  1. They didn't have a choice? At first, but after succeeding in the WAC, they went to CUSA--when it was actually really good. Then, when the Big East took the CUSA teams that were worth it for their footprint (Louisville, Cincy, USF), TCU jumped ship as soon as CUSA added SMU, Rice, Tulsa, and others, and went to the MWC. Those were choices... And those choices allowed a Texas team to beat the hell out of Western-based teams with a lot of name recognition, leading to them getting into the P5. Other than Utah and Rutgers, TCU was the biggest winner in conference realignment. The raise they got was gigantic. We won't do this, wardly, so don't worry. Overwhelmingly, our fanbase prefers the SBCUSA setup--its not even close. We prefer games in Louisiana because we can bring 100 people to those venues. We love being able to READ our game articles in the newspaper on Sunday mornings. Time zones are very hard for us because of the Big West Conference we were a part of 20+ years ago. Other than the Big West days and the early SBC days, when we had Western teams in the league, we have played in a regional (non Western) conference for almost 40 years with this crew of teams for more than one season: SFA, SHSU, SW Texas State, UTSA, NMSU, UTEP, Rice, Nicholls State, McNeese State, Northwestern State, UL-Monroe, UL-Lafayatte, La Tech, Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee, Western Kentucky, Marshall, UAB, Troy, South Alabama, USM, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Charlotte, and Old Dominion. Since this is what we have accepted, been forced to do, and preferred, its probably best that we recognize that playing in a conference with teams that have been good-to-great programs in the last 25 years (AFA, Wyoming, UNM, CSU, SDSU, Fresno, Utah State, Boise, Nevada, and Hawaii have all been ranked in that timeframe at some point) is too hard. The costs would be enormous to travel there, no doubt, and since we don't want to deal with those far-off venues, guys like me, who just believe that TCU gave schools like ours a blueprint, will just have to realize we are in the vast minority here--and make no mistake, we are in the vast minority. And, in a way to confirm that preference for the fanbase, it doesn't appear the MWC has even one iota of adding any CUSA teams anyway.

  2. Gilmore preserved his redshirt after appearing in only one game for the Wildcats last season. It was Gilmore who handed the ball to running back Tyler Markray for a 45-yard touchdown that broke UK’s single-game rushing record in its 50-7 win over Tennessee Martin. Tommy Mainord, UK’s wide receivers coach during Mark Stoops’ first three years in charge, is the associate head coach and co-offensive coordinator at North Texas. Alexandria native Luke Walerius, a former graduate and recruiting assistant under Stoops in 2016 and 2017, is chief of staff for the Mean Green. Former Frederick Douglass High School star Dayton LeBlanc is a sophomore defensive lineman at North Texas. read more: https://www.kentucky.com/sports/college/kentucky-sports/uk-football/article242730171.html Read more here: https://www.kentucky.com/sports/college/kentucky-sports/uk-football/article242730171.html#storylink=cpy Read more here: https://www.kentucky.com/sports/college/kentucky-sports/uk-football/article242730171.html#storylink=cpy

  4. “If he keeps progressing, he is special,” former Kentucky defensive back Van Hiles told Vaught’s Views in Kentucky. “He is left-handed and has a great arm. He is Terry Wilson almost. He has great straight line speed. He played in a spread offense on a really good team in high school that won the state championship his senior year.” He also had multiple 50+ yard TD runs in his highlights. In the state championship game his senior year he ran the ball 23 times against 17 pass attempts. Also, Rivals classified him as a dual threat.

  5. I can not fathom how people would rather play in a regional conference JUST so they can go to all of the games. It's more important to go to all the road games than it is to get in a better conference. That is flat out selfish. Hell, why don't we just go play 6A high school? Every game is within driving distance, with playoffs, and then all of the playoff games are driveable too!!!!! No wait, our fanbase wouldn't be able to get off work in time to drive up to Denton.

  7. Help me remember the other one. 2002 New Orleans Bowl The Heart of Dallas Bowl The Stand ??? Personally, I’d like to see Breelan Chancellor give a rundown of his best punt/kickoff returns and a tackling clinic from Kenny Buyers.

  10. Trice and Orr are great ambassadors for the NT program. I wondered how they could spread out the "stand" for all those recorded minutes, but they did a great job along with ever dependable Hank.

  14. Those considerations shouldn't be primary in decision making. First and foremost: What would put North Texas Athletics in the best position to succeed, both immediately, and long term? Do we have the funds to expand travel expenses? If yes, and it puts us in a better position, we would have to jump at the opportunity! If we don't, then we're pretenders anyway, and a "more regional" conference will just have to suffice. But in watching how the AD has changed over the past few years (especially after President Smatresk took over, and GBR's appointment to the BOR), I think NT has put itself in a position financially to take that hit temporarily in order to advance. This is very true. That's why NT has to continue to excel in C-USA to make ourselves more appealing. A 4-win football season is not going to help that appearance, and needs to be rectified immediately. MBB is doing just fine. Olympic sports are more than doing their part.

  15. The key word here is PLAY. He's not stocking a shelf, delivering food, working in an ER, etc. He PLAYS a kids game for a living. And even making half his salary, makes more than enough to give his family everything they want and still has more left over than a majority of Americans. I hope he doesn't play...

  16. I don’t understand how some can’t see that a country with 15% unemployment headed toward 25% and greater unemployment (if we don’t open up soon) is sacrificing everyone as well. Everyone will be impacted by the economic ruin of our country. No one is immune to that. There will be more health problems come out of the reaction to this virus than this virus itself. You can’t deny that.

  17. I really enjoy Hank doing this for the fans and players. Good job. And this rice game reminds me of two of the best defensive backs, and the best tacklers I have ever witnessed at UNT. Kenny Buyers and Larrimie(sp? Lee.

  18. I’ve not missed a single day of work since January 3rd. Seen my share of death and injury but none from Cov-19. Mostly car wrecks. It seems the less crowded the streets become the more severe the carnage.. Made a terrible one yesterday involving a teen that attends a local university.😔 I’m looking forward to retiring. Rick

  23. Bro can sit. What an ass. "Bro, I'm risking my life," Snell said. "What do you mean it should not be a thing? It should 100% be a thing. If I'm gonna play, I should be getting the money I signed to be getting paid. I should not be getting half of what I'm getting paid because the season's cut in half, on top of a 33% cut of the half that's already there -- so I'm really getting, like, 25%. "On top of that, it's getting taxed. So imagine how much I'm actually making to play, you know what I'm saying?"

  24. But why?! I get we won't be able to go to as many road games, and tailgates, but the chance to be in a better conference has to be more important.

  31. Removing dangerous or misleading content? Yes. But don’t worry there is still tons of content for you out there. Can’t delete all the 5g conspiracies, anti-vax, flat earth, and other complete nonsense on social media. They are focusing on this now because it is particularly dangerous. Just as so many are willing to sacrifice the elderly and compromised to reach herd immunity (bc without a vaccine that is how you get there since we still are not testing adequately), I would be willing to sacrifice those that refuse to follow scientific guidance - especially the protesters. Unfortunately viruses don’t discriminate that way or follow politics. Those that refuse lockdown definitely help with herd immunity but simultaneously raise the hospitalization and death rates. The irony of all this is how much of the division is fed by the very foreign actors (Russia and China) that so many claim to want to oppose. There is a reason that much of the anti-CDC and anti-Fauci content gets posted while Americans are asleep and Moscow is wide awake.

  32. Former Chair GBR and the Prez were behind it. I really like the internship/training angle for students - would have have jumped at a chance to participate while I was in school. There is also now some overlap with the sports management program they have been building out. It has made some great inroads over the past few years. I think this program will be among the top in the country shortly.
