  1. I didn't even read who posted about I'd rather have a four-star recruit other than a quarterback. Oh my freaking God!!! I've been on this board for a very long time. I know there's others who have been on this board longer. For UNT to get a four-star recruit at any position, without having to break NCAA recruiting rules to do it. Is an amazing gift from God himself. I think the fan that posted about I'd rather have a four-star recruit at another position, must have graduated from Alabama in another life. Or the posters just trolling us here at gomeangreen.com I guess by faith and Seth latrell and the staff his been redeemed a bit. Based on UNT's recent record in football. Since my Dad's a graduate of Baylor University. I can tell you our defensive coordinator will probably help us out a lot. Even without four star recruits. Of course, there was a time when Baylor University was the dregs of the Southwest conference. So anything's possible. Thank God for UNT's sake is it concerns our football program!!

  2. I added one more mini to my collection yesterday, bringing my count to 20. I know, my problem is real. There are two more designs I’ve seen in the wild that I’d like to get my hands on. It’s amazing how many designs we’ve had.

  4. If they do go down one of those routes then they will upgrade the room, but they would likely have to make another move to really transform their receiving corps into a viable one for the next quarterback, whoever that may be. That leads us to option No. 3, taking another mid-round, high-ceiling player to fit a role that Josh McDaniels has been looking for ever since he arrived back in New England from St. Louis. An offensive weapon, that is where Jaelon Darden comes in. Strengths: I don’t know if people will like this but Jaelon Darden’s biggest strength is being a straight up weapon. The man did it all in his time at North Texas: he lined up in the slot, split out wide, and even was used in the backfield. At his worst, Darden is an extremely talented gadget guy who can make a big play here and there. read more: https://www.patspulpit.com/2021/2/4/22265400/2021-patriots-draft-profile-jaelon-darden-wide-receiver-north-texas

  5. The back end of that defense was, to be kind, not good. I was most disappointed with how many "quality" DB's Littrell brough in during the last few years who allowed teams to pass in front of, around, and over the top of them. And maybe we're hitting the panic button on this UTSA thing too quickly. Sure, they signed a lot of transfers, but these may all be kids who realized college was too tough for them so they went to San Antonio-CC.

  6. Getting triggered by "offense hasn't been the same" comments but I will stay in my lane. My top 25 offense lane. When it comes to questions about QB competition, and Ruder's ability to take the helm, we have to remember that the floor is Aune. And that's a pretty good floor. A full season of Aune or Bean would have had some great passing stats in the league. If Ruder can do better than that, then damn sign me up. Full disclosure: I'm fully on board the Pioneer Football Player train, but let the best man win.

  7. Many are talking like it was only Harrell who left. We were turning over half of our staff every year. We lost Koonz the same offseason we lost Harrell. Did UNC experience the same amount of turnover? Seth will be fine on offense. It took a couple of seasons to adjust, and I think we’re going to see a more consistent group next season. An improved defense will take pressure off of those guys, and the experience they got this year with so many underclassmen playing will start to pay off.

  8. He's a "sleeper" according to so many people that he's not really a "sleeper" any more.

  9. Harvey was like a 6th year senior with a kid and I’m pretty sure was married. Ruder is a sophomore, basically, that got injured and played behind a great QB in San Howell. I think expectations should be way higher than usual transfers.

  10. Glad to hear it. They know they have something good going at the games. No reason to pull the plug on that.

  11. Wilson left talent. And Traylor can coach them up. Then only positive is I dont know how long UTSA can afford to keep him.

  12. Personally, I love the outside the box nature of what he's doing down there. He's trying to win games. I think it shows a lot of boldness to do things differently than the norm or what we're used to. We'll see how it translates on the field, but my guess is he's going to be putting more talented players on the field than just going the HS player route as he builds that program into what he wants it to be.

  13. Spavital is burning all of his bridges with high schools in Texas going this route. You only get 25 new scholarships per year to hand out. If you add that up by only bringing in guys with 1, 2, or 3 years of eligibility in (instead of 4 or 5), your roster begins shrinking year by year. It's not sustainable. This is a bone-headed, desperate move.

  15. Not sure you would call it dirt. MM was pissed and took the opportunity to make the Athletic Depart look bad. Hopefully, while you never want to turn down a donation like that, we are in a place now where if a donor tried that we could tell him to enjoy the music.

  16. By looking at recruiting it is hard to tell which team had the worst defense. Traylor and UTSA has went out and reloaded on D. They have added guys that can immediately contribute, with utilizing both JUCO and Transfers. It is obviously harder for a kid to come straight from HS to contribute. But by looking at the recruiting classes you would think Traylor was the one trying to save his job and repair a defense that was historically bad. Yes I understand that we still have a handful of scholarships left. Just feel like we missed some opportunities by not getting more guys that could immediately help here for spring ball. Here is the comparisons of the two classes currently I think SMU has perfected the portal for G5. Grab talent you could never get straight out of HS. UTSA is doing extremely well at it this year. By looking at our recruiting class, then looking at UTSA recruiting class. You would think they had the worse defense in the country. UTSA #4 JUCO DE OU DE transfer #7 JUCO LB #7 JUCO Safety #9 JUCO CB OSU bounceback #9 JUCO DE Kansas LB Transfer Tulane DT Transfer Kansas State DE Transfer Texas A and M CB Transfer UNT #10 JUCO DT

  25. Jaelon Darden deserves the best. He has the speed to break for NFL touchdowns. More important, he is a good role model for others to emulate. I really hope his hometown Houston Texans draft him high. Good luck, Mr. Darden. 🦅❇️🦅

  26. This is definitely an experiment that could work or bust. Here is a podcast from a reporter that covers the team (guess their BV) where their coach explains what he is trying to do. The coach starts speaking around th 18:50 mark. PS - He coached under Dykes at Cal and they mention how he has talked a bit about the SMU model

  30. I lived in Houston for a number of years. Mac is a good guy, but everything he does is to promote himself or his business. He does a lot of great things, housing people during the hurricane Harvey for example, but he makes sure it doesn't go unnoticed. Doesn't make him a bad guy, just the way he is.

  35. That's kind of the vibe I got from listening to his reasoning in that podcast. He also stated that over 50% of his scholarship players are freshmen and sophomores due to the COVID stuff, so he is looking for guys with more experience. He said he would only have 5 seniors on scholarship next year. He also basically said that he doesn't have to make an offer to athletes who don't have other offers like he has has in the past, so he can be patient and see what his options are before making that offer. I think COVID makes transfers even more appealing. Look at Ruder. He's been in a college program for 3 years and he still has 4 years of eligibility left.

  36. It initially started with him betting on the Astros to win the World Series and donating the proceeds to local Houston charities, win or lose. Noble enough. Then it turned into bets for other local teams which he would do the same thing, Texans, Rockets, etc. Now, he's just betting just to bet and the press eats it up because he is a personality. He can do no wrong in their eyes because "he's done so much for the city."

  37. I may agree if his class was 1/2-and-1/2 or something... but he didn't sign a SINGLE high school player in this class. Not one. That's a bad look when I see all of these High School coaches tweeting out that they have Seniors who they would normally expect to have playing D-1 ball instead having to sign to D-II or lower because of the Covid waiver & the flood of Transfers. So to see a school here in Texas choose to fill their entire class with transfers (and have room left over... I believe they only signed 11), but still not provide opportunities for high school guys... it's a recipe for burned bridges.

  40. Very very impressive collection. Your collection would be an asset to the Athletic Department. I showed my wife. Even she was impressed. I think we have gone as far as we can helmet wise. With the exception of the black helmet, I think all the new designs are as good as any school. I especially like the helmets with the large wings. GO MEAN GREEN
