  6. My money is on Kason Martin. He may not start the season as the starter but I can see him overtaking Bean & Aune by mid-season. It's worth noting he was the lone QB to not throw an interception last Saturday. He also threw a 60 yd TD and his performance earned praise from coach after the scrimmage. The fact that coach Littrell made a point to mention Kason alongside Bean & Aune to me says this is a real 3-man race for the spot. Apparently Kason has practiced well up to this point and continues to make a good argument for playing time.

  14. ...and even with that overreaction my kid's nanny had to attend a Facebook funeral for her bestfriend who died in Houston of COVID complications in the past week. And my best friend's Aunt-in-law died of COVID in Lewisville. This past Sunday my uncle in Colorado was rushed to the hospital with heart failure and he tested positive for COVID - still alive. Just digits on the 180,000... but luckily it is that low.

  19. Absolutely no one has ever done less with more than the Texas Longhorns. Most money in college athletics...sit in the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country as the premier program in the state...play in a very mediocre conference that they basically own, financially and media-wise... And then go out and lose 4-7 games a year. Since 2010, its one thing to lose to OU(almost every time), LSU, ND, USC, and even Okie State. But they have been owned by TCU and KSU. They have lost games to Iowa State, Baylor, WVU, Maryland (twice), and KANSAS (yes, in football). And there is absolutely nothing about their current coach that makes me believe they have the guy to lead them back to glory...who, come to think of it, might actually be coaching at UNC right now.

  20. Fox, FS1 and FSSW hold no rights to any games being played on the opening weekend and the only to get any rights would have been sub license from ESPN or CBSSN. The question is why isn't CUSA primary partner CBSSN taking any of the three CUSA games that weekend. They aren't even carrying any games and hold no rights to NHL, NBA, MLB or even the US Open Tennis which will dominant ESPN2 that weekend.

  21. The best part was when the Big XII said "We have to ask Texas first, but otherwise we're in" So true...and funny, because OU is the powerhouse in that conference And then there's this...

  22. Simply incredible with all of the sports channels looking for content that won't be filled with NBA or NHL we can't get somewhere else other than ESPN3. What a joke. Maybe whatever weak television rights deal we have in place means we can't just move to FS or CBSSN? ESPNEWS right now is slated to show cornhole at that time!

  24. I spoke with the ticket office this morning and they said they are still working on kick times, including for this game. The TV and streaming deals are driving the kick times and with the B1G changes, it’s taking a while for the adjusted TV plans to sort out.

  25. One of my guests for that game (older man) passed out from heat exhaustion in the first quarter. We spent the second half in the hospital. He's an smu grad and we tease that he did it just to get out of watching that ass kicking.

  32. No, I was literally told “I see where you’ve already paid for your tickets. Let me issue you a REFUND” And, it’s the strangest thing but my credit card shows a pending charge from the “record keeping.” My reading comprehension, and ears when I was actually on the phone, are just fine

  33. time to reboot the tried and true it must be football season thread. this year though, I think we should up the ante. we'll start with normal rules...pick your player, post some stats after each game but given 2020 is such a different season and pushing forward with a game during a pandemic means a real assessment of what we prioritize. I think we should make things a bit more fun: - if your adoptee contracts COVID-19 during the season you make a $1000 donation to the Mean Green Scholarship fund - if your adoptee contracts COVID-19 during the season and requires a respirator, it's $5000 to the World Health Organization - if your adoptee dies of COVID-19 during the season, $10,000 to their family and toward their funeral and final expenses I've had Deion Hair-Griffen since he arrived on campus so I'll stick with him. 34. Whenever we get great transfers I always wonder why they didn't come to North Texas in the first place. A big time talent that stays and finishes here could set records and get buildings named after them. GO MEAN GREEN

  36. I know this isn't Mean Green Football related, but thought it would be of interest to the readers here. The MOD's can move this is there is a better place. They are also cutting four sports. https://www.athleticbusiness.com/college/iowa-ad-cut-teams-can-t-be-saved-as-dept-takes-out-loan.html?eid=324696786&bid=2670458 "Iowa is projecting about $100 million of lost revenue and an overall deficit between $60-75 million this fiscal year. Barta expects cutting four sports, bringing Iowa down to 20 programs, will save about $5 million each year. HawkCentral, which noted that only Iowa’s football and men’s basketball teams are profitable, reported it may take 15 years for the university to pay off the $75 million loan" Considering their annual take from being in the Big Ten and a "P5", this was amazing to me and reflects how some of these institutions have lived in the now with no consideration of fiscal responsibility. It is mind boggling that these universities that take in so much money each year, don't put any back as a contingency fund of some sort. I realize that there was no way to predict the Covid-19 pandemic and its effects, but it is still baffling that some of these schools were living on the edge financially from year to year.
