  1. We should probably just not get worked up about anything that happens this season.

  3. Despite El Paso's current Covid 19 pandemic spike, with overwhelmed county hospitals unable to accept injured players, UTEP refused to consider relocating Saturday's game to an alternate location. El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego has proclaimed a county wide lockdown and that UTEP would not be able to host the game because athletic and entertainment events are not categorized as essential businesses. Simply put, the Sun Bowl in El Paso would not be able to host the North Texas - UTEP football game. Not being able to play a game at a specified site is not a new situation for this football series. UTEP, then called Texas Western, was scheduled to be the first guest team at North Texas' opening of their new Eagle Stadium on September 20, 1952. North Texas couldn't host the game at the new stadium because the new field's natural turf was not ready due to a recent heat wave, and requested the game be moved to the older but smaller stadium on campus, to a different metroplex location, or postponed to a date later that season. UTEP wouldn't consider postponement, insisted that the game be moved to El Paso's Kidd Field, and finally compromised with the game being played at a midway neutral site in Odessa, Texas. Now, though no fault of their own, UTEP cannot host the current game in this series. Shouldn't UTEP have to play by the same rules that they themselves created, to only play at the opponents stadium or at a neutral site. And if they decide not to, UTEP should be forced to forfeit the game. https://kvia.com/coronavirus/2020/10/29/el-paso-county-judge-considers-more-restrictions-possible-shutdown-due-to-virus-surge/

  4. TCU turned a lot of RBs and QBs into some pretty good defensive players.

  5. Glad to hear you are well protected. I know we have had disagreements on here but I also realize we are all part of the UNT/Mean Green family and wish you no harm. I am not sure what your role is there but prayers for continued protection and safety.

  6. First section yes, second no. The throwbacks are great and very important to us establishing connection to our past where there has been a chasm for way too long. We need to keep that going. Not overdo it, but it’s great having them at the ready. But I agree, I want names on the back.

  7. Well, there need to be an adult in the room and that adult should be the C-USA commissioner. I am not anticipating ole Judy to do squat.

  8. No, let the schools work it out. It was a no brainer no to go to El Paso. Virus will probably be around thru 2021 so schools who want to play football need to learn to compromise .

  9. Well you gotta get a coach who would do that lol Seth isn’t the guy for that...

  10. Honestly, I couldn't care less if the kids names are on the back of the jersey. It helps me figure out who they are when the roster isn't correct but other than that, MEH. Just win

  16. Just wait until FIU doesn't travel to EP next week. UTEP is going to freak out. There might not be enough dates for them to reschedule in December. It's not their fault, nor ours, nor FIU's fault if that occurs. Hell, a couple infections out there and UTSA game could be a no go. No reason to get worked up. The season is just messed up by 2020 karma.

  17. The two departments need a 3rd party mediator. Draw up 2-3 alternatives. Play in Denton. Play half-way. etc. UTEP needs to anticipate that no one else will want to play there and they will not have any more football in El Paso this season. UNT should also consider that maybe EVERY team left on the Miner home schedule will follow through and play. Will that make us look like the jerks? Maybe, but I don't think this will actually happen, though. No one should forfeit games this year. This request by the UTEP staff strikes me as a side trying to save face or do damage control (regarding their image).

  18. I don't think anyone needs to forfeit anything in this Covid season. But, UTEP was given an opportunity to play this game in Denton at OUR cost, and they refused. If this game can't be re-scheduled in December due to the situation in El Paso (because guess what, it's not going to magically get better over the next month or so), then it is UTEP's fault this game didn't get played. Oh well.

  22. I all but guarantee all would love to see the highlights of the UNT vs New Mexico State Aggies game at Fouts Field in the most exciting game I can ever remember watching in that stadium. ❇️The winner would go to the New Orleans Bowl. ❇️ That game was like a see-saw as it changed leads several times. ❇️ Booger Kennedy had a field day & brought the large Fouts Field crowd to its feet. •••The whole MG “D” created the same sensation throughout the game. ❇️That was the game Mean Green fans rushed out of the stands & tore down the south end zone goal post at •venerable Fouts Field. Anyone still have that photo? •Venerable was a favorite adjective of Bill Mercer’s back in the day. ❇️❇️GMG!❇️❇️

  24. Im not saying all the time, Just mix that in there. The defense would implode with Bean, Siggers and Torrey/Adaway randomly running the triple option in the back field. 2 WR/ 1 TE set or 3 WR Set. Seems like a fun little package to throw in there with PA Pass

  25. Wish we would run the triple option out of the shotgun. We have the RB's and have the QB to bust one open which forces the Defense to take him seriously

  27. Good grief, Charley Tolar. All 5'6" X 210 lbs. "The human bowling ball". I used to love to watch Houston play in the early days of the AFL. Later in the 60's I remember a player for NT that reminded me of Tolar. His name was Wilie Cherry, and I believe he played in 65 and 66. AND I believe we wore #33.

  28. I was 10 when the AFL began, “J.” Bud Adams & the Houston Oilers.....The team I followed being from the H-Town area had on jersey last names like: •(George) Blanda•(Billy) Cannon•(Charley) Tolar• (Don) Floyd•(Charley) Hennigan•(Scott)Appleton•(Sid)Blanks• (Bob)Talamini, etc. My take on names on the backs of jerseys is mostly when the MG are on TV that viewers can more readily ID our players. GMG!

  29. You da’ man, NorthTexasSportsNetwork! 👍👍 If I can find them I have all the DVD’s from that era & will send them to whoever can put the highlights of the 2000’s on YouTube for all to see “the bowl years” at North Texas. •••Another game highlight that could possibly be put on YouTube would be when Super Jamario Thomas ran for over 200 yards against the Big 8 Colorado Buffalos. Back To 2001 MTSU Game: I’d given up on the concept of “crowd noise” in ol’ Fouts Field until that MTSU game in 2001 & then the bowl-deciding game vs the NMSU Aggies. •••One fellow alum told me at half time of the MTSU game that a UNT official (RV?) had a “come to Jesus” meeting with Dickey & told him “Man, open it up—what do you have to lose”— so DD did. (Wasn’t it post-ULM game the week before that DD had actually been fired on the bus trip back to Denton & then rehired)? GMG!

  30. Conference schools already complain about going to UTEP when the virus isn't around. At a time when UTEP needs friends to be in a conference in BFE, they aren't looking for UNT's help. I can't imagine the attitude on display will win them many friends at other schools, either. WTF is their problem?

  31. Plumm, do you remember the early 60s when the old AFL was a start-up league ? Likely to be different, some AFL teams, notably the Dallas Texans, put the players name on the back of the pants. Put that in your Google. J

  32. Oh nice, I didn’t see that. I have no idea who we’re playing now. I think UTA gets worked out too, but not sure how that works out with trying to fit in so many games in December.

  33. I’ve been saying it, but we need to switch back to RUN FIRST! It seems we are recruiting the Oline to do that, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we change up next year. Well I hope...

  34. And it furthers proves that just because you get a P5 offer, doesn’t mean you should go there and skip over a great opportunity at a G5! So many NT decommits do the same, and almost none do anything! Wasted opportunities

  35. UNT will be selling GA tickets through their website, you'll be joining me on the wing in the end zone! Fair warning, all games I have attended someone has come and sit within close proximity of me and my group so I have ended up moving back from the front rows to the mid-rear section, but the view is still great and its a good time. Just be prepared for stairs. LA Tech tickets go on sale 11/2, Rice tickets on 11/16. https://meangreensports.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/SEGetGroupList?groupCode=GS&linkID=unt-athletics&shopperContext=&caller=appList&appCode=

  36. What a night! A great weeknight crowd at Apogee Stadium, too. •••This game would feature “The Stand,” that is, when a good Rice Owls football team would be in the Red Zone & not score In 8 tries. Mean Green fans absolutely went nuts!!!! •••This Mean Green football team In a little over 2 months would play in the HOD Bowl game vs the UNLV Rebels in the Cotton Bowl Stadium. There would be almost 40,000 Mean Green fans for this bowl matchup. (UNLV brought so few fans). ••• North Texas won the January, 2014, bowl game easily. GMG!

  37. Honestly this speaks to the lack of leadership at the conference level. CUSA should have stepped in a made the decision one way or the other (postpone or move the game). Not let the schools let it play out over social media.

  38. Exactly. And if Denton were in the same position El Paso is in and we rejected that offer, I would be mad at us rejecting a game when our subsequent weeks are likely in jeopardy as well. Would much rather play the game away than hope that’s the only game the rest of the season for either team that gets cancelled for us to both make it up.

  39. They already announced there were going to be no fans at the game - days earlier. So given that assumption for your hypothetical - no, I would not be mad at all. I would be mad that we prevented me from watching a game that weekend.

  42. It's almost like they (UTEP personnel) don't understand what's going on in their own town & why NT would be apprehensive about travelling there with over 100 people.

  44. UTEP's President is posting her statement all over Twitter trying to put all of the blame on UNT, not even acknowledging UNT's offer to host the game and pay for UTEP's travel expenses to Denton. Quite a shady spin job from her regarding who is actually the one "backing out"

  45. Apogee is halfway between Denton and EP, right?
