  4. The University is asking these guys to go out and compete against other dudes from other schools. Testing them is one of the easiest things they can do to help keep them safe. And, you don't have to be showing symptoms to be contagious. Also, the issues of false positives/negatives are mitigated by testing so often.

  5. What smells in here? Oh it's you North Texas guys. 😀 I won't be traveling, but will be watching the game on TV. I got to visit Denton this summer while visiting family in Lewisville (Highland Village), very impressed by your stadium. I think rivalry starts with having a good traveling fanbase. Tech has shown it brings a good crowd to Denton (typically with full band in a non-Covid season). Keep this up, in a few years we will have a good rivalry built on respect not hate.

  6. 1. Of course not. That is why I said there are higher false negatives than false positives. The test is uniquely specific (rarely false positives) but not as sensitive (more false negatives). 2. Do tell - do you have the statistics? I am all ears.

  7. I like you, but you're not enough. Please grab 5-10 of your buddies and tell them to bring this same derogative energy. If possible, y'all come back next week, often, to continually rub salt in our wounds. Please give our fans something easy to make fun of as well, like a large fast-food chain providing free tickets to your home games with purchase of a bucket meal deal. Hopefully we can grow this little seed you're trying to plant. I'm with you brother.

  8. We literally just won the last CUSA Men's BBall regular season. This was a terrible troll on your part. Do better.

  9. Bruh. What? This is not the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. This is standard testing... The results are anything but "sketchy". For the safety of their hearts and lungs - they should know before going out there for our entertainment if they are at risk of putting themselves in harm's way. Same way they get a physical to play. Or need to pass the concussion protocol.

  10. did not know this league existed but FSSW is televising their games. A few former NT players on rosters. Jordan Murray and Darrien McMillen on the Alphas. EJ Ejiya on the Aviators. https://www.thespringleague.com/

  14. It's water under the bridge, but presently UNT is ranked last in Texas among G5 schools in giving to athletics, so based upon history I doubt there would have been a green flood of money. When Fry was coach I had two toddlers, was trying to get my business off the ground, and made very few games, but I don't recall a sellout at Fouts. Perhaps those who attended home games during the Fry era can provide an idea as attendance.

  15. So, instead of tackling the opponent, our coach now wants our defense to spank him?

  16. So it’s called The Spring League, but they’re playing now? That’s not at all unstable. Probably the best football the Alamodome has seen in a while.

  19. I would say that >300,000 excess deaths in less than a year would lead to some leeway on precaution. I don't think testing athletes is "hysteria." You should really find a new word though. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6942e2.htm Also - you should be keenly aware that more than likely you don't get it at your work - the "us" that get it. If you had PPE the whole time, you more than likely got it at the grocery store, restaurant or your kid coming home from college. Using a mask makes the 'viral load' you get from transmission way less... and you are more likely to be asymptomatic. Just because someone is asymptomatic, doesn't mean they don't incur internal damage. You, being in healthcare, should know that too. https://www.heart.org/en/news/2020/09/03/what-covid-19-is-doing-to-the-heart-even-after-recovery https://www.mdlinx.com/article/covid-19-damage-found-in-multiple-organ-systems/7aEtHY8SPWz1Nutsg7nhrf But.. let's throw caution to the wind for these young guys out there for my entertainment. Or ... we can just do simple reliable tests and do the best we can.

  20. False positives are very rare. False negatives are more common.

  21. This is the thing about testing - a person with a negative test doesn't mean they don't have COVID. It could mean there isn't enough viral load on that day to register a positive result. It takes a few days after exposure to register a positive result. This is something that is easily misunderstood... and why contact tracing and strict quarantine is important.

  22. https://247sports.com/college/north-texas/Article/North-Texas-mean-green-basketballs-first-three-reported-games-of-2020-21-season-153930926/ The other part of the schedule that was reported by The D1 Docket was the rescheduling of North Texas vs. LSU, which was originally set for Nov. 17. Now, the two will play on Dec. 19 in a game at LSU...... Now, North Texas is hunting for quality competition to comprise the month and some change between the start of the season on Nov. 25 and the start of conference play on Dec. 31.

  24. Thank you, UNTLifer. Good team assessment. I truly think UNT might be better than advertised this year. When Saturday comes around, I just hope that LA Tech isn't still daydreaming about last week's UAB win. I can't see this Tech team scoring 45 points to win a shootout, so the Tech DL is going to have to step up and stop that UNT running game. That won't be easy with the RB depth chart that UNT has.

  25. I don't believe he believes this pick. I think he is trying to break his own curse.

  26. Offense: * Our OL seems to be coming together with a lot of new faces this year. * Running game is deep with Torrey, Siggers and Adaway coming back this week. Our true freshman Johnson has looked good but hasn't played in a few weeks. * QB play has been inconsistent. Bean, if he plays like he did against MUTS, is electric with the speed he brings to the game. I was really proud to see how he reacted to his previous benching. If he makes good decisions with the ball he will put up great numbers. * Jaelon Darden at WR is leading the nation and unbelievably good. Simpson is developing into a great player but disappears from time to time. Shorter is otu with an injury. The remaining players have talent but have been inconsistent. Drops and poor routes have hurt, but they are young and growing. TE is hit and miss and most of the talent is very young. * D-Line has given up a ton of yards. Novil is a beast in the middle but our DE's have been inconsistent. We look to be starting the Murphy twins at DE this week. They are both talented, but are RS Fr and have missed some time this year. * LB's haven't been terrible but if the KD and T Davis are in then they are much better. The depth behind them is very young. * DB's: There has been a revolving door back there due to injuries and other issues. We have given up way too many big plays due to blown coverages but they, along with the rest of the D, look much better in the second half against the MUTS. I expect a high scoring affair.

  27. @wardlyOur history, and overall lack of support for athletics is something we will need to continue working on. I think many people do not realize the perception Texas High School coaches have regarding UNT. Hopefully we will continue building relationships and gain trust.

  29. Of course the University is! It’s part of the agreement. Come here & play football... we’ll cover tuition/fees/room&board/+. I know there’s an out for this year, but these guys are some of the most talented & driven football players in America. They want to play & would likely walk maskless through an El Paso ER if there was an opponent ready to play on the other side. So they deserve 3-4 tests per week if it helps keep them safe.

  30. We will all survive regardless of the outcomes. I liked that they extended early voting a few days earlier this year. It made voting a cinch even with the record turnout.

  34. Why in the heck would you want to give up a home game and make your fans travel to Louisiana for this game? It isn't like it would be Texas-OU or Army-Navy or anything. WE need all the revenue we can get from games played in Apogee. I just don't like this idea at all.
    1 point
  35. Apogee was built as an attractive home field for NT. I’m not ready to play “home” games anywhere but at Apogee. GO MEAN GREEN

  36. So one month El Paso will be ready to host a game? They should just come here and play in December.
