  1. "Hefty Sum" may be a bit of a sensationalized inflammatory headline. There are 130 schools in the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. According to USA Today, 331 NCAA assistant football coaches made as much or more in 2019 than Bowen is slated to be paid in 2020. 2019 FBS Assistant Football Coach Salaries .

  4. Jordan Brown made his commitment to play college football at North Texas before the 2019 season, but his journey with the Mean Green didn’t officially begin until late last month. The former Huntsville standout arrived in Denton on June 22, and has been working out with the team since. Brown notes that outside of some early jitters, everything has “been really good.” “When I first started working out I was kind of nervous, but then you find out it's kind of like high school,” he said. “It's a little more intense, but you just have to be mentally strong and it's all the same.” Brown, who shared honors as District 10-5A, Division II’s Defensive MVP last season, recognizes that his time with the Hornets helped prepare him to take his talents to the next level. “That program played a big part in this,” he added. “With that program, you have to be mentally tough to get through some of the things ... and that's helped me get through these workouts in college.” The versatile linebacker led the district’s top defense in 2019, recording 97 tackles, four sacks, 12 tackles for loss, two interceptions, one fumble recovery and one defensive touchdown in nine regular season games. He proceeded to come up big in the postseason, helping the Hornets notch a pair of playoff victories. read more: https://www.itemonline.com/sports/huntsville-prepared-jordan-brown-for-start-of-north-texas-football-career/article_01752e60-c143-11ea-8c30-7bcd1efcdc2c.html

  6. I'm leaning towards there will be a season this year. The reason is that the P5s will lose combined multi-millions if there's not. That could mean that only FBS will have a fall season but another question is will it start on time? Maybe, if the summer heat reduces the spread of the virus. I don't worry that much about the players because they're young and healthy and with proper treatment could could be back in playing shape in a short period of time. I saw where Texas Tech had 20 something test positive when they reported and all but 2 are now negative. I've got the longest row to hoe because of my age and I've been diabetic for a long time although that is improving. I've bought my season tickets so I'll be there barring a turn for the worse. We should know more this week.

  7. OK....looking back at the graph...I see what you're saying now...where your conclusion comes from. I would be curious to see Texas excess deaths compared to Covid Deaths. My assumption based on that graph is the trend would be the same. Comparing US numbers to Texas numbers doesn't make sense....considering all the excess deaths that came from New York...also would like to see how many of those Covid deaths had pre-existing conditions. No I'm not trying to kill grandma but it's still important.

  11. For starters: Lead by example. Clearly state this is not a hoax and the dangers are real. The top leaders need to be seen wearing a mask and showing the recommended protocol. Do not have mass gatherings (rallies?) in locations that have no met the CDC recommendations for public gatherings. Enforce a mask policy at your gathers (SD, DC 4th celebrations). Offer as much assistance as required and wanted by the states with an outbreak (without saying - this means to not threaten 'liberal' states that don't align with the President's ego). Don't lie! Stop saying that everyone who wants a test can get a test. Stop lying about the capability of tests. That is just the baseline what I would expect from an administration when so many people are affected by this sickness. Instead this administration inserts doubt into the numbers or the seriousness - ignore all their own recommendations - go to twitter to show off how much they are not following the CDC policies. Trump goes on TV and still is saying this will "disappear" and signs are looking good. Passing off the theory the summer heat will take care of it (as we saw parroted at gmg - a lot). So how about some good old fashioned hat holding on the things they got wrong and show some leadership on getting this back on track? All of this certainly emboldens those that want to doubt and want to blindly follow Trump to the Earth's end.

  13. The problem is the symptoms of Covid are identical to a sinus infection ,a cold or bad allergies...and the state has said they will count it as a case. So OF COURSE the numbers are going to explode...and we're supposed to expect policy to be made based on your above assumption? If that's the case...I really don't have anything else to say. The cases are never going to come down if that's their criteria...how could they?

  14. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db67.htm#:~:text=The percentage of deaths for, frequently autopsied causes of death. For your notion to not believe numbers: "In 1972, almost 1 out of 5 deaths were autopsied. From 1972 through 2003, however, the autopsy rate dropped 58 percent from 19.3 percent to 8.1 percent. Although the autopsy rate has increased slightly since 2003, only 8.5 percent, or fewer than 1 out of 10 deaths, were autopsied in 2007" That is from the CDC itself. How can you trust the heart disease numbers? Cancer numbers? Alcohol poisoning deaths? There was no 100% confirmation. But when you find a person with an empty handle of Vodka in their bed .. you don't need it. Same for COVID. There are not shifting around of deaths here - there are still a TON more deaths. What accounts for that if not COVID? You think magically there is some other thing killing people?

  15. 1) As you know there is a resource problem. We can't run labs on all the excess deaths. It is not possible. Just purely, a waste of resources for a limited commodity for the living - when the dead do not care. I 2) The labs have a fairly high false NEGATIVE problem. It's well documented and it leads to the scarcity of tests. If a physician has to run two tests to try to compensate for the inherent false positive problem - we have an issue. 3) Medicine is 'practiced' as a they say. There are a lot of clues that need to be tied together to get a 'probable cause' and then they go with it and see how they can fix it. If a person is known to have a seizure condition and they drove off the road in a lightning storm, the medical examiner will not do an autopsy - they will make it a likely death from a seizure while driving. Yes? No one is going to to rip open their brain and try to prove it. They use context clues. Same for medicine. If they were near proximity to a positive COVID person, they are showing symptoms and but the FDA (other less accurate test) comes back false .... but all the other factors point to a COVID diagnosis, it should be noted as such. If this person ends up hospitalized - they will run another COVID test - and it should come back more accurately based on the probability .... and if they died of the symptoms of COVID ... put all the pieces together and call a duck a duck. You don't need to have some duck DNA expert to look at that dead duck. So yes - you should believe the numbers. The excess death numbers are THROUGH THE ROOF. Texas is way under reporting. Not requiring a positive PCR to call a COVID a COVID saves resources, time and lets medical reasoning prevail.

  19. New Zealand, Italy, Taiwan, really any country that managed to get their case counts under some kind of control. If we can't borrow things wholesale, then small parts. Some of it might ask folks to things they aren't comfortable with, but if it saves lives and helps produce consistent economic activity in the long run, it'll probably be better than the start/stop we have here.

I know that someone probably showed him this site: https:/www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ and he rushed out and based his "99% of people who get it are harmless" comment on the below graphic. Because...that's literally what that says. It doesn't mean I should not wear a mask when I go to the store.... 26. I’ve been looking into ways to host virtual watch parties of games. I’ve done a couple recently over Facebook Watch watching past games. Some of you have stopped by for a bit. It’s nowhere near as great as going to a live game, but still fun to watch a little football with North Texas faithful.

  27. I've seen this elsewhere, but seriously, why can't we just call the football games a protest? The scientific and medical experts have told us you can't spread Covid at a protest and actually there are articles out there that say protests actually DECREASE the spread of Covid. The logical thing to do to slow the spread would be to have MORE football games...I mean protests....at Apogee.... Just put all those folks in green and teach them the "NORTH" "TEXAS" chant. Turn the fists into claws....(three fingers or four fingers depending on your generation...I'm assuming that crowd would go with the more modern, three finger eagle claw) With masks, the sound may be a tad muffled but there's virtually zero risk of spreading Covid if the crowd is labeled as a "protest" vs any other crowd. It's all about the label... We could break attendance records this year....

If WKU is already “cutting to the bone”, G5 schools will be lopping off entire body parts if there is no football this fall. Let’s be real, the potential for college football this fall is looking bleaker by the day. Heck, the reduction in ticket sales may already be a fatal blow to some programs. Out of financial necessity, some Universities will be forced to cut additional sports teams, putting them under the required 16 teams for FBS eligibility. Cough::Tulsa::cough I hope with us being a large public university in DFW, we can weather this storm and take Tulsa’s place in the AAC.

  30. Yes - there are a TON more deaths. I would consider 20k-5k more deaths a week over the standard deviation to be a TON. I don't know your definition. But I think a whole Apogee stadium of people dead in a week as a TON. Also note the CDC on their reporting - recent reporting is inaccurate since only 60% of deaths are reported within 10 days. So there can be a few week lag on numbers. I mean look at that... some of those really bad weeks in this pandemic shows expected trend to be less than 60k deaths for that week ... and we recorded close to pushing 80k. That is what contact tracing is trying to prevent -- another April and May in 5 cities.

  34. Coaches were hired before the pandemic so the salaries would not have been out of line at the time...especially for the quality that we are getting. I believe that this coaching staff is a vast improvement over the 2019 staff and will have more wins even with the tougher schedule. They've had more time to get acclimated to the system and the players due to the virus and the players seem pleased with the coaching changes. I'll be terribly disappointed if we're not bowl eligible this coming season.

  35. Yeh - know you didn't say "best words." Obviously that is using Trump's own best words to show his use of best words. And for the record - I am terrible and counting lines on a cell phone screen. To err is human, no? I count six, not seven and 2 or the 6 still. But my l33t text parsing skills can be wrong. 😉 But really - it kind of rubs me the wrong way how you can wave your hands in the air and seem to indicate that his words just are just not well placed - that he can do better. Like he is just mumbling or just not conveying how he really feels accurately. His words are actions. It takes actual effort to be so wrong on so many things. To pick up and tweet for often. To send out his press secretary to lie so often about the obvious. To have Pence peddle some half-truths about how we are sooooooo lucky that young people are getting it now. To press the point that "99% of people who get China-Virus is completely harmless" ... it is dangerous. Those words are actions. So yeh - stopping those actions is a starting point.

  36. The longer they can drag it out the more donations and season tickets they can sell to offset their losses. No doubt, this deal is going to be extremely tough on Smatresk and the like. These million dollar coaching salaries have been insulated based on revenue. How can a college charge as much when it will all be online???

And yes, we are mentioning race seeing as how the post says "NFL Redskins to change their name?". It's not exactly an apples to apples comparison, but it was one of the first examples to cross my mind in response to your "majority rules" beliefs.
