(9). NORTH TEXAS at SMU – Saturday, Sept. 11 Travel distance: 41.2 miles Series history: first played in 1922 – SMU leads 33-6-1 and has won five of the last six. Where SMU is in the heart of Dallas, the University of North Texas is located straight north of the DFW Metroplex in Denton. While the two programs have never shared conference membership, they have played consecutively since 2014 and met annually from 1922-29 and 1931-42. They have future dates inked thru 2025. I guess I needed to look again - 2030 is the first game of a home & home. So I guess either this year is a one-off, or it's the first of a 2-1. 2032 at Kansas North Texas at Illinois3 points

I immediately thought of Duke-UNC. I did not know Houston and Rice were that close.2 points

See I like traveling, and I like going to SMU because it’s close, but I don’t like the L we’re handed each time. Maybe this year it changes?2 points

2030 ? By that time Chelsea Clinton will be in her second term, timeouts will last 90 minutes, and I'll be almost 80. Can we bring some big time program or conference in before I need a handicap parking placard ?2 points

Yeah, Brett! Another list item you can take off your list that you always beat it like a dead horse!2 points

I think this year was a one-off booked a while back by RV. The future contract was booked by WB recently.2 points

From ESPN. Jaelon is listed as one of the top 10 steals of the draft. Tampa Bay Buccaneers selecting WR Jaelon Darden (North Texas) The pick: 129 (Round 4) Darden's tape is pure electricity. After putting on nearly 20 pounds over the course of his North Texas career to reach 174, Darden broke out as a senior with 74 catches for 1,190 yards and 19 scores. He also added 23 broken tackles after the catch to lead the country. At 5-foot-9, he's going to be a slot receiver in the NFL, but that's not a bad thing when Tom Brady is the quarterback. https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2021/insider/story/_/id/31384252/nfl-draft-2021-steals-10-undervalued-day-3-picks-make-impact-including-two-bears2 points

Even better, it appears that we will have them at home once but three aways.2 points

I believe that both are some kind of offers that are still open. He hasn't accepted either yet. Both were posted yesterday; possibly back to back. If he gets a full ride offer from a FBS school I would think that he would take it assuming that both our offer and TSU's offer are PWO.2 points

Do note that this is to be followed up with "5 Reason We Will Suck."2 points

Darden is also listed as 2nd string slot receiver behind Antonio Brown. Media really likes him, and I’m glad they know about his talent now!2 points

I've never felt more like RV as I looked at this and thought... how will anyone know he's from North Texas?2 points

According to website “Over the Cap”, a fourth round draft pick should expect to sign a 4 year contract worth about 4.11 mil paying between $814-$733 thou per year, including signing bonus. If Jaelon can make the team, have a relatively injury free 4 years and not spend his money foolishly, he should be well on his way to a prosperous future. Don't forget to write, Jaelon. As a Bucs fan, I was hoping they would draft Brooks, Hambone, and Darden. Seeing them draft Darden was super awesome and then having them sign Brooks and Hambone later in the week is so cool. It will be tough for Brooks and Hambone but hoping they can both make the team. Luckily those are the 2 positions that they lack depth in and they tried out Brooks a few times this past season so they obviously like him.1 point

Looks like we offered him but he committed to BU: Scott Drew landed a transfer commitment from Dale Bonner a 6-3, 175-poud combo guard from Fairmont State, a Division II program. Bonner averaged 21 ppg, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals for a 15-5 team while shooting 44% from 3 point range. Bonner chose Baylor over Penn State, Cleveland State, North Texas, UNC Asheville and others. https://sicem365.com/s/9676/baylor-basketball-lands-explosive-transfer1 point

It is the same for all professional sports. You are taxed based on where the event is played1 point

Did you know though they are required to pay taxes for the games they pay in states that have State income taxes regardless of state residency. So each game week their earnings are taxed at the local rate in the state they are played I.e NYC, San Fransisco, Atlanta, Charlotte, Cleveland, Cincy etc1 point

MTSU gets in along with freaking UTSA that didn't even qualify for our conference match play. How in the world did they get an invite over us, UAB and even Charlotte? Makes zero sense.1 point
-
MTSU got the autobid because they won the conference. The others had at larges and there it is the rest of the season outside of the confrence tournament that caused NT to miss. UTSA (52nd) UAB (38th) and Charlotte (42nd) all have better Golfstat and likely also golfweek rankings than NT (67th). NT probably missed only by the thinnest of hairs. Among 10 and 11th seeds (i.e. the worst at larges) I counted 5 teams in the 60ies who made it, with San Diego as 66th being the worst one who got an at large. So I really think NT missed by the thinnest of margins, but it is understandable with look at those rankings.1 point

Transfers aren’t held to signing periods like JUCOs/High School players. I mean, technically those guys aren’t held to those dates either but you generally expect them to sign at those specific times. Not as much the case with D1 transfers.1 point

Why has it been so quiet for us? Figured this year we would land recruits quickly coming off an NCAA tourney win but it’s been mostly crickets!1 point

One of Seth’s biggest mistakes in my opinion. We win the Bowl game Morris is MVP!1 point

Was Morris really given a chance? Seems to me Seth went into the game looking for a reason to pull him. Happy with Mason's success, but I have always whished he could have set out the first season1 point

Obviously not, but if we ever want to get out of this abysmal situation with our endowment, we’re going to need our well-off alumni to be more engaged.1 point

Brady seems to always love the small slot receiver.....this could be a GREAT fit for Darden.1 point

https://www.apmreports.org/story/2017/05/05/police-de-escalation-training Interesting report from APM regarding the lack of de-escalation training. The first case they cover the guy was shot dead within 30 seconds of the pull over - then in the video the Sheriff was lamenting that he should have just fought him instead. In the documentary I mentioned above, the non-racist-cop pile drove the ballet dancer/teacher within 10 seconds of the pull over. Instead of slowing down - they speed up. Real question, is there quota or training on how quickly to resolve an interaction on a call? Like for phone banks. Do police need to wrap it up within X minutes? I am for real, curious if there some systemic reason for the police going all gas in the non-normal situations. This was is interesting - on what they trained the officer from the Castille murder. Well trained in how people are motivated to kill him, but little in the way of de-escalating. "During Yanez's five years with the department, he had received 344 hours of training, including a 20-hour course called the "Bullet Proof Mind," which, according to one recording of a session, warns officers that they are "dealing with individuals who are motivated to kill in a way that we have never seen before." Yanez also spent 16 hours on a course called "Street Survival," from the same training company. Conversely, he had obtained just two hours of de-escalation training. Yanez is now facing manslaughter charges."1 point

Let’s try and look at this from an unbiased standpoint to back that claim. Let’s say another school in our conference lost 3 starters and was going into the season with the following starting lineup: PG: 5’11” JUCO signee with offers from ETSU, UIC, Montana State, and Florida Gulf Coast SG: Returning starter coming off 7.7 points/game SF: 6th man coming off 6.2 points/game PF: Returning starter coming off 10.4 points/game C : Bench player coming off 2.9 points/game If this was a team not named North Texas coming into next season with a lightly recruited JUCO PG and the other four starters coming off of 27.2 points/game combined, would we be looking at that as a top end CUSA starting lineup on paper? I like the way the team is shaping up with 3 spots left to use, but it’s hard to say that is currently a top-end CUSA starting lineup without personal biases.1 point
