  1. @ADLER, that didn’t happen, the guy misheard something and corrected himself. There’s lots of speculation but who the hell knows. Everything from a ref who officiated our final Sunday who tested positive Monday(he’s in bad shape, hope he pulls out of this ok) to the hotel where both teams and officials stayed at. Why didn’t the other team test positive? Maybe because they paused earlier this season due to positives and didn’t get it now. or again who knows....I bet there are three more theories popped up as I type this! Just hoping it gets resolved not to point fingers but to know how to do better. no positive players since testing started the end of last June and now... poof. Yeah our board is kind of tore up, I’m gonna take a break until tomorrow sometime. thought about getting ripped 🤔instead I pounded down a quart of ice cold milk and a whole sleeve of Oreos in 15 minutes. Weird. do me a favor, beat the snot out of Villanova? Sorry for the senseless ramble and cheers!

  2. One minute, and 39 seconds. That’s how long Purdue led in our game against them. They scored the first points to go up by 3 at 3-0...and after that, never led. Years from now, when some sportscaster tries to talk about our Herculean effort to stay with mighty Purdue and prevail in the end, I hope our athletic department reminds them of this fact.

  7. We are conference championship contenders in just about every team sport. Not every sport, but most, and even those others are showing promise. Football, which many of us realize has not yet reached it's potential, has earned a bowl game four of the last five years, and we should hopefully start to see results of significantly improved recruiting. Our Soccer team has been nationally ranked and annually racking up CUSA Championship trophies. The North Texas Men's Basketball team is repeat CUSA champs and currently making waves in the NCAA Tournament. The North Texas Women's Basketball team also has had an outstanding season. They would have won the CUSA Championship if they would have been able to maintain their fourth quarter lead on Rice on March 3. Great job Jalie! Softball and volleyball have also been doing well in recent seasons, and have been challenging for conference titles. The Track teams have a brand new facility, the Golf team has, for the first time, a new training facility being built, and there are plans for major improvements planned, including indoor courts, for our Tennis facility. Even a new natatorium is being planned for the Swimming and Diving program. Yes, we are beginning to see that future that you speak of. I contrast this with a school like UTSA, where a message board poster inquired "has UTSA won a single CUSA championship in any sport since they joined the league in 2013?" I couldn't think of one.

  8. This Boiler fan will adopt UNT as long as you can keep dancing. I hope there is still room on the bandwagon. Your team is extremely well coached. I don't know how many times last night I thought Purdue was going to get a stop after playing solid defense for 20-25 seconds, only to find that the fourth ball screen got you the switch and the matchup you wanted, one cut, one reversal, and yet another open look. That's not something that can be taken for granted; many veteran teams don't have that kind of poise. I also thought that you guys rebounded extremely well for the first 35 minutes, despite giving up a lot of size and length. Again, that's attention to detail and execution of the little things. Had Purdue exploited this for even half of the game instead of just the last five minutes, the outcome could have been different. After watching your CUSA game with WKU, I think everyone knew you were going to collapse the paint and dare us to beat you from the arc. I'm never confident in Purdue's shooting, but I did expect to track down more second chances, particularly if you guys were not going to extend the perimeter defense. I'd still take Purdue in a best-of-seven series, but single elimination is what makes this tourney both cruel and great. Single games favor poise, experience, and discipline, and those features were wearing green last night. Go beat Nova!

  10. I think this team has done more to elevate the status of North Texas than any previous accomplishment. More than Joe Greene, more than Apogee Stadium and more than the One O’clock Lab Band. More people, nation wide, know the name North Texas and Mean Green than ever before and any further success in the tournament will only increase that awareness. GO MEAN GREEN

  15. No, this would be more like worrying about a job opening while the Holiday Bowl was about to be played. No offense to any of the Bowl games we played in (because I was happy to be in all of them), but this is way bigger than anything we've been in. This isn't quite like one of the top tier Bowl games yet (that will kick in starting if/when we get to the Sweet 16), but it's in the tier just under the big six.

  16. Mississippi State won today in the NIT. Our four non-conference losses were to: - Arkansas: In the NCAA round of 32 - Mississippi State: In the NIT Quarterfinals - West Virginia: In the NCAA round of 32 - Loyola: In the NCAA round of 32 Having played against this many quality teams has definitely come in handy for us the past two seasons.

  19. Yes, we are yesterday's news by now. Win tonight (which we will) and it will start all over again. BTW, I must admit to getting a bit weepy eyed after the game with Purdue. For us oldtimers, this has been so long in coming.

  25. Thank you, and God bless you Dr Norval F Pohl. Your dreams for North Texas are all becoming a reality. People doubted when you said that North Texas, a university with few resources, could become a National Tier 1 Research Institution. People in the North Texas academic community scoffed when you brought in former Alabama coach Gene Stallings as an adviser on how to build and sustain a nationally respected athletic program at the University of North Texas. You and your bride Barbikay would be so pleased with our current North Texas President Neal Smatresk and the outstanding people that he has brought in to continue your legacy. Dr Norval F Pohl passed away in 2009, and Barbikay passed in 2016. Their contributions to this university will never be forgotten.

  29. Caught the last part of College Game Day on ESPN this morning. While the three panelists didn't all agree on the winner of the 15 ORU/7 Florida or 10 Rutgers/2 UH games, apparently there were no disagreements on our game. Starting to feel like we'd need to beat Baylor in the Sweet 16 before we start getting any extra attention.

  34. Actually... My point was that RV insisted (for football) that the helmets were marked with "North Texas", and didn't have a logo. You might say we didn't have even have a logo until the University's branding initiative, and then RV refused to put the logo on the helmet until the Heart of Dallas bowl vs. UNLV. His rationale was that nobody would know who we were otherwise. But your point is valid - the administration had disposed of the name "Mean Green" after Hayden Fry left, and RV did recognize the value of the uniqueness of the name, and the history of the years using that name, and brought it back. So yes, kudos to RV for that.

  38. This is what all those surprised by the Purdue win in the media are missing. I was waiting for the analyst in the CBS sports video posted elsewhere to mention that we had slugged it out against four top teams and taking those lumps - plus the CUSA tournament - had hardened this team and made them ready for Purdue.

  39. Glad you posted this. One thing Rick really got right was putting Mean Green and North Texas out there front and center over the generic “Eagles.” I know the name predates him becoming AD of course but he made a deliberate decision to put Eagles aside and really get Mean Green recognized as our brand. It is paying off as we are a nickname favorite during this tournament and the first round win really solidified that.

  40. I agree Mac should be paid, but that is a poor comparison when you factor in the revenue produced by both programs. Glad ol' @DallasGreencould show up, zero comments about the Purdue game and bitch about salaries. Some things never change. We have a few posters that will not comment, but if there is a loss or something doesn't work out to their satisfaction, then here they come.

  44. If you (or other basketball fans) get to Indy, I highly recommend going about 30 minutes east to New Castle, to see the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and Museum. It's mainly high school themed, but Indiana basketball has a lot of similarities with Texas high school football. We have a lot of 800 person towns that built 3,000 seat gyms. And of course, we have our 6000+ capacity gyms as well. The fact I love to share with out-of-state fans is that when Steve Alford was a senior at New Castle High School, New Castle drew more fans per home game than did the Indiana Pacers. For a hard core basketball and basketball history buff, there just aren't a whole lot of places in the country like it.
