There is the curve in the track at the northwest corner of the old stadium. This curved portion of the old track is still there. It's a service road behind the NW corner of the Library.

  14. Are you saying Boyd was a grad transfer? She was not a grad transfer. She came to us directly out of Mesquite Horn. She was a true Freshman last year. This year Mitchell signed a grad transfer guard from Fresno State named Aly Gamez and she was a starter at Fresno State. She also signed Chloe Callahan a guard out of Canyon High School, a 4A program. She is an All State Guard who was also the state tournament MVP on the state champion team. She also signed Kendall McGruder, a guard at South Grand Prairie, a 6A program. McGruder is also a McDonald's All American. That's three guards that I feel will be an upgrade to N'Yah Boyd. Sure Boyd adds depth and experience, but I just don't think it hurts too much. Like Rochelle Lee left and I think it was because of the way that Emma Villas-Gomis came on at the end in my opinion. She ended up at NC A&T which is certainly a step down from UNT. I just do not see her landing at a program better than ours. I personally think she doesn't want to compete against the incoming talent.

  15. Jazion Jackson is pretty solid and will only be a sophomore.

  16. DEBBIE DOWNER: Bare minimum this kind of loss hurts depth. OPTIMIST: We are better equipped than normal to deal with this loss. RON BURGUNDY: If I were to give you some money out of my wallet, would that ease the pain?

  18. It's not the 4*/5* players who will be impacted it will be the lower 3* players. Schools are choosing to replace with potentially more "ready" players compared to kids who might have to work their way up the ladder. If the 25 per class rule does not change it will only get worse. Why do I think it will change soon - While the NCAA could care less about the G5 impact, P5 programs are losing backup players and are not happy. When the P5 starts asking the change will come.
    1 point
  19. Yup. Have to change the rule. Something like 25 spots for high school and JUCOs (like normal), 10 for D1 scholarship transfers. Also, if a team loses 20 scholarship seniors and 15 guys to the portal, if they went and got 15 guys from the portal they’d only have 10 spots to replace the departing seniors. Because of seniors getting an extra year this isn’t really affecting teams, but it will and the last thing we need is kids not getting scholarships because of the 25-limit when spots are available on the 85.

  20. Given the state of this year's portal, I think we'll get an apology for all of NCAA.

  26. https://meangreensports.com/news/2021/5/27/academics-academic-success-continues-for-mean-green.aspx North Texas student-athletes combined for a 3.08 grade point average in the spring 2021 semester, marking five straight semesters where they collectively earned a GPA over 3.0. The 350 student-athletes also posted a 3.1 GPA for the 2020-21 academic year.

  27. The NCAA is like the tobacco companies circa the 70's, they know they are f'd but they want to extend out their profits for as long as the possibly can. Sort of like Bill Clinton, deny deny deny and then emotionally admit and try to cut deals with your prior enemies to stay afloat. The NCAA is not going to rock the power P5 boat because that is what pays their bills.

  32. I think the issue was how he played the game not that he played it. He was committed to us but shooting out tweets to every P5 coach in America. He never acted like he wanted to be here. I don't think people take it personally, but I do think they got tired of us being his security blanket.

  33. I think she is leaving because of the incoming talent. Her playing time will probably dwindle and maybe she was told that so she could start looking now. You have a healthy Randy Thompson coming back along with the two transfers coming in and the high schoolers that are set to arrive. I don't think this hurts as much as it seems on the surface.
