We signed 3 defensive line commits last class who all had multiple offers from P5 conference schools. The 4th d-linemen from last class is starting as a true Freshman (Tashoyn Johnson). O-line recruiting hasn’t been impressive but we just landed a transfer from Oklahoma State and got a commit from a high school offensive linemen who had offers from 4 different P5 conference schools. It is coming along on the lines, but even more importantly, I think, is the way our line has looked much improved under Mike Bloesch. He really seems to have the group playing well together and looks like he’s getting the most out of what we have.6 points

It's a real knee slapper - certainly. Or it could be that this is a bye week? Nothing to talk about this upcoming week. Maybe.5 points

I'm glad the guys were able to go on the road against a bad MT team and dig out a win. That's something Littrell has struggled to get the team to do during his time here. Having been at Apogee for all 3 of the previous games, I wonder if the lack of a crowd is playing a factor in how the team is playing: Normally, on defensive 3rd downs, Apogee can get rocking. That has certainly not been the case this year. Also, the "North"/"Texas" chant has been downright embarrassing, and probably needs to be shelved for this season. The band is way smaller than normal, ergo: not as loud. The cheerleaders aren't on the sidelines trying to pump up the crowd. I wonder if the guys come out and look at stands that are way less full than usual, and way less rowdy than usual, and think the fans are not behind them... then lose the confidence they used to gain from the crowd. That could carry over to their performance. On the flipside, they were able to go on the road, and bring their own energy to come away with a victory. If NT can go to El Paso and do the same, I'll believe this could be more than a hypothesis. And before anyone says, "Well yeah, NT SHOULD be able to go on the road and beat two terrible teams in MT & UTEP!!!"... I agree, but we also SHOULD have been able to lay waste to a terrible Charlotte team, and a rudderless SoMiss team at home too, and neither happened.4 points

Sounds like you’re going to see it your way and that’s fine. I never dogged Bean, unless you consider posting where his stats were inferior is dogging, but in a QB battle those seem like fair game to analyze to me. I’ve never called for him to be pulled during the game and I’ve explicitly stated I hope our focus is on developing him and not having a quick leash so he can grow through any first-year starting QB struggles. People begging for the QB who they don’t prefer to be pulled at every chance is what’s weird to me.3 points

I think it is ridiculous to assign "Team Bean" or "Team Aune" to this discussion. People expressed who was their favorite based on a number of factors, but I don't think they were wishing failure on the other QB. I liked Aune because of the poise I saw and his arm strength, but I also love Bean's crazy athleticism. Bean looked like a completely different QB against the MUTS, and I must say that if he can perform like that weekly then he should be the starter, no questions asked. Before someone claims I am holding him up to crazy expectations, let me clarify the previous sentence. The numbers were great, but what stood out to me was his decisiveness with the ball, crisp passes, making smart decisions with the RPO and his look of confidence. Prior to last week, he seemed to be a little "deer in the headlights" when in games. We just want to win, whether that be with Aune, Bean, Martin, Kuehne, etc... back there, I don't think anyone really cares, so assigning posters to "Team Bean" or "Team Aune" seems a little over the top.2 points

This is definitely one of the strangest cat fights I have seen on GMG. They usually only happen after a loss.2 points

That was the day that we turned around a season and went on a huge conference winning streak. Prior to this game, people were calling for the HC's head, people were pissed off and tired of losing and a favored MUTS team came to Fouts and we whipped their ass. I was sitting on the student side of Fouts with my nephew and had a blast. We have the opportunity to turn a similar season around a little over 19 years later. Go Mean Green.2 points

This seems to be a good example of the very thought process I’m referring to. I preferred Aune, gave stats and film explanations on why, so now I’m team Aune, and I’m not allowed to root for any other quarterback of the team I root for? That line of thinking is what’s strange. That and people whining in our game threads about our QB, calling for a change while he’s throwing for almost 400 yards and 3 TDs despite 6 dropped passes, jumping for any chance to pull him instead of actually backing him. But you might be on to something. I was only first pumping with no audible sounds coming out of my mouth like normal when Bean was scoring. Maybe it was because I was in the hospital with my wife and new born, but it probably was because I can’t root for the guy unless he had the superior statistics coming into the game.2 points

It is still a free country. People can be positive any time they want. I think everyone on the board was happy for Darden following the game. And many of us were very happy to see Bean finally get another shot at QB. For me, and this is my personal criteria, I need to see North Texas beat more winning programs. I highly doubt MT will finish their season with a winning record. The simple fact is Littrell hasn't consistently beaten winning programs since 2017, when we beat 5 of them. Since 2017, Littrell only beaten 1 (Southern Mississippi 2018). And, that is a major reason why I am done supporting him as our coach. LT is a thorn that must be removed, but we'll discuss that issue soon enough. Right now, I'm just hoping we can handle UTEP in El Paso. If we win two in a row, that would be nice.2 points

Sir, I was posting statistics that, to that point, were factual. I root for the Mean Green, regardless of who the QB is.2 points

We will, because once he looks over the field his head goes down to look for the snap. It was probably the best call/best luck that defense had all day and was timed perfectly because the safety barely got there in time for the corner to rush. The rb should be the one who saw that and picked him up.1 point

So you're saying Aune is the godfather of your newborn? The sheer audacity. Sarcasm aside, as someone who also preferred Aune at the beginning of the season, his turnovers are an issue, and I hope Bean can continue to improve throwing the ball. At this point as long as we're winning, nothing else matters.1 point

The strangest part to me is seeing Team Aune's team captain take off his jersey and quit at half time, then walk up into the stands like he didn't have anything to do with what's happening on the field. You didn't seem to have a problem making some pretty declarative statements in an ENTIRE thread called Aune vs Bean. You didn't find it strange then? Did you not think any of the posts you've made in the last month or so was taking a side? Are you admitting you were rooting against Bean in your comments, or does that only apply to the "other side" of that debate? I mean, I don't have a dog in this fight, because I never thought anyone on this board had enough information to make a call based on what we'd seen so far from these two (and still don't). And given what the coach has said in not naming a starter, I'd hazard a guess that they've both been as inconsistent in practice as they had in games. I'll fully admit I have no idea which of these two QBs gives us the best chance to win. If the coaches don't know, I CERTAINLY don't. I don't begrudge people the debate. That's what sports message boards are all about. But, c'mon, man. You're a part of it. You're the "people" you're referring to.1 point

From 2016-2018 we didn’t even have a tight end coach. Mainord was the inside receivers coach and Filani was the outside receivers coach. We also didn’t sign any tight ends in any of those 3 classes. Instead we started 4 receivers, with one inside receiver starting at the A position (Darden) and one inside receiver starting at the Y position (Michael Lawrence), which is now occupied by a tight end. For those first few years the only tight ends on the roster were Kelvin Smith and Caleb Chumley, who were both inherited from Mccarney. But we started to see a philosophical shift in 2018 as they used Kelvin Smith more and started recruiting tight ends at that time, getting a commitment from Alberding for the 2019 class, then signing Christian Lee and Jake Roberts in 2020. Now we have a tight end on the field in our base formations, even if he’s split out in the slot like Pirtle often is. Which is part of the reason I’m calling for more Khatib Lyles. Pirtle is pretty frequently lined up in the slot, as opposed to being on the line of scrimmage where the blocking requirements might make more sense to hurt Lyles’ chances.1 point

I Guess they will end up 6th in a field that included 8 teams that ended last season ranked, 5 of which were in the top 10. I'd say even though they couldn't quite repeat day one, they still executed pretty well on the home advantage.1 point

Would've loved for Burke to have found his home in Denton and enjoyed the college experience there as much as I did. Wishing him the best at his next stop. Anyone know the NT student athlete exit interview process? I hope anyone leaving the program via transfer, graduation, or otherwise is interviewed to keep Wren and his staff aware of the player perspective within the programs.1 point

Sorry. But that fumble was very much on him. Yes the defender shouldn't be free like that, but does not mean it is ok if that becomes a fumble. That fumble was no freak accident where the defender got lucky to poke it out. The defender was not invisible or covered up until the last second. With a bit of awareness Aune oughta be tucking that ball. Aune was blindly scanning one side downfield, showing a lack awareness and not taking care of the ball.1 point
