  1. First, allow me to preface my comments by stating that I don't think North Texas should fire Seth Littrell this year. Personally, I don't think any college coaches should be fired this year because of the whole COVID thing. Too many unforeseen circumstances have played havoc with this year. With that being said, the performance of the team both last year and this year has been nothing short of horrendous. Let's delve a little deeper. According to the USA Today coaching database (https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/football/coach), Seth Littrell is the sixth highest paid head football coach among the Group of 5 schools (minus the private schools which are not required to report financial compensation). The schools that pay their head football coaches more are South Florida, Central Florida, Navy, Cincinnati, and Houston. Boise State's head football coach, Bryan Harsin, is tied with Seth Littrell at sixth place. Some folks may shrug this information off as just the price of doing business, and I would agree with them. However, what I can not tolerate is the laissez-faire attitude around some in this fanbase that don't see the performance on the field, cobbled together with the salary of the head coach, as a major problem. Somehow, we should all just be happy to go to game. Seth Littrell makes $1.85 million a year. That is far more than any other North Texas coach has ever received. And as noted, it is sixth highest among peer institutions. With that kind of salary, together with the investments that have been made in the athletic department over the past decade, expectations have been raised! North Texas is simply not getting any return on the investment. In fact, I would argue that North Texas is not only losing money, but losing prestige as well. Yeah, I know, I know. 'Welcome to North Texas.' 'It's been this way forever.' Blah, blah, blah, blah. Seth Littrell better turn this crap around.

  3. Wow this is kick ass @BeyondTheGreen. Excellent production value. It seems like every facet of this program is top notch except the product on the field.

  5. Now that Vito has predicted a loss, watch the guys win. If that's the case, and Vito predicts another win all season, he needs to immediately have his parking pass revoked permanently. In all honesty, maybe a trip on the road will do the guys some good to re-focus on the game... who knows?

  6. I’m not going to get in a name-calling back and forth (besides being called a “jerk” is kinda cute) but Charlie, for the love of god, stay off any OU or UT message boards right now. They make little ol’ UNT look like a Sunday picnic.

  7. His buyout obviously goes down as the years left in his contract go down. I expect Seth is safe through next year, but unless he turns the team around; should be gone before the 2022 season.

  10. He hasn't beaten an FBS team with a winning record in three years. two of the three bowl games he's gotten us to have been blowouts, we were blown out in our only appearance in the CUSA championship. We've been blown out by every FBS team we've played this season. It's one thing to lost by 3,7, hell even 10 points. We aren't doing that. I expect to at least be competitive with teams that are *supposedly* on the same level as us. We aren't. I'm undermining Seth because the results speak for themselves. Has he left us better off than McCarney? Hell Yeah. Does he deserve a pass? Hell No. He's paid like the best coach in the conference. He needs to start coaching like the best coach in the conference.

  11. Guys and gals, can you confirm to me that 45 is still greater than 35?

  12. Absolutely. I'm tired of lazy writers putting Apogee behind Ford Stadium or the Alamodome when it comes to best college football venues in Texas.

  13. At least spell it right... Geeze. And you are right. I certainly take the blame for a bad football team.

  14. Every college football team is experiencing the same problems. I expect for 1.8. Million, highest paid CUSA coach, we would at bare minimum be competitive. At this point in the season our position in the bottom 10 is warranted.

  15. If all teams are eligible, there is very little chance we get to a bowl. They will go P5 heavy and only grab the G5’s that have a large following like the academies. But at least we can say we were bowl-eligible.

  16. I mean, this poll is one person's opinion, and much of it is an attempt to be funny, so we can't put too much emphasis on it, but sheesh. With all of the massive improvements that have come to the Athletics Department over the past 7 years: from President Smatresk's hire, Baker's hire, economic windfalls from mega-boosters like we've never seen, and Littrell's first 3 seasons of serious success (looking more like a mirage now)... THERE IS NO WAY A SPOT IN THIS POLL CAN BE ACCEPTABLE! I think Littrell's chances of ever being "hired away" are all but gone the way this season is progressing. HOWEVER, Wren Baker's chances of being "hired away" are still alive and well, and if he wants to keep that dream alive, he's going to need to do something quickly to rectify this situation. Man, I recall being super-nervous, and then extremely happy when Littrell flirted with KSSt, but returned. Right now, I'm wishing that hire was made so Baker could have found someone to keep this thing going here.

  17. Despite a miss-step here or there, Wren has been an absolute boon to our athletics dep. I was always more worried about him being stolen away than our coach. I trust in Wren, and trust he's doing what needs to be done behind the scenes to turn this around before it turns into (or has it already?) a trainwreck.

  18. Wouldn't mind seeing more Jevin Murray, because even if he's minutely better at taking angles, that would help immensely. EDIT: Glad to see Stout is back and starting. I left the game on Saturday when he got hurt and Charlotte scored on the exact same route against his replacement.

  22. Charlie, The people you're chiding here are the die-hards... or they wouldn't be on this message board. Of course they "support their team", and "give respect"... where it's due. The problem is, if there is anyone who is qualified to complain about the team when they are underperforming, it's not the guy writing the Bottom 10 article (who likely hasn't seen NT play), but these die-hard fans who sit through it at Apogee on Saturdays. None of that means they've (we've) given up on the team!

  24. Well earned ranking, surprised it took this long to be recognized in the Bottom 10. The team has been playing like it is their mission. I don't expect, but certainly hope this team can manage another win this year.

  26. Interesting article here from MeanGreen 247. 247 sports rates all teams in the nation based on the ratings that everyone on their roster has as recruits. We are ranked 82nd in the country and 6th in CUSA. This should go up as the guys who weren’t as highly rated make room for incoming freshmen who are more highly rated. https://247sports.com/college/north-texas/Article/North-Texas-Mean-GReen-football-247Sports-team-talent-composite-Where-does-UNT-rank-152933481/ But the interesting takeaway was that only 5 of our top 33 players, in terms of recruiting rating, are starting or seeing frequent playing time. The vast majority of those top 33 players are from the 2019 and 2020 classes. We’re getting about as good a contribution from our true freshmen as you would hope (Stout, Tashoyn Johnson, Jake Roberts) but to me the disappointing thing is the redshirt freshmen. They have been here a year to develop, they know the plays, they know the schemes. Why are so many of these highly rated guys stuck behind guys who weren’t highly recruited? I get that the best recruits aren’t always your best players, but I can’t help but wonder if we have more talented options than the ones we are going with.

  28. I think Littrell will be fine. He has a lot he needs to look in the mirror and fix, but I think he will win with this group of underclassmen. But still, allowing RV to stay as long as he did is what got us in this mess. Wren seems to like Littrell, but it sure would have been nice to have allowed him the opportunity to make that hire. Especially with how well his MBB hire has worked.

  29. Don't forget Bussey. We hold these guys, especially Fine, in high regard, but looking at the team now I still feel like we didn't really know how good those guys were while we had them. Feels like the program should have done more winning with all of that firepower than they did.

  32. Are we going to win? Lose? Is Vito giving a serious prediction, trying to right his past wrongs by keeping the tradition of being wrong which would mean they would win...or...trying to get one right so he's predicting a loss.

  35. Some shuffling in the secondary. Alex Morris in the two-deep for the first time (could really use his hitting if we’re gonna rely on our DBs to tackle this much). Murphy twins missing from the two deep, two weeks in a row for Grayson. Not expecting much re-shuffling at the top of the depth chart going forward.

  38. Excuses will be made. It's why we're North Texas. My turning point with SL was pretty early... We were 5-6 and vying for legitimate bowl eligibility. ALL we had to do was go beat a very bad UTEP (I believe they were 3-8) team in the 2016 regular season finale. We lost. Not only did we lose, we got hammered by 4 or 5 tds. Completely unprepared to stop UTEPs 1-man show. It was SLs first meaningful game here at UNT. Since, I'm not sure he's won a "meaningful" game. If anything, his team's look unprepared and outmatched in most, if not all.

  41. Six of CUSA's 14 teams are listed in recent bottom 25, with UNT coming in at #4. We play in a horse shit conference and still can't compete. On another note, this is our highest ranking ever in any poll.

  43. It's been suggested that they (esp. Fine) were so good that they often disguised how bad we really were. I don't completely buy that, but maybe it's time to give it some serious talk.

  44. Littrell is not another Benford. Benford never won anything. Littrell is another McCarney. He came in to a situation that was a basket case and won with the fired coach's players. But neither was able to recruit well enough on the lines to win once they lost the last guy's talent. Littrell had two 9 win seasons early, and Mac had a bowl trophy early, but neither were able to sustain success.
