  1. All monuments and statues seem to offend someone .... I see that a Jimmy Hendricks statue was painted over ... Guess some religious extremist that opposes Rock and Roll did it . --- Even the Viet Nam memorial was vandalized ( war protester?) ---Where does it end..??

  3. You got me man...I hate my kids and other kids so much that I am not concerned with sending them to school. Good on you dude...you figured me out. I'll buy ya a beer at the next home game as a congratulatory gesture.

  4. Sending them is bad ..... Staying at home is bad... Maybe the answer is dividing a room up into 2-3 groups and sending them every other day or whatever is the answer.... helps keep them apart more (smaller groups) but still face to face some but more work at home ... ... No easy answers. -- but many have no access to computers to learn even . Having taught public school (30 years) and college classes (41 years) I can tell you students that took online classes in Math/science are not near as good as those those that were in a classroom. Maybe English or History... don't know ... Foreign language and many others don't work well either.

  6. It’s not a white-washed narrative. It’s our country’s history. We may not not like certain parts of it, but we can’t just get rid of the parts we don’t like and act like they never existed. It’s just ridiculous to hold men of the 1700’s and 1800’s to the standards of today. Men who, by the way, founded/established this great country. Well, I always thought it was great until the last few months when I’ve been enlightened to find out it’s terrible and has been since 1776.

  7. I'm mostly fine with the Rebel statues coming down. Especially the ones for the leaders (common soldiers I'm a bit more on the fence on, but I'm not gonna throw a fuss over) of the CSA. But all the other stuff - like the Founders, US Grant, etc. - is frankly ticking me off.

  9. Decisions certainly don't need to be rushed. But, unless there is a major breakthrough soon regarding Covid-19, I expect the same for college football. In fact, I expect the NBA, NCAA BB, MLB, NHL and eventually the NFL to all cancel this season. More and more professional players are speaking out about not wanting to play with this virus still peaking. That mentality, plus active illnesses, are going to cause a diluted product on the field, with no fans and completely messed up schedules. In the end, I think the sports owners, university presidents, etc will think it is just not worth the risk to play. Then, you have to throw in the possible social implications of making the wrong decision by putting players in danger. Nobody will want to be "that guy" or woman that puts players lives in danger, especially when a sports figure passes away from CV. As if that isn't enough, you have all the political protests to deal with in the upcoming season. The dominoes are already lined up. It's just a matter of who will knock over the first one. Just MHO. It's a real shame. Sports (without politics) are badly needed now.

  12. North Texas football will be looking to bounce back from an injury-filled 4-8 season in 2019 and looking to make a bowl game in 2020. When head coach Seth Littrell took over the North Texas football program in 2016, he was taking over a team that had just finished 1-11. He took them to a bowl the next season and his first three seasons and North Texas football seemed to be a program on the rise. 13. Great point. Started off with confederate monuments, now it is spreading to include basically anything with the founding of America. Statutes of anti-slavery supporters has been vandalized. As a side note, have you heard of any protest dealing with the Statue of Lenin, in Seattle? As I said, the aim is quickly becoming an attempt to erase American history.

  19. Back in March when the pandemic really kicked into gear here, I felt like the end goal was always the fall. Do what we can as a society to get the virus under control, relieve hospital capacity, and hopefully be ready to get things mostly back to normal when the next school year and football season started. Regardless of how one might view or attribute the causes or legitimacy of the concern, we have failed in this, especially compared to other countries. I hope we see us a country band together and take this opportunity as a do-over for those who maybe did not pull their weight in terms of attempting to flatten the curve. Because if we all start taking this seriously as a collective, there is time to get a real football season back in the fall. But if we keep on our current trajectory, who knows when we will get football back? And at that point, the problems will likely be much bigger than just getting football back.

  21. Last year for whatever reason, the team was not very good. Fine was injured most of the time and the defense was just bad. Obviously, a team can go from 9 wins to 4, but you don't seem to believe that a team can go from 4 wins to nine. No I am not predicting 9 NT wins, but I think 7 is possible. Reasons NT could be substantially better next season (whenever that happens): Littrell has demonstrated he is a good coach, last year notwithstanding NT hopefully significantly improved the coordinator positions Recruiting classes for last two years appear strong CUSA is far from a strong league Defense should be much better Linebackers and defensive line should be among the best in the league DB has a lot of young unproven talent to work with There is a strong chance that QB play will be better than the injured Fine Both Aune and Bean appear much more capable of being duel threats NT is very deep at running backs and wide receivers Offensive line loses 3 starters, but should be at least as good as last year. Obviously, you can list rationale for another poor season, but there definitely another possibility.

  22. I mean, lingering after effects was true with the Spanish Flu as well. People were thought to have been impacted by years from it. It's hypothesized by some historians that it may have contributed to President Wilson's stroke in late 1919 (he had the flu in March). But at the end of the day when the pandemic is discussed in historic terms, deaths is the headliner.

  24. To follow up on an earlier narrative about why deaths are not the gold standard: https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-warning-from-italy-effects-of-covid-19-could-be-worse-than-first-thought-12027348 The virus is a systemic infection that affects all the organs of the body, not, as was previously thought, just a respiratory disease, they say. The physicians warn that people who do not consider themselves in a vulnerable group and aren't concerned at contracting the disease could be putting themselves in danger of life-changing illnesses if they ignore the rules to keep safe. "At first, initially, we thought it was a bad flu, then we thought it was a bad flu with a very bad pneumonia, it was the phase when you came here, but subsequently we discovered that it is a systemic illness with vessel damage in the whole body with renal involvement, cerebral involvement," "So we are seeing other acute manifestations of renal failure that require dialysis; or stroke, and then acute myocardial infarction, so a lot of complications or other manifestations of the virus. "And also now we see a significant proportion of the population with chronic damage from the virus."

  28. If they’d locked things down through the summer, I’d be ok with schools opening in fall. But it’s been a total cluster F to this point. So who knows what’s going to happen. Looks like my son will be playing Football in the spring as well due to rumors UIL is going to push it back. Yeah, options suck at this point but our country was too slow to respond and here we are wading knee deep in our own diarrhea. Shoulda took that pepto bismol whilen the stomach was rumbling and everyone else was shitting their beds. Now we’re shitting the entire house...

  29. The truth is all of our options are garbage. The good news is that serious complications from COVID to children are vanishingly rare and probably much less so than flu. I also heard on the news yesterday that children aren't very good at transmitting it either (though who knows how accurate that is). Of course, there is a chance the teachers could get sick or the kids would bring it home to their family (which I understand to be the bigger concern than the kids themselves). The thing is that online school is a really really poor substitute, for younger kids especially. It also means that the kids hurt the most by not having physical school are those kids who are already underserved and/or don't have a supportive family structure. IMHO, the best of the terrible options would be to have kids attend school unless they or someone in their household is in a high-risk group. Those who couldn't attend could stay online. I'm not sure what would happen to teachers who are high risk though. I guess they might have to take a leave of absence in some cases. That's terrible to say..but things are terrible.

  30. If schools are being attended then sports should be played. Class sizes smaller?? No lunch?? I don't see how you can attend classes in confined spaces with central air handling and be ok but God forbid your outside you'll come down with the covid. Same rational you can have thousands marching in protest and that's ok but people in a bar are dangerous........

  32. I'm aware, just overstating a need for solutions that'll work. There's no way to go back and fix mistakes from the beginning of this, it's a matter of not letting it get worse when it doesn't need to.

  33. “I don't worry that much about the players because they're young and healthy and with proper treatment could could be back in playing shape in a short period of time.” - Sorry, I’m not usually a very vocal member of this board, but this is an incredibly irresponsible point of view. Many, many thousands of young people have died from this disease. The fact that any of us would knowingly put these young men in harms way...it’s deplorable y’all.

  35. “... a literal change in history...” Sorry Skipper, but you can’t change history, literally or otherwise. Some would try, but what happened, happened and you can’t change it. Thankfully we can learn from it, unless we erase it and future generations are unable to do so. No, I didn’t read the article. It was a long day at work and I just didn’t have it in me😂😂

  36. Makes no sense to get ahead of the power curve. You really think the presidents want to pre-emptively cancel millions in guarantee games and have to defend that call when they can wait for the P5 schools to cancel and then argue they should be paid because TAMU is still playing, just not playing UNT?

  37. Maybe I missed it, but I hadn’t seen an official announcement on pod play being discontinued. And we will get UTEP twice. If UTEP’s schedule is an indication, we will probably play Rice, UTEP, UTSA, La Tech, and Southern Miss twice each, then each of the other 8 teams in the conference once each. Would make sense that the conference is looking to cut down on travel as much as possible.

  38. No Mark, I don't know him at all, nor his real life self. Zero. None. I don't claim to know. I know what he typed: "Kids need to be in school. I have zero fear of sending mine." He was not talking as a teacher with his two sentences. He was talking as a parent and his lack of fear for his kids. So.. That is what I responded to. If he has no fear for his fellow teachers or administrators - that is wonderful. I am glad he/she will be back in the classroom. </woke>

I’m really glad he doesn’t live in a double-wide or you’d certainly consider him to be beneath you. I always thought “the left” was against stereotypes. You know, because they can be considered offensive and make people feel bad. I guess I was mistaken.

  43. No a loosing season is when you play with less restraint, I guess. We both apparently agree that Littrell has to earn his money next year. What I expect is that NT battle for a conference championship and at least is competitive in the out of conference against UH and SMU. There is a post somewhere that thinks that SL should get an extension if NT goes 6-6. I think we agree that record is not good enough even to keep his job much less be rewarded. By the way, SL didn't give himself a raise, that was the AD and probably the BOD. So there is no bone to pick with him. However, I am at the point that just seeing NT sports good or bad would be a great threat.

  44. Are you sure he doesn’t play for North Texas State? They get confused for us a lot.

  45. On that cheerful note. Although I am not sure what a loosing season is. I do agree that Tulsa is not going anywhere and have no idea why anyone thinks even if they did that NT would benefit. I really don't know why so many seem to assume that the NT football just can't win against mighty CUSA competition. If it is a losing season I expect SL will be gone, but I really think the team will be significantly better than the gloom and doomers predict. On the bright side, SL will perform and we can go back to worrying when he is going to leave for greener pastures. The positive is if SL either leaves or is fired, the NT job should be one of the most attractive in all G5 land.
