  1. Watching the Richmond/Toledo game tonight was real joy for me. Not that I cared who won, but because the North Texas court logos were clearly viewable in almost every shot. That equals two plus hours of free advertising on ESPN2. And, we still have 3 more opening round games left over the next few days. We are also enjoying our logo being displayed at the games in Frisco. I have no idea how Wren achieved this, or what he had to spend to have North Texas partner with the NIT, but it was a real stroke of genius. It is all the better because UNT is in the Madness this season, which creates a secondary story line the announcers are mentioning. On social media, people are commenting on our unique court, and North Texas is a relevant topic. I'd imagine that tonight on SportsCenter, UNT's logos will be seen in much of the college basketball reporting. In my opinion, Wren has put on a marketing clinic for other athletic directors to envy. Thank you Wren. You instincts for college basketball are second to none.

  2. I honestly don't know why anyone on this board would wish JJ anything but success. He did a lot of good for our program.

  3. He didn’t just leave for a bigger position. He left for his alma mater. What we feel for North Texas, he feels for LSU. I will never fault him for that and wish him nothing but the best.

  4. He did what I hope every coach does when he comes here. I don't mind if they have eyes on bigger positions in the future. In order to get those, you have to win here first. He did exactly that.

  7. Almost all coaches will leave for a better position like most any other profession. More pay, alma mater, much more prestigious school and a gigantic step up the coaching ladder. Johnny Jones made that leap and like most could not prosper at that level. Now he has taken a school at the bottom tier of D1 that finances their program with nightmare oc schedules to the NCAA tournament. Congrats to Jones and I hope for a play-in win.

  14. Also, Let's not forget that North Texas was Marty Biagi's first FBS ST's Coordinator job. Prior to that, he was a "Special Teams Analyst" for Notre Dame (same type of role Petrilli is in now). All of his other experience was at lower levels like Petrilli.

  18. It was neat to see the Super Pit on the regular ESPN's and not one of their ESPN+ or ESPN3 type broadcasts. I also have to salute our AD and I assume CUSA for helping put this together. We're not some basketball powerhouse (if I've done my math right, our all time win percentage is around 48%), so anything that can get our name out there is great as far as I'm concerned.

  26. I give us a 15% chance at the upset. We're scrappy as hell and I know Mac will have us ready to play. However, Purdue has too much size and the Big 10 was ridiculously strong this season. We definitely have a puncher's chance - much more than our three previous tournament appearances. By game time, I'll probably be predicting a win - but right now I still am thinking logically. 🙂

  27. At every one of those except the Kibbie game. I brought the bride to a watching party in Denton for that game when we secured our first SBC Championship and first bowl game since the 1959 Sun Bowl. Went home for a few hours, and then returned to Denton to greet the team busses as they arrived from the airport. I didn't make it to the game, but I have a great memento. Our first child was born exactly 9 months after that night.

  37. I haven’t seen the line but it’s two sixteen seeds, would it be a big upset? Like most idiots I didn’t appreciate JJ til he was gone. I let the KSU game and WKU title game (although last week’s win helped soothe that) overshadow all he did here. Very much rooting for him tonight.

  42. As far as North Texas opponents in Denton with a national title, I think the list is only six (6) though I may have missed something. Oklahoma State, San Francisco, Cincinnati, UTEP, Louisville, UNLV. It still amazes me UTEP is the only Texas school to have won it.
