  1. Is one of the options a new commissioner?

  5. Why? Firing both coordinators is never a good sign and the highest paid coach in the conference should not have multiple non-bowl years.

  7. Well maybe we should take this discussion offline but holy hell my experience has been 200% the opposite.

  8. For the record I am very concerned about how the PRC uses students to spy or steal tech. That’s a real thing. But most people just want a good education to either stay in the US and contribute or to return home and make it better there. I prefer the latter, but understand that our country often needs the former.

  9. Yes there are problems with student visas. I have issued them. It is a tiny percentage that try to commit fraud and most are caught by State Department officers. Pro tip: DHS does little to protect you or stop illegal immigration. US universities rely on international students. They pay a LOT of money in general to attend our schools. Some NT program could fail without international students. Anyone here proud of our tennis team? It will cease to exist.

  11. Makes no sense to get ahead of the power curve. You really think the presidents want to pre-emptively cancel millions in guarantee games and have to defend that call when they can wait for the P5 schools to cancel and then argue they should be paid because TAMU is still playing, just not playing UNT?

  12. Limiting games to conference only will be done to eliminate the need to coordinate with other leagues. Bowl games would be much more difficult to schedule. Limiting games to conference only, seems stupid if the goal is less travel. Seems obvious, that teams to gain bowl eligibility, all they would have to do is have a .500 record. Realistily, I doubt there is any college football until the virus is under control and we are far from that.
    4 points
  13. I disagree. We're slated to receive $1.25 MILLION dollars from TAMU. We're in a severe budget crunch due to Covid-19. 1.25 M would go a long way to help offset the current financial losses.

  14. Are we waiting on a vaccine? Are they going to make a vaccine for every virus and bacteria? Will we just wait 10 years until the virus has gone through the whole population? How many people die from unusual complications of other mostly ordinary infections? Maybe we should wait until all those run their courses. Maybe we should all live in individual bubbles until we all just die from being unable to reproduce or exist on planet Earth.

  16. State Department doesn't enforce much on the visa overstay side. Diplomatic Security is small and mostly overseas. DHS actually does more of the enforcement domestically and its rampant. Not trying to be argumentative or enter into a debate but to offer a pro tip that DHS does little to curb illegal immigration nor committed to public safety is sadly not accurate at all. The general public is massively uninformed as to what federal agencies actually do and what actually goes on that they will never see or hear about. Hopefully this unfortunate short term issue with students is quickly resolved and not punitive. I'd hate to see a kid honestly going to school get hurt by this mess we are all in that is 2020.

  17. So this virus knows the difference between a conference game and a non-conference game? Amazing.

  18. Always open to discussion and never assume I'm always right, instead of making some lame joke let's discuss, that's the whole point of this forum after all. I'd love to hear what part of my statement is bad in your mind. If you can find me an example of a coach who had a decent year and is completely safe in their job but also fired both coordinators I'm all ears. We are paying a very hefty fee for Littrell, that's a fact not an opinion. Many coaches just within our own conference are doing more with a smaller contract and supposedly less talented players. If you believe that Littrell can go 4-8 again this year and be secure in his job I would love to hear the reasoning behind that.

  19. I figure if Junior Samples does well as coach and they get back to mediocre in the SEC they'll be calling.
    3 points
  20. Yeah, that's my fear. Especially if somehow we are still on the hook to play HBU. Not only are we not getting the paycheck from A&M, but we have to pay HBU, and only keep the stadium at 50% capacity, half of which are for students that don't pay at the gate (granted they already pay quite a bit in fees).

  21. Typical G5 is going to lose about 5% of their budget from game guarantees. Even if crowds are allowed with no social distancing restrictions ticket sales will be down everywhere I imagine if we have games the national average attendance will be lowest of most of our lifetimes. Sponsors going to want a break if crowds are restricted and fewer games played. Radio networks same thing. Enrollment is going to be down as well so schools will have to cut expenses. The B1G and presumably soon ACC and Pac12 are in asset protection mode. ESPN and Fox don’t shell out those bucks for South Dakota State at Nebraska, they know little to nothing about the non-conference slate when they bid. They are paying for intra-conference games. B1G can spread 9 games over 14 weeks to meet obligations and have rescheduling flexibility. B1G will get 100% or close to it of their TV if they can play the league season

  22. Maybe I missed it, but I hadn’t seen an official announcement on pod play being discontinued. And we will get UTEP twice. If UTEP’s schedule is an indication, we will probably play Rice, UTEP, UTSA, La Tech, and Southern Miss twice each, then each of the other 8 teams in the conference once each. Would make sense that the conference is looking to cut down on travel as much as possible.

  25. With 8 conference games I am thinking 4-4 is realistic? Wins over UTSA UTEP MUTS and Charlotte? Losses against the good teams like La Tech UAB, Southern Miss and Rice.

  26. I've been extremely silent, since I don't have a lot of fans on my take of the "million dollar man" (spoiler: I am not a huge fan) But, for what we are paying for and what we are getting? This is 100% absolute grade A prime pure as the hope diamond Bullsh!t if we aren't one of the "good" teams. I'm not questioning you...you are spot on. I'm questioning our coaches because this is totally unacceptable. If we go 4-4 with Million dollar Seth, with our talent, and still consider half the conference above us? We are being robbed.

  31. If they go to only conference games, why have bowls?
    2 points
  32. If we, and others play only conference games there will be a complete waiver on the number of wins required if there are bowl games. Many of the P5 spots would go unfilled if the P5 schools do not have the OOC games to add 3 or 4 wins. The P5's will no let this happen

  33. Yeah. I agree. I think it's pretty unlikely at this point. The logistics of it working out seem too complex to me unless you're going to quarantine the entire teams for the whole season. I could see teams maybe playing a couple exhibition games against local opponents, but not much more. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

  34. I like your thoughts, @Coach Andy Mac I think by the time Rice gets here we're clicking as a team and get the W. 5-3 is my guess. L vs Southern Miss W vs Charlotte W vs MUT W vs UTEP L vs LaTech L vs UAB W vs Rice W vs UTSA I just want the boys to play!

  36. I wonder what the criteria would be for bowl games, or will there even be bowl games? Will teams have to play every member of a conference to get to 6 wins?

  37. Also, if I remember correctly, he was a pretty late hire when he came on. So that first year he had very little impact on the roster (minus #6 of course)

  38. Yep, Neb. would not stand a chance on that game ,

  39. Me too. But that is where we are this year. No OL and new QB with little meaningful game time. The good news is that our newer players are theoretically more talented - with the exception of the OL.

  40. The Supreme Court said Thursday that a large swath of eastern Oklahoma remains an American Indian reservation, a decision with potential implications for nearly 2 million residents and one of the most significant victories for tribal rights in years. The land at issue contains much of Tulsa, the state’s second-largest city. The question for the court was whether Congress officially eliminated the Muscogee (Creek) Nation reservation when Oklahoma became a state in 1907. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/courts_law/supreme-court-says-much-of-eastern-oklahoma-remains-indian-land/2020/07/09/7bdc42d4-c1e2-11ea-9fdd-b7ac6b051dc8_story.html?fbclid=IwAR2EJM_hMv9SI7oWfQZzgashc4gQ60dcd5g4UkvON5y-RFOg6-RuJrsH2g8

  43. It's a rough subject. On one hand, there's no quicker way to spread the virus. On the other, school districts are running out of money and parents are struggling with adding "teacher" to their resume or even being able to be home at all to take care of kids. I don't think kids should go back to school, because it's going to be a catastrophe. However, I'd be lying if I said this is a cut and dry issue.

  44. Typically firing both coordinators to save face is not something a coach who is super secure in his position does, can't imagine they did too much research on the G5 coaches for this article. We have a handful of challenging games this year, but the highest paid coach in the conference and one of the highest in all of G5 should not miss a bowl game 2 years in a row without feeling a ton of heat under his seat in my opinion.
