  1. Drink beer, great guy and a great fan of the sports program. He did lot of the work for the alumni (sig ep) at the cotton bowl game that resulted in a huge turnout.

  2. If he's anything like the last transfer we got from ACU, I'll be thrilled. The 2 years he was here, Riley Mayfield was arguably (along with Elex) the best OL we had. Welcome aboard Kameron!

  4. I don't care if he wasn't rated, and is maybe undersized at his position, but we NEED the depth. I'm hoping we can get more of a depth in the front 7, and do what SMU and UH do where they do almost a complete rotation. We never really do that because we never have the depth and talent at that area. Welcome, Kameron!

  5. Guys our sack leader had 4.5 sacks last season, the next highest was 3. He bends the corner, dips and gets leverage on the tackle better than most of our defensive ends do. If that's his only trick and he plays on 3rd downs while McCrae slides inside he will contribute a lot. We didn't sign a single high school DE in 18, signed two in 19 (Walker, Dotson) who were already passed for playing time by the class of 20 signees Rausaw and Pickett. In my opinion this is a lot better than signing JUCO guys who were just big bodies expected to hold up against the run like Frow, Sa'afi, McMillan, and Colvin.

  6. I’m interested to see where Bennett puts Rausaw and Pickett. Rausaw was playing nose last year after coming in at 6’3” 275 and Pickett was playing 3-tech at 6’3” 270. Looking at Baylor film it looks like most of the time they have a 1-tech DT and a 3-tech DT. Where they were currently, they would be more inside unless Bennett has plans to trim them down a little and move them back outside.

  7. I was looking forward to these two games and hoping for a split. We had that game won last year if Tayveion hits his free throws at the end and he’s been an 80% plus guy from the line since he’s been here. We have a pretty good squad this year. Bassey is legit legit. His freshman year he really wasn’t. He had good numbers but he wasn’t going to get drafted high so came back. He was playing pretty well until he broke his knee. I honestly (being a lifelong Western fan that expects the worst) didn’t expect much out of him this year being 9 months removed from major surgery. He has far exceeded what I thought we’d get out of him. We’ve got some really good pieces at the other spots also with a bunch of seniors. If Stans is ever going to do something here he’ll do it this year. They’ve announced we’ve picked up a non-conference game at Houston now. I knew from friends close to Stans that we’d been working on it and Houston wanted to but they said something about conference was giving them another conference game or something and couldn’t work it out. That’s what I heard anyway. But now it’s on. UNC tweeted out they were looking for ANYONE to play. Our guys jumped on the horn immediately and got a lot of hemming and hawing out of UNC and the next thing you know they announce they’re playing Northeastern. Stans has called Calipari so many times Cal is not answering any more calls from him. I don’t blame Stans for trying to pick up games. He has to know he’ll probably never have this roster again here. I think he can have some good teams in the future because he simply never stops recruiting. Have you ever watched him in a handshake line? The opposing coach has to physically remove Stans from loving on whatever player went off on us. You never know when a kid might want to txfer out. But this year he has a junior Bassey and some pretty good seniors playing their roles. I don’t think we’ll get blown out by Houston but I doubt Cincinnati expected to lose by almost 40 to them either. But it’s nice to get a game with a ranked team even on their floor. Stans got us the game with Alabama at their place earlier this year by calling everyone. We won that game at the very end and I never cry about refs but we were getting honked that whole game. Amazing that we stayed in it much less won it. I hate we’re not playing these two. Loved playing you guys in the Belt and love playing you guys here in CUSA.

  9. So today’s my birthday. I opened my email and saw an email from UNT congratulating me and giving me a 10% coupon for merchandise and free shipping. I think “I’d like a new hat and shirt.” Pick what I want and start online checkout. Enter my code and get a message that the code is invalid. Really!!! Just mean(green)...

  11. I agree with the depth and rotation comments. Hill gives us a solid 2 deep at DE with McCrae, Murphy Twins, and Him. Add in Rausaw, Walker, and Dotson and we've got 3 deep on both ends. Speed and Size. IMO Hill would be a perfect compliment to a guy like Rausaw who's more of a SDE. Put him on the weak side and let him wreak havoc. He's shown he can get to the QB already. Get him 1-on-1 and let him eat

  12. Spot on. Depth along the defensive front is critical. When your DL starts to wear down, you are toast.

  17. That's a fair point. I do think we have better depth at DT right now than DE. Which is why I think one of them will move to the end. I'll be interested to see what the post spring depth chart looks like

  23. Looks like Bennett is going after guys who have proven they can play at the D1 level, rather than P5 guys who have been backups and are looking for playing time. Tyrae Thornton started at Rice, Kameron Hill was a multi-year starter at the FCS level, and Jason Simmons (another transfer offer we have out) started at Safety as a true freshman at New Mexico State in 2019. We aren’t going to get P5 starters, so that’s typically what you can get. Either P5 backups who don’t have playing experience and the most recent tape you really have is high school, or guys who you actually have seen can play and produce at the D1 level but may not be as talented. We also have the former with guys like Jordan Rucker (Purdue), John Davis (Texas Tech), and Logan Wilson (ULM via Kansas State). Risk with either route.

  33. They are getting players to transfer down from P5 conferences to play at SMU, while ours come from Rice and La. Monroe. SMU is doing a great job on the field, regardless of attendance.

  34. Dykes is a helluva coach and always has been. He has used the portal wisely to get DFW kids back home to get playing time and the opportunity for a degree from a highly regarded school. In the business world, within this region, SMU’s business school carries a lot of cachet and lots of athletes are attracted to the degree. They have that main advantage that few in the G5 can use.
    1 point
  35. But you also need to give them credit where due. Dykes has stepped up their recruiting and ability to attract transfers. Does not mean they don't still have a big percentage of fans who acts like asses, but as far as recruiting goes they have greatly upped their game.

  36. Their recruiting strategy is absolutely paying dividends as shown in the past two seasons by results on the field. Dykes has leveraged the Dallas mantra with the high school coaches and kids as the article alludes to, and is winning on kids in the portal who go away to play out of HS and want to come back closer to home. I know our fanbase can't stand SMU, but we should give credit where credit is due.

  37. I'm not totally sure why CBL threw this out there, because Kap was not just ignoring. It was clearly his protest to get people talking. You can't get people talking if you don't get noticed. Back on topic. On one hand, I agree with traditions. On the other, I don't want people doing this because "it's just what you do." I want people doing it because they want to. If you have a solution, I'm all ears.
