Would be nice to see Gonzaga and U of H in the finals - The Power Conferences would probably demand a restructuring of the tournament 😈5 points

Ugghh. I look forward to the day when Texas Tech is not an upgrade over North Texas. They have the Big 12 and nothing else compared to UNT. And.....it's freaking Lubbock.5 points

It’s inconvenient when a coach chooses to leave on their own, but it also shows growth of a program when there’s no agony.5 points

I gotta think coach Hodge would rather be a D1 HC, if offered.5 points

Talked to a member of that '75 team. Its one of Fry's motivational tactics. After the Tennessee win, he called them "Giant Killers" so with the help of either Bill Mercer or Fritz Von Erich (possibly both), Andre the Giant was brought in.4 points

One important fact left out in the story, Bean is a walk on and KU has no head football coach!4 points

And you know Wren has a short list of qualified candidates. In Wren we trust!4 points

They have the B12 and nothing else? I’m with you, think Lubbock is LaJunk, but it is precisely because they are in the B12 that they have nearly 10x the resources and leverage compared to us in nearly every talking point. Money. Exposure. Facilities. Fudruckers4 points

I hear you, but Grant had one (1) year of D1 experience when we hired him away from ArkSt. Prior to that it was a couple years at D2 and several at JUCO. Hodge has learned under Grant and other good coaches, plus has been a JUCO head coach. Before joining Eustachy at Southern Miss, Hodge compiled a record of 146-24 in head coaching stints at Midland Junior College (2009-11) and Paris Junior College (2006-09). In his two-year stint with Midland College, Hodge guided the Chaparrals to an impressive 63-7 (.900) record... Hodge coached for four years at Paris Junior College, the last three as head coach. In those three seasons, Hodge led the Dragons to an 83-17 (.830). The Dragons won two Texas Eastern Athletic Conference regular-season championships...4 points

They were runner-up in 2019. I am not sure how you define upgrade but the rest of the people on this planet think that means it is a better program. Also, in math class we learned that a $5 million salary is 10 times higher than a 500k salary.4 points

I'm just happy he won't be our QB. No team wins rotating QBs after their mistakes.3 points

Fudruckers in Lubbock is still open. It's a done deal that McCasland is going now.3 points

I don’t get the whole “move up” thing in basketball. Basketball is one of the sports we play where there isn’t a mid-major ceiling like in football. We advanced farther than Texas and the same as Tech this year. If we hadn’t faced a Villanova having the best 3 pointer day of their life, we may have advanced farther than Tech. The only draw I see here is money.3 points

this makes me hopeful. hopeful that Mac is staying, but also if he's not Bell believes in the program enough with whoever is next, which is just as great. Best news!3 points

If Mac leaves, maybe Ross Hodge would be the man. The continuity might save a mass exodus.3 points

Well, you put this poll in the football forum and you didn't put it in the basketball forum. I think that about says enough.3 points
-
My only problem with it is that the thinking is directly around football & basketball monies. It's not really considering the money drains all of the olympic sports are... but you'd better believe that if football/basketball players get paid, there are going to be Title 9 lawsuits filed for women's equestrian teams to have the same funds.3 points

How do you know he is a walk on? Tuition at Kansas for an out of state student is over $28k. I somehow doubt he is going to walk on.2 points

The reality is that Mac is our coach until he isn’t. Unless you are June Jones, that’s how things are done. I wouldn’t read too much into anything.2 points

Name the last Mid Major to win the title. Gonzaga is the favorite this year, but you have to basically go all the way back to UNLV to find one that has won the title. Memphis and UMass got close, but Calipari was involved with both (and each went on probation after he left).2 points

Hodge and Dowling have been together since early 2010 days at USM. If Mac leaves, promoting would be the best. Hodge is a huge reason why we are successful, and would be the perfect fit for the system.2 points

I just read about Jimmy Burkholder vs Tennessee. He intercepted a lateral and recovered a fumble, both led to Mean Green TDs. A one man wrecking crew. Great find, Marty. GO MEAN GREEN2 points

I think there will always be people the want football to be the most important, because this is Texas and all the hype that sport carries here. However CUSA is not a great football conference, in which our program is barely above average, one big game against SMU and sometimes an invite to play at a power5 school. From the outside looking in, UNT's football program is barely on anyone's radar in college football.2 points
