  1. You guys are missing the point. Garnett was kicked off the team.

  2. I understand. But some of us old guys prefer the days when a player committed to play football for a college or university and get an education too. It's just an age thing with some of us dinosaurs.

  4. I may have missed the announcement, but it looks like Cal is back on our schedule at Apogee in 2023. Also hosting Memphis that year. Every current underclassman on our roster will still have eligibility that season. https://fbschedules.com/ncaa-2023/team/north-texas

  5. If he is not happy here then it is probably best for him to head down the road. Could be anything. Talent can get you by in HS, but at this level there are many other intangibles that come into play. This is one of the reasons you sometimes see walk-ons make it while scholarship players never do.

  6. I don't believe for a moment that Burke was afraid or unwilling to compete. He was arguably the most talented safety that we had. Yet, according to the depth chart he wasn't listed on the first three teams. Instead the third team safeties were walk-ons with no rousing high school success. The only thing different than when he signed on is the coach and I can only guess that he and Boren were oil and water. He is the highest rated safety that we have signed other than a transfer and I believe that he was the most talented safety on the squad. I guess we'll find out if that is true depending on where he goes. If he is on the depth chart in the first or second year (starter or second team) then I believe that we'll know that the coach was the major factor in his leaving. Edit: Sorry this was supposed to be a response to the quote that is the second post above this.

  7. Anterrious Gray has improved quit a bit. He had a number of false starts earlier in the year, but has cleaned that up and is playing well. I am actually quite surprised with our OL and think they are doing a good job. They can always improve, but I don't think the OL is anywhere near the liability I expected coming in to this season.

  9. First round is underway and Sebastian Munoz is currently tied for second place at -5 through ten holes. Carlos Ortiz is tied for 25th at -1 through 10 as well.

  10. My point is transfers have been happening for decades. Troy Aikman didn’t need the transfer portal to transfer 35 years ago. I get being upset at transferring, but I feel like there is some sort of misconception about the transfer portal that seems to cause it to take on blame for transfers when it’s just a listing of the players transferring.

  11. Responses like this make me think that people believe the transfer portal is some entity that causes more players to transfer. It’s just a listing of all players who have chosen to transfer. Not like the transfer portal has enabled players to transfer. Players have always transferred, but for some reason when it happens now there always seems to be anger directed at the portal itself.

  12. He sounds like a quitter to me. I can't start for UNT so I'll just take my ball and go home. BTW, I hate this transfer portal crap!

  13. It is his decision to make, I just find it an odd one. There are all kinds of factors that could be involved. But just on a football basis, it would seem better to get in a year's work because you would not lose any eligibility by doing so. Even if you never play, a year of training and practice has a lot of value.

  16. No need to apologize. It’s just weird how a freshman like Upton Stout is playing well, and this one “talented” safety isn’t playing at all. I’m not bashing him, I just hope he gets it together.

  17. Burke has entered the transfer portal. Sometimes kids enter the portal and end up back at their original school, sometimes they move on. We shall see. The only other player we are "missing" is Jordan Rucker who has opted out of this season. No reason was given and nothing was said about him leaving the program.

  18. Do we seem to be losing a lot of good talent (supposedly) lately or is it just my imagination?

  19. I like both dudes and odds are we'll need 'em both down the line.... Alec Morris started a freakin' bowl game and put up 300 and 3 TDs (God we should have won that game) when Fine couldn't go.... My very humble useless take is that Bean has boatloads of upside and natural talent that could be deadly at this level of football, and I'd love to see it nurtutred and given a shot. I like Aune, he has a live arm, and he feels like a steady hand if anything goes wrong. But until the new guys get here, man, Bean feels like that guy that has potential to be a DUDE.

  22. High School talent anyway...remains to be seen if he can make the transition to college ball. Has to take care of business on and off the field in college and no one is all over him telling him how great he is every second. It's a transition. Some "talents" can make that transition, some can't. No idea why this kid is leaving after not even giving it a real go at UNT. I do wish him well and hope he finds a place where he can play and mature into a great college player. Next up!

  24. some people just think it is cooler to go away to college and leave their hometown. It part of the experience of going to college. Plus the locals have never shown much interest in Mean Green.

  26. A win always gets a team off the list. The convincing win probably moved us off the waiting list, especially with a bye upcoming.

  27. It’s looking like he doesn’t have to worry about losing a year of eligibility. Appears to be all but a done deal that the NCAA is going to allow players a one-time sit-out free transfer starting with the 2021 season.

  29. NT is apparently full of fans that think one of the top offenses in the land does it with a poor offensive line. As far as some of the comparisons being offered, NT is at this point not as good as SMU and very top G5 programs. NT has done well offensively against every team they have played. It is the defense that must improve. Hopefully, the Muts game signals a continuing improvement in the defense.

  31. I believe that a near full house does pump more adrenalin and enables those on the field to try harder. But, there is a lot more young talent available on this team and I think that they should be given a chance. I was never real big on redshirting unless the player needed more size or strength to compete. I would like to see a more lively sideline. I remember the Charlotte game especially. There was a prospect there from south Texas who had offers from both Charlotte and us in the stands. The Charlotte subs were yelling and swaying and looked much more lively than our sideline who, at times, weren't even facing the field...often talking to a teammate or just looking solemn. As you know, he chose Charlotte.

  35. So if we beat Houston Baptist, MTSU, UTEP,Rice, and UTSA we are not just bowl eligible at 5&5 but bowl WORTHY? Surely you jest.Of course we have gone to two bowl games in the past 20 years with losing records so I guess for UNT 5&5 would not be a stretch no matter who we beat.

  36. We signed 3 defensive line commits last class who all had multiple offers from P5 conference schools. The 4th d-linemen from last class is starting as a true Freshman (Tashoyn Johnson). O-line recruiting hasn’t been impressive but we just landed a transfer from Oklahoma State and got a commit from a high school offensive linemen who had offers from 4 different P5 conference schools. It is coming along on the lines, but even more importantly, I think, is the way our line has looked much improved under Mike Bloesch. He really seems to have the group playing well together and looks like he’s getting the most out of what we have.

  37. I agree with everyone else. Deserved. WB has a pretty good record when hiring new head coaches. He sometimes hangs on too long when it doesn't work, but the new hires have mostly been decent to sometimes even stellar. Other than maybe football and womens basketball, there has been almost no sport of late where NT hasn't been in the top third of the conference in the last two years. Delong is an example of that.

  39. Would've loved for Burke to have found his home in Denton and enjoyed the college experience there as much as I did. Wishing him the best at his next stop. Anyone know the NT student athlete exit interview process? I hope anyone leaving the program via transfer, graduation, or otherwise is interviewed to keep Wren and his staff aware of the player perspective within the programs.

  41. I think this situation is more Charlotte has been on him for a year... North Texas joined the race 3 weeks ago. Not a good look when he is 3 mins from campus and you are a year behind someone all the way across the country. It really screams you werent our A, B or C option... But come join us now.

  45. So Cal is 100% cancelling this game is what I took from this. Per Vito's article the buyout would be $1 mil, they get $1.9 mil to play Notre Dame instead, so they cancel the game against UNT and still come out $900,000 on top. Plus they aren't required to pay until the end of Feb in 2023, looks like a no brainer to me. The dates no longer work out for us to try and find another date so this to me absolutely signals the game is gone and we will get $1 million for it in 3 years. Only other possibility is that Cal decides to work with us in moving the game but I just don't see it happening when there is zero benefit for them to move things around on their end. They took a better deal and ran with it, sad reality of being a G5 team trying to schedule P5 teams is that they will always have the power.
