  4. At this point in the season I believe, referring to CUSA, anyone can beat anyone on a given day. The dreaded covid can impact a program whether though players or cancellations. NT week off is going to impact our play going into conference play.....not in a good way. IMO.

  5. We really blew an opportunity to go undefeated... UCF probably would’ve got picked since they faced a harder schedule, but 2018 was the year. Seth and Graham choked so bad on offense, and we couldn’t hold a lead in the 2nd half to save our lives. Such a shame, and then only to get blown out by Utah state in the deserts of New Mexico

  6. I know a student-athlete (SA) who attends that university in Dallas which is hated by most on this forum. SA had to quarantine due to contact tracing. Right before and during quarantine, SA tested negative (rapid test) and then negative again (nasal swab test). Near the end of that quarantine, SA felt "allergies" were becoming more severe. SA went to be tested for third time and it was positive. That started a new period of quarantine. Before SA can start practicing again, SA must have EKG and blood work tested. If those results are normal, then SA takes a stress test. If results are normal, then SA is allowed to practice for a short period of time wearing a heart rate monitor on first day back. Then allowed to practice for a longer period of time on second day. SA then has to be medically cleared to participate in full length practices. SA is not a football player. I do not know the protocol for UNT or if there is a mandatory CUSA one. I hope UNT can keep the positive tests to a minimum because the quarantine process could have a huge impact on the season, especially if the odd situation happened as described above. Stay healthy!

  7. I was reminded about how serious it can be when I learned that it took The Rock over 3 weeks to beat it. If it takes a guy that looks like him 3 weeks then it'll put me in a casket for sure. Wishing you a speedy and fully recovery, and I'm glad my mom was able to retire from teaching last year.

  8. Speaking as someone who currently has Covid, it is the real thing. It is relentless and EVERY step should be taken to keep it from spreading. If it means we cancel a football game, then we cancel. If you think it isn't real or isn't that bad, then I would guess you probably have not had it.... and I hope you don't.

  10. Three things... 1) Like I am always telling my oldest child, there is something special about being a legacy (attending the same school your parents did) 2) I love this kid's aggression 3) In the portions of the highlight reel where he is sporting the black and green Desoto uni, those colors look real good on him

  12. The biggest issue with the Super Pit that many outside of the diehards don't realize is that the university owns the Super Pit. It is not an athletic's venue so that creates scheduling issues, etc... I am all for renovating, but I also realize that doing so doesn't eliminate the scheduling problems and other issues that arise due to the university's ownership.

  18. From a fan's view point, I see nothing wrong with the Super Pit. I prefer it over the cookie cutter arenas being built now. UTA and others newer arenas remind me of massive McDonalds. Obviously no NT construction is going to be approved, until it is clear the pandemic is over and not likely to return.

  20. It was fun being at the game Saturday and watching him fill-in and perform well for us. I was going to be furious if he got booted for targeting in the 2nd. Fingers crossed we see him again on 10/3!

  22. While I agree with removing seats for basketball, we need the Pit for graduations, which take that capacity. I'd be in for spending $10m in it where we can.

  24. I follow this online community regularly and find it extremely entertaining because I love DFW sports discussion and everybody seems to be super smart. When something falls into my wheelbarrow like college basketball arenas, I lend my expertise. You're welcome. I've probably seen 100-plus games at The Pit, and it's fine. But think about what has happened over the past...I don't know...eight years? Arlington spends $80 million on a new arena. It wasn't long after that when SMU announced a $42 million renovation to Moody, which turned out to be amazing. They went from 8,600 seats or so to 7,000 with luxury suites and better locker rooms and more space for concessions and such. It was extremely well done. Shortly after that, TCU announced that they were going to pour $50 million into Daniel-Meyer. Both renovations are top-notch. UNT could do the same with The Pit. For $30 million or $40 million or less, you could wipe out most of that upper deck that nobody uses anyway and make it suites and meeting spaces for season ticket holders and donors. If you tried to build that from scratch on the other side of the highway, it would cost you $90 million. Or more. And quite honestly, it wouldn't even be that nice. Baylor is going from the Ferrell Center at 10,00 seats to a new $400 million arena on campus that will seat 7,000. Smaller is better today. And it's not just what you see. It's offices, athletic training facilities, meeting rooms, places to play ping pong, etc.. As I stated, The Pit is fine. But the bottom line is, it's the fourth-best arena in DFW right now. It wouldn't take that much money to change that if you just spend some cash on The Pit. If you wanted to do that across the highway, it would cost a tremendous amount of money.

  25. I would take the proposed money that would be spent on a new basketball venue and use it to buy football players...football is where the real action is. Calm down, this is tongue in cheek.

  26. Glad you are getting better. This is what I have been talking about about in the other forum - this isn’t all about deaths. This nasty little bug is all over the place, causing immune or autoimmune problems, heart issues, and kidney problems (in addition to the lungs of course). I hope you keep improving!

  28. I had it way back in early march (moderate case, no hospitalization needed). The fever lasted over 2 weeks. The health department would not clear me to leave the house for over 2 months because of existing cough. Of course, this was the very beginning of the outbreak. So, maybe they were being overly cautious then. I would say that it took me about 5 months to get back to completely normal. Up until Covid, I hadn't been sick in about 15 years. In the 3 months right after Covid, I came down with 2 stomach viruses and also an MRSA infection. In other words, Covid seems to have knocked out my immune system. Hope you get better soon. It is a crazy and unpredictable virus.

  31. They should have planned to build a larger complex with a parking garage connected right across from the pit where the old stadium was. I suppose that’s still possible but I doubt they do it.

  33. I'm willing to bet a substantial amount of money that everyone in Green wanted to play. Players, Coaches, AD, everyone. We can accuse the guys of not being very good, but I wouldn't question their heart to play... no matter who's on the other side. If you're insinuating we're using this to get out of the game because the team thought they were going to lose, that's pretty crappy.

  36. Does anyone chuckle at people with unrealistic expectations? "Hey, great job North Texas! You went 10-1 ... but you had a bad game against SMU. Littrell ... you're fired. Let's get an all new-coaching staff in here and rebuild this thing in 3 to 4 years with their new philosophy". So it sounds like you'll only be happy if we go undefeated every year? Pretty tough bar to clear. My advice would be to buy a lot of TUMS because we're not going 10-1. In a related note, I'm assuming you picked UNT to go 11-0 in Brett Vito's "get your rear on the record" contest or whatever he calls it?

  37. We need to be fiscally responsible right now. Higher ed will continue to evolve as will focus on fees and value. I wouldn't push on a new arena.

  39. Should be interesting to follow. Personally, I don't believe extreme talent always translates into teaching skills. I've seen some really good players (and musicians) that just "got it", and didn't relate to students that needed to work to learn it. I wish him all the best, except when we're competing with Jackson St lol
